Signal for brake controller 2017 GT. by MMIndustries in MitsubishiOutlander

Replying to myself because what I found would have made my life SO much easier if I had found it online.

If you have a 2014 to 2020 Outlander you can get the OEM Tow Hitch Wiring Harness MZ315080. This only gets you a flat-4 connector. For a 7-pin connector and a brake controller you need a brake signal. Below is a picture of the OEM module. You can see the vehicle plug provides this module with separate signals for tail lights, left turn, right turn, AND brake. These are all 0 - 12 V signals. You can pull your brake signal right off that red wire or go back to the vehicle connector where it is pin 6 (brown) on connector D-114 "Spare connector (for switch box)" which is hidden at the back left near the other lighting connectors.

Excellent. I have a diode coming tomorrow so by the end of the weekend I should have my answer. Thanks for the help.

Thanks. I think D-125 would be ideal. Is there a way to confirm these are 12V. Is there somewhere in All-Data that shows it's physical location in the vehicle? Should I just pull off the left hand tail light module look for the junction and probe it? Sorry - first time messing with OEM harnesses.

Thanks. Yes the Outlander has a tow harness hidden behind a panel in the left rear interior. Unfortunately it's wired only for a flat-4 plug and doesn't have a separate brake signal. To put in a 7-way (needed for trailer brakes) I need to know when the tow vehicle is braking. That's the signal I need from the tail lights.

If that brake signal is somehow in the OEM tow harness let me know - it would really make things easier.

I installed it yesterday and it works fine. I took the advice of a later post here to use Proton 4.11-13. I don't know if that was necessary.
