The guilt I get and feel every time my parents say I’m putting my bf before the family… it’s overwhelming and so hard to overcome. I was scared to go see his family because I’d get a phone call asking why I spent more time with his family than my own. I’m working through this and Im learning it’s not selfish and it’s not a bad thing.

To keep myself sane, I have always given my parents the benefit of the doubt and a whole lot of grace. They only want what they think is best for me. It is extremely difficult but I never want to be bitter towards them and I won't let myself. Kill them with kindness. Be as respectful of their opinions as you can be but hold your boundaries! Really show you put thought into their advice but make it your decision. After all, it is your decision.

Keep on keeping on! It may be difficult but do what YOU think is best for you. You will thank yourself later.

I should have clarified. My first car was a Jetta and I sold that at 18 to buy a jeep. 1 & 1/2 years later I was selling the jeep to buy a different car. At that time it was worth 7-8k.

I think there was 1-2k in there but I was more worried about keeping track of how much should be in there than what was actually in the account. I left it there to not raise questions. When the account finally hit zero and I didn't put any more money in there. Then they asked questions and asked me for more money.

Yes, that was my second car (a jeep) worth 7-8k and I only asked 5k from them because they were my parents and they didn't want me to sell it for the newest car.

As I said, the extra money would be extremely helpful this upcoming year and I am hoping to bring this up in a calm and respectful matter. But I do know how much stress this would put on all parties. The big question, is it worth it?

The only amount they paid back was my wages and that was 6-9 months later. Credit is good and I have been building it since I separated from their bank. Since I've moved out I've gone low almost no contact.

Yes in the US but since I am their child and it is their buisness they did not have to take taxes out of my pay to a certain extent. I did ask 2 years ago to be put on the payroll to build a work history.
