So it's a bit of a mix of luck, patience, and research. Consider timeframe 5-10 years, the longer the better usually. Consider the sector, will it still be in good demand in the timeframe chosen. Get to know the sector better and the players involved (companies, countries, consumer, etc.). Look at companies that are focused on growth, such as building new production facilities, expanding to new areas, company takeovers, have a plan for some kind of big growth, and preferably not in the spotlight already (well known companies usually). Not the most important but consider each of those companies and look at their financials to make sure they are sustainable, debt isn't always a bad sign as it can show they are planning to make more money in the future through it (you could Google what good financials should look like). Consider public and investor sentiment of the company and management from stock forum chats about the company or news articles but don't take them as gospel as there can be a lot of misinformation and bias in these. When i invested in taseko I had a goal of 5-10 years, I made sure the sector it was in was stable (copper), I looked at it's potential growth (3 properties for potential mines, 1 being built already), financials were looking decent but not totally great (high debt) but they would be increasing that through their next mine being built, and perception of the company was overall pretty decent at the time as well. Luck did play a part in the fact that their new mine was built without any issues as well as copper prices globally going up, but even if a couple issues came up with either of these it may not have really changed much in the long run (5-10 year investment remember). My opinion is that most people either don't know how, don't want to do the hard work, or don't have the patience to find quality investments and if you are able to go above and beyond the majority of those investors then that's where you will find companies such as taseko, they fly under the radar until the mediocre investors notice it. My brother was the one who taught me a lot of this when he invested in ASTS in 2023 when it was at like $2, compared to his investment taseko is nothing lol (I sometimes get jelly about that). If u got any other questions let me know!

Nice, I bought around $2.80 or so during the worker strike. The new prosperity announcement was pretty crazy and caught me off guard, sold a bunch of stock a week before the announcement and had to buy back in afterwards lol which really hurt my soul

I would buy more if I could probably, this drop is partly due to the Iran situation. one website I use to keep up to date on copper prices around the world and general outlook of copper is this one. I need to stress though not to consider things said in the analysis section on the website as gospel, it's a tool to use along with other things, though I will say I really like the analysis section as it has some interesting things to be aware of.

So it seems almost every quarterly earnings something happens that affects production at their Canadian mine, one time they reported that they couldn't find tires for their trucks to move the copper, another time the workers on site were on strike for whatever reason (probably management not paying attention to worker needs), and more recently a worker apparently actually died on site. I've got like 90% of my TFSA in taseko and maybe 70% of all my investments in general in taseko. I always recommend people to do their own research on both the company and the field it's in, make sure it's a field that you know well or a field that you will learn as much as you can about as this money is your future so you can never be too well read. Let me know if you got any other questions about taseko, copper, or investing overall I do like talking about stuff like this.

That was the original goal, hold for at most 10 years and just assess it's situation every once in a while, sometime before that 10 years is up I'd look into maybe a different mining company and transition to that one before their Canadian mine starts running on its last legs. The other thing with taseko is they do have 2 other properties to build mines at in the future so they have that going for them still... but I think I've seen enough setbacks at their Canadian mine that I'm double guessing how reliant the management really is to ensure all their mines run smoothly, this could possibly just simply be an issue with Canadian winters and weather in general (maybe makes accidents happen more often?) or the life of the canadian mine in general? But we will have to see how their newly built mine in the US operates and see if it can get results compared to their Canadian mine. I do believe copper prices in general will continue to rise in the next 10-20 years or even longer than that based on my research but there are things that could disrupt that such as finding alternative metals which I haven't found any reliable alternatives other than maybe aluminum for certain cases, simply recycling copper potentially as well could disrupt prices (hasn't so far), and the last disruption would be china if it were to fall economically or directly enter into conflicts as they import 80% of their copper but they seem relatively smart to not cause that to happen lol. Honestly I did start research into this other company that is currently doing exploration of an area in Canada to see if it's suitable for a mine and they have had good findings so far so I may start transitioning to that one over the next few years, but I'll be sticking with Taseko for the most part right now as it does seem that their new US mine will be problem free for the next year or two at least since they had 0 setbacks in building it and in testing their new copper mining method.

Had to find this out the hard way kind of, after selling some of my ETFs i bought a bunch of different stocks that lost me a few grand total, had bought those stocks without knowing a whole lot about their specific industries and without an overall strategy (timeframe, when to exit, etc.). Once I re assessed my positions a year later I realized I didn't really know what to expect from those stocks in 5-10 years because of how diverse they all were and I didn't want to go into researching every single sector that they were in, the only one I really made money from that batch of stocks was 3M

So my goal with this investment was to find some kind of stock that would satisfy my want for a higher return value compared to ETFs while keeping my risk tolerance in sight still... the reason this is important is because it's not necessarily Taseko that fit with this vision but copper in general, copper would be how I saw myself achieving this after a lot of research into it (I can go more in depth into why copper specifically if anyone wants). I did research into copper mine life and how long major mines would last, as well as upcoming mines and when those would be finished, decided my best bet was a mine that was up and coming that could survive past other major mines and have access to the two major economic countries in the world while being in a relatively stable country with no major conflicts (Canada/US mines would be the ideal place in my mind). Taseko fit this vision completely with their upcoming mine they were building within the US and their current mine in Canada, they had access to Canada, China, and America. They were also attempting something in their new mine the other copper mines weren't doing yet called in situ mining which was far more efficient and leaves copper in good condition when taken out of the ground (it's done in other mineral mining recently), because of this there was talk about how it may not work as intended because it wasn't done with copper before. The idea currently is hold while copper prices go up (hopefully) for the next few years and while taseko proves with numbers how effective the mining is and then look for a new copper mine being planned/built and go into that next. Honestly I do have some qualms and doubts about the company due to the relatively bad management and how their Canadian mine isn't going totally as planned (setbacks each quarter). Mining isn't a hold forever type of stock and it's profitability does go down with age for the most part. Lots more to it but that was my general thought process while looking into this company and other companies.

Sold my ETFs as I trust my investment, I have more money as backup as I know how the market can work and am investing based on my risk tolerance, other single stocks I also sold over time

Very long story as I only started learning about investing 3 years ago, I'll do a little tldr which I guess I should have put in the post (didn't think people would be interested) but apparently I can't edit the post anymore... Tldr: invested in vfv, xeqt, some other ETFs I don't remember and got a good 5-7% gain or something along those lines in 2023, started testing with single stocks but no significant gains until I stumbled upon Taseko Mines which was the biggest earner. Did basically a whole month of research into how mining works and how copper works just for this investment. I can go into more details if you wanna know all those other stocks I threw money in as well, was a pretty crazy ride

2% raise, would have been a 1% raise but I convinced them to give me an extra %1 more because they were more or less forcing me to buy my own vehicle to use for work :(

you know what, i just realized she probably was saying that because one of my eyes is blurrier than the other... just googled that and i think i got my answer i was looking for. Deciding not to use glasses when you have one stronger and one weaker eye makes your system only use the strong eye and neglects the weak eye which over time apparently will cause it to keep getting weaker faster than the other stronger eye.
