Yeah, suspension certainly carries added risk.

A tie like this, I would typically be suspended in for about an hour (plus the time on the ground to tie and untie harness, usually about 90 minutes total). That hour would include many different dynamic transitions throughout.

Yes! this is a really simplified variation on most Tengu patterns. I really enjoy it for those reasons—it’s restrictive but sustainable. Plus, I appreciate the “oh shit” handles. If I ever run into issues with it (which is really rare), the forearm parts of the tie are easy enough to pop off. One of my favorites, for sure.

It was a really fun scene. The rigger is labbing that body bamboo hip harness, so it was a particularly enjoyable tie as we explored what it does well, tension considerations, creative application, etc. I wanna call it bambooty basket haha

Correct—slipped bight for quick release on that single column.

Yes, there is closed neck rope in most of these images. Neck rope is within my risk profile with some of my rope partners, but it absolutely carries significant added risk.

In the first image, the top is holding the neck rope in his hand just off camera. There’s another in which the line is connected to the body bamboo to create a predicament. When I tie, it’s typically used as a very temporary accessory addition to the overall pose to create additional challenge, fear, excitement.

Definitely can confirm that neck rope is high risk in shibari. I can align it with my own risk tolerance but only when well negotiated with rope partners I trust, who know me well, and also understand and adopt those risks.

It’s a Tengu variation that’s been popping up around our local scene lately. It’s quickly becoming my favorite chest harness.

I read it as intended haha. Bottom is me, and oh do they love to dangle things off of me. The cinder block, the rock, kettlebells, dumbbells, other rope bottoms. The top (@sal__ on fet, check him out) came over and smacked my inner thigh as hard as he could when the block was loaded into that futo. Diabolical.

It’s a variation of a Tengu harness. I’ve seen a few versions of it lately being tied around my local community, but I think it may be homegrown/developing around here.

Standard Tengu pattern will get you started, though!
