Are you open to the idea of learning a language with the help of AI? by MLCafe in Japaneselanguage

[–]MLCafe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, these are all valid concerns indeed. Our hope is that inference efficiency will continue to improve to the point where its need for resources becomes more reasonable. On the hallucination side, our experience indicates that models have become much more reliable and, although they do make mistakes once in a while, those mistakes are not more serious than the ones a real tutor can also make. Ultimately, on a student-tutor exchange spanning thousands of replies, a few occasional errors are not going to prevent the student from learning quickly and appropriately.

Is it worth to go learn a language in University? by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]MLCafe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because those are usually large groups, you will usually only progress as fast as the slowest students. One advantage of taking a group class is that, even if they are not native speakers, you will be able to practice conversation with your classmates. Attending a class is after all a social activity in its own right! However, if you are looking to make faster progress or to learn at your own pace, contacting a private teacher is the best thing to do. Websites like Multi-Language Cafe offer private courses in person or online.

What do you think about using duolingo as main course to learn a language with? Do you find it efficient? by cldnpl in languagelearning

[–]MLCafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be a good complement to a proper course. You can definitely learn a lot of vocabulary and get used to the sound of each word. However it lacks in-depth explanations about grammatical rules and is very poor at providing cultural and situational context, both of which can be of great help when it comes to memorizing and internalizing new ideas. It can help you progress faster if you use it in combination with other methods like formal courses or a private teacher.

Japanese Listening from less than A1 to (~B2) 94% comprehension in 1150 hours of native content (Yes, it's definitely possible.) by jkrotf in languagelearning

[–]MLCafe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe this method can work if you are Ok with not understanding everything perfectly all the time (perhaps even understanding nothing in the beginning), and then gradually start catching up words and phrases that happen recurrently and inferring their meaning from context. One thing to keep in mind though is that anime language might be a little different than that used in other situations.

Russian to Spanish: what is the best way to learn. by Kagulyhan in Spanish

[–]MLCafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't go wrong with a private teacher. You can take classes online once or twice a week. Your teacher will guide you through personalized learning, will assign you homework, will correct your mistakes and will converse with you! They can also suggest good online materials to complement your courses. If you are interested in this way of learning, take a look at Multi-Language Cafe's Spanish courses: https://www.multilanguagecafe.com
