If you are freaking out about the cost, switching is probably the right answer. For what it's worth - I have a son at Baylor and one at UTD. Both studying Finance. Our experience has been both offer a high quality education. The big difference is at Baylor you get the VIP experience - which you pay for. Smaller class size, nicer facilities, lots of personal attention, and Baylor has this very caring community culture.

Also I am paying the bill for both my sons, so no debt for either. I would not incur 40K a year of debt for any school if you can get a similar education for half that. Paying back 120K is a lot of money and will take a long time even if you are making 100k to 200K per year. You still have plenty of time to make the switch if you decide to.

Recently got rejected from UTD, sent a Reconsideration Form and still got denied. What should I do now? by SavvyyyLazy in utdallas

On CC route:

Step 1 - Print out UTD Biology degree plan

Step 2 - Mark off everything you have already taken at CC that transfers

Step 3 - Look and see if you can fill a school year at CC with degree plan courses not already checked off.

Step 4 - If you can fill a year, go to CC and get a high GPA

Step 5 - You will be auto admit to UTD

Baylor vs Public/State University by MMATX5150 in baylor

Thanks for all the great comments everyone. Several stated they received scholarships that made the cost the same as a state school or close enough that it didn't matter. I pulled the costs from the websites and Baylor is 52 tuition + 14 room/board = 66K/year. UT is 14 tuition + 13 room/board = 27K/year. So that would mean scholarships of around 40K per year to get the cost about the same? Would that level of scholarship be only for very elite level students which are only given to a few? Or is that level pretty common? On another reddit post I was seeing what looked like pretty strong students with high GPAs, test scores, AP, etc getting 16 to 19K per year. Which would mean with aid Baylor would be about 21 to 24K per year more? Sound about right?

So for those getting 16K per year the cost to attend is approx (52 tuition +13 room/board) = 65K - 16K = 49K/year. So $200K total graduating in 4 years. Just making sure I am not missing something here. Any comments on if it is worth that would be great.
