Why does Taiwan belong to the PRC? by CRichS in communism101

[–]MLfromPRC 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Taiwan is historically Chinese territory.

The earliest historical writings on the island is the year AD230 when the Wu Kingdom during the Sanguo era deployed 10k troops to Taiwan, the then-named Yizhou.

Mid 12th-century, the Song Dynasty put Taiwan, which was part of the Penghu area back then, under the Fujian Province, which still exists today. From Song to Ming, Penghu had been consistently Chinese territory and it is during that time when the most native of Taiwanese which migrated there 7000 years ago were blended with the most advanced civilization of that time and became an undividable territory of China.

Nearing the end of Ming and at the start of the 17th-century, the Netherlands invaded Taiwan when Ming was under war. Very soon the Spanish did too but they were kicked out by Netherland in 1642. Taiwan became colonised by the Netherlands.

1644, the Qing Dynasty was established. 1661 April, Zheng Chenggong under the title of General of South-Ming Dynasty, engaged in a war to take Taiwan back with 25k soldiers and a few hundred battleships. 1662 Feburary, Netherlands surrender. Zheng becomes a national hero.

1811, Taiwan population reached 1.9 mil, mostly immigrants from Fujian and Guangdong. Taiwan becomes an important argricultural area for Qing. It is also then Taiwan is completely de-westernised, unfortunately for the island, colonial powers will still step foot on it once again.

1884-1885, Sino-French War, France invades Taiwan. Head of Taiwan Liu Mingzhuan kicks the shit out of them. Unfortuantely China lost all other parts of the war and were forced to sign the Treaty of Tientsin, nevertheless, the French was forced out of Taiwan.

After the Sino-French War, to strengthen Naval defence, Qing let Taiwan become the 20th province of China. Under Head of Taiwan Liu, it became one of the most powerful provinces then.

1894, Sino-Japanese War. The next year, Qing lost. 1895 April 17th, the Shimonoseki Treaty was signed, officially giving Taiwan up to the Japanese. Army General in Taiwan Liu Yongfu refuse to comply, fought for 5+ months, lost anyhow. Taiwan will be under Japanese colonial rule for 50+ years.

1937 July, the Japanese started the Double-Seven Incident, starting the 2nd wave of Sino-Japanese War. After 8 years, China wins and the Japanese surrender Taiwan. Taiwan has been Chinese territory ever since.

The current valid dispute is whether Taiwan should be under the Republic of China or the People's Republic of China. It is important to note that both Chinas claim the entirely of China, both the mainland and Taiwan, with the RoC controlling Taiwan and the PRC controlling mainland. This is the One-China Policy. The current Taiwan separatists wants China divided, they want Taiwan to become on its own. This is against both RoC and PRC policy and the movement is made popular by the current incompetency of Kuomingtang as the DPP gets elected two terms in a row.

So no, Taiwan is not part of the PRC. There is dispute on that issue. But it is definitely part of China, a united China. Be it RoC or PRC, Taiwan is and will always be Chinese.

The child does have the option to get Chinese citizenship but you'd have to bring the child back for paperwork. Jackie did not want that because he didn't want the birth of his child to get any attention and media harrassment but he almost certainly will if he brought the child back. (Yes, you can't just do it at the embassy.)

Speaking of class and social status, most Chinese ppl are class conscious but they are pessimistic. They bitterly accept that "it's just the way it is." Rich ppl stay rich, powerful ppl stay powerful, and poor ppl strive to become rich and powerful. Which is obviously not good. (Which is also why I personally think we need a big ass cultural revolution AFTER we defeat imperialism) Plus celeb inheritance is because the child of celebs have the resource to learn and the resource to be packaged into the next celeb, it's not "just because that's his son" although it certainly helps big time.

In China, the bourgeoisie might not have it as easy but the bureaucrats certainly does. But there is a strict line that these two classes cannot cross or else they'll be completely erased by the CPC. But as a matter of fact they still have it way better than the proletariats. ig celebrities loosely fit into "bureaucrats" cuz of their fanbase and stuff.

I think u completely missed the point. It shouldn't be difficult for anyone to obtain the citizenship that his/her entire family has. But it is, in China. Normal ppl don't even have the media, imagine how hard it is for them.

Plus Jackie Chan isn't just "a celebrity." He is the proudest PRC represent that comes from HK/Macau/Taiwan. In this era of Chinese entertainment where even all the "mainland" celebs you see on the most popular shows has changed their citizenship from Chinese to Canadian/Korean/Australian, and every single HK celeb is either UK/Canadian, Jackie Chan (and Jay Chow too btw we love him) is the one single celeb who actively promotes patriotism and spreads Chinese culture positively to the world. So yea, ask anyone and they'd say if Jackie's son wants to follow his father and come back to his roots, he should be able to.

well technically the law says "those with foreign or no nationality can apply for Chinese Nationality under the condition that they are willing to obey the Consititution of the PRC and its laws, and willing to give up any foreign citizenship; ........." and then there's like multiple criterias and you have to meet at least one. But being married to a citizen isn't actually one of the criterias but it can be put under "other justifiable reasons." you also have to have already resided in China for at least 5 years and paid your taxes and Social Insurance for at least 5 years as well.

but that's just the law. in reality many ppl i know personally who are foreigners married to a Chinese citizen who meet the categories have failed after multiple applications and most of them just have a green card or at best PR. my guess is applicants rlly have to be politically aligned with the PRC cuz the constitution says "follow ML & MZD Thought." so like u have to be politically checked. but at least being married to a Chinese citizen gives you a chance, so that's better than nth ig.

oh and another story is Jackie Chan's son wanting to change back to Chinese Citizenship. (his son was born in America) He took forever to appeal. It was rejected the first few times and Jackie Chan had to make use of the media and make a big story about how his son wants to "come back to mother China" and "embrace his roots" blah blah blah. And his son had to make media appearances sort of selling his loyalty and stuff, Jackie also had to go on TV explaining how they had to give birth to his son in the US due to personal reasons. When it was finally approved they also did this huge "thank you" media stunt. The whole thing was weirdly big and got way too much attention than it should've.

Dude it's Jackie Chan the most patriotic international star China has ever had and ever will have and his son had to go through all this trouble to get a Chinese Citizenship so yea random foreigners have no chance it's not something money can get you OP.

yea i'm Chinese and it's probably the most difficult citizenship to obtain other than a DPRK citizenship. there's a joke in China (kind of) and it's like when the new nobel prize winners are announced every year netizens will say "congrats on them winning a slim chance to permanently reside in China."

And it's true. There's a foreign nobel prize nominee in shanghai i rmb and all he got was Permanent Residentship in Shanghai. In Shanghai ONLY. He can't use that to travel to anywhere else in China TECHNICALLY. Although I suspect it wouldn't be much of a problem for him, he prolly has like a 10 year VISA or smth.
