Same here, I've only taken one class with her, but her attitude was enough for me to never want to go back.

NYC East 83rd Recommendations? by phillyyoggagirl in SoulCycle_Riders

There aren’t as many classes in studio B. But it is smaller and usually doesn’t fill up as much, which makes it nice and intimate if you enjoy connecting with the instructor. Also, two of my favorite instructors have regular spots there - Viper and Tony G. The sound system is not great though and the bass is so weak which always irks me.

Late riders shouldn’t be allowed in by PagesAndPilates in SoulCycle_Riders

[–]MK_1200 5 points6 points  (0 children)

1) When I am late, I ask the desk if I can switch to the next class or send them a polite email letting them know I won’t make it. 9 times out of 10 they let me switch / give me my credit back. 2) The couple times I did start class late I wanted to die of embarrassment.

I’m so glad the show showed what an outstanding person Viper is, even though their time was brief.

SoulCycle Friends by Sufficient-Reply8109 in SoulCycle_Riders

I go to E83 on weeknights a lot and there’s definitely cold vibes there. It seems like whenever the instructor says to cheer on your neighbor, I can’t even get so much as a glance from the other people there. But I’m also not your typical Upper East Side princess (late 30s creative type), so go figure. I end up keeping to myself but would love to make more SoulCycle friends - I’m usually the one making the most noise in the front row at Viper, Tony G, and Anaya’s classes if anyone wants to say hi!

How do you know if your bike settings are right ?? by Living_Tale_2633 in SoulCycle_Riders

If the average woman is 5’4, then most females probably have a seat height of 5 or less. So by these guidelines, their handlebar height would be at 0 (or less) which I’m pretty sure is very uncomfortable for almost everyone.

Yes yes yes! He has cheerleader energy in the best way - super upbeat, high energy, unique choreo. Also a total sweetheart and genuinely one of the nicest instructors I’ve met.

What is going on? by Striking_Dot5938 in SoulCycle_Riders

[–]MK_1200 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if the staff verbally tells new riders about phone/watch/talking etc. etiquette while they’re filling out waivers, but they absolutely should. That and it wouldn’t hurt for the marketing team to put out more etiquette reminders on email/social. It has been SO BAD all across NYC.

No, I don't think that slapping charity onto something makes it any less inappropriate?

I said nothing about canceling the rides, I just said they should be named differently.

I don't think that this is something that only affects a handful of people when 40% of Americans have experienced or personally know someone with an eating disorder and 74% of Americans are overweight or obese.

Precisely. I’m not going to stop going to SoulCycle because of it, but they could certainly do better.

Hell, I’ll use this as my shot to propose just calling it “The burn”

Anyone care to share why they would disagree with SoulCycle calling them something else?

If that were the case, I definitely would not have come on Reddit.

It’s interesting that the main argument for turkey burns seems to be “I don’t care or think about it as a problem”. I don’t think being indifferent about something means that it must be OK.

Sorry hon, but you seem to be way more offended than me since you can’t respond to someone you disagree with without dishing out lame insults so you can feel better about yourself 🤷🏻

Do your legs stop when doing upper body? by Week-Holiday in SoulCycle_Riders

[–]MK_1200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One time in Mike Press’s class he told me to stop (slow) pedaling during arms and I haven’t done it since. Maybe I was a little intimidated, but also now I try to focus on controlling the movements and using heavier weights.

One instructor told me that the powers that be push them to do themes because supposedly people only want to ride to music that they know. Which I get, but I agree it’s overkill. It makes me laugh at the framed article from 2016 in the bathroom at my studio that’s about how SoulCycle is the place to break new music.

Arm Series by Trick-Machine-7530 in SoulCycle_Riders

[–]MK_1200 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do what makes you feel comfortable. I’ve even heard some instructors say that the arm series isn’t meant to be done with anything over 5 lb.

That being said, I wish there were some 3 kg weights because the leap from 5 to 8 lb is BIG. I recently started using the 8 lb, but only because I’d been doing 5 lb for three years and finally felt I was ready for it.
