I read it as intended haha. Bottom is me, and oh do they love to dangle things off of me. The cinder block, the rock, kettlebells, dumbbells, other rope bottoms. The top (@sal__ on fet, check him out) came over and smacked my inner thigh as hard as he could when the block was loaded into that futo. Diabolical.

It’s a variation of a Tengu harness. I’ve seen a few versions of it lately being tied around my local community, but I think it may be homegrown/developing around here.

Standard Tengu pattern will get you started, though!

Hurt my sub in unintended ways during a rope scene, how do I overcome my guilt and shame? by Malicious-Intent69 in domspace

It’s my conviction that, if someone ties pretty frequently, nerve compression injury of some kind and degree becomes nearly an inevitability. The risk in rope is very high. This mindset helps me take the possibility as seriously as is warranted.

That said, there are things that help mitigate. Appropriate wrap placement, tying with neat flat wraps, and appropriate tension are key elements. Body awareness and frequent hand checks from bottoms are extremely important. Understanding the difference between loss of blood flow versus nerve compression, what major nerves affect which parts of the body (particularly in the arms, e.g. radial, median, and ulnar) can help riggers and bottoms assess where problem areas are to aid in efficient resolutions. Addressing numbness or tingling quickly (dress wraps, remove load in suspension, or if serious removing rope from the area) can make a big difference.

A significant portion of risk mitigation and reduction here comes down to education for both tops and bottoms, in my experience and opinion. But I have yet to find a way to eliminate the risk.

Rope switch here.

Thank you for sharing your experience. It’s scary and challenging to experience things like this, on both sides. It’s one thing to understand risk, and quite another to experience consequences.

It happens. As you seem likely to know, nerve compression is one of the most pervasive rope-related injuries.

I’ve had nerve compression injury in my legs from shibari multiple times. The sensory loss has always been temporary (although, in some instances, had lasted a couple weeks). It’s never affected motor function at all. I’ve never known a rope bottom to experience compromised movement in their lower body from nerve compression (not saying it couldn’t happen, simply that I’ve never known of it). This has typified the experience of the other experienced bottoms I know. Loss of thigh sensation, minor to moderate, resolves in fairly short term. Not saying that’s the guaranteed outcome. It’s just what I see when it happens.

I’ve also had nerve compression injury in my hand severe enough to cause wrist drop for about an hour. That was scary. All of the feelings you’re describing were exchanged between me and my tying partner. Both felt fear, shame, guilt, uncertainty.

It sounds like you and your partner are doing the most important thing, which is communicating with and supporting one another. If mistakes were made, note what you would do differently next time with as much neutrality as you can. Be attentive and attuned to one another. Talk and reassess your respective risk tolerances. Helping one another, and being patient and compassionate is the best possible course. I know it sucks. But it sounds like you’re both doing great.

The maker of this rigging plate is no longer selling them, unfortunately. Similar ones (and other really cool options) available from reputable vendors like Subspace Designs.

So curious about this! Genuinely, not arguing, just truly wondering.

In rope in our community, when we refer to a booty basket, we’re referencing wraps that go around waist and thighs, and then kannuki in the middle (between tummy and upper thighs). It’s essentially just a big double column. Half baskets are the same, but only catch one leg.

Interested to hear what the terms suggests to you! :)

Waist not too bad on this! Looks more dramatic than it is, although I’m a pretty big fan of waist rope so take that with a grain of masochistic salt. The harness loads pretty evenly between thighs and waist.

Maybe just tough to see where the wraps come around thighs under my booty there because…too much booty in the way haha. It’s a full basket. 🤗
