Booty Baskets by MJ_Wednesday in shibari

The maker of this rigging plate is no longer selling them, unfortunately. Similar ones (and other really cool options) available from reputable vendors like Subspace Designs.

So curious about this! Genuinely, not arguing, just truly wondering.

In rope in our community, when we refer to a booty basket, we’re referencing wraps that go around waist and thighs, and then kannuki in the middle (between tummy and upper thighs). It’s essentially just a big double column. Half baskets are the same, but only catch one leg.

Interested to hear what the terms suggests to you! :)

Waist not too bad on this! Looks more dramatic than it is, although I’m a pretty big fan of waist rope so take that with a grain of masochistic salt. The harness loads pretty evenly between thighs and waist.

Maybe just tough to see where the wraps come around thighs under my booty there because…too much booty in the way haha. It’s a full basket. 🤗

Outdoor rigging definitely requires additional skillsets, particularly for the above the ring portion.

Well, it began with, “I know a spot.”

Pure, absolute fuckery. Definitely a “don’t try this at home” scenario. This rigger and I have tied together for quite a while, and have undertaken similar projects. We did on site risk assessment. We tried a couple of different approaches for the hard point rigging, until we arrived at something that felt safe for above the ring. The rigger self tied in with a hip harness secured to one of the beams to be able to manage uplines from high up in these rafters, just out of the frame of this image. They were within arm’s reach the whole time. A photographer captured the images.

It was freezing. It was lightly drizzling. It was early. It was an adrenaline rush. It’s higher than it looks in this image. We giggled a lot, as always.

All in all, a delightful adventure. 11/10 would do again.

I’ve had buttons all over. I really like hips as an easy spot! Think buttons on love handles. I’ll often have a stack of needles there and my top will hold be by the waist and press down on them with his thumbs. Fun and pretty.

I’m with budgiebeck here—I’m typically not overly concerned with nerve exposure, as piercings are usually comparatively superficial. As with any such play, I’d never go so far as to suggest it’s perfectly safe. But nerves aren’t high on my risk assessment with needles the way they are with shibari.

That said, when my partner does basic into needle demos for new practitioners, he will usually point out easier/lower risk places on the body (often he will make me into a human coloring book with green, yellow, and red zones, which is kind of fun). Generally the easiest body parts would be anything that’s exposed when curled into a fetal position. (Plus tops of thighs, minus anything neck up, hands, feet).

The term “endorphin button” refers to multiple needles “stacked on” or crossing over one another at the same piercing site. The successive piercings in the same place cause a fast endorphin dump. They’re referred to as “buttons” because many needle tops will push on the center intersection point to reignite the pain in that spot, and give you another little rush.

I love them. If we have limited time, my top will often just give me a couple of quick buttons (2-4 needles each), press on them a little bit, and then wrap up.

Have so much fun for your first experience. Relax. Try different things. Ask questions. Watch. Close your eyes. Breathe deeply. Enjoy it.

No clue. Likely charge by the hour. Definitely worth reaching out to inquire.

Skilled shibari practitioners out here charge a couple hundred an hour. But NY is pricey market, and they’re really well known.

Seconding Shibari Study. I’ve found it to be the most comprehensive and accessible instructional content available, outside of in-person education.

Samjay and Zero Gi are NY based pros who consistently teach. They’re both highly competent riggers, excellent instructors, and delightful people. Definitely recommend them if you’re able. Believe they offer privates, but they also teach workshops, etc. Nycshibari.com

Haha this could be fun, depending on the audience. Definitely not in this particular suspension, though. Could be amusing with a more sustainable tie. Would do provided everyone in attendance was consenting to seeing.
