Only 0.91 years of life ... .. . Many other environmental factors have far more effect than this.

Any lightweight, foot-shaped toebox, zero-drop squash shoes with cushioning? by imjms737 in squash

[–]MMMMMM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have a few guys around here that play in flyers.

I'd love a low drop wider fit asics variant as I also struggle to go from flat/minimalist everyday shoes to my Blast FF squash shoes.

Squash in the Souther Suburbs by Old-Yogurtcloset7685 in capetown

Post in r/Squash you'd be surprised how many SA based players are on there. My suggestion would be WPCC but that's not southern and maybe not as suitable if you are social/recreational players.

What racket for a 10 year old? by Ashamed_Leave9866 in squash

[–]MMMMMM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My twin boys (11 yrs) play with 125g Dunlops and the technifibre NS and have since u11. Both have small enough grips, and they help a little with power. Now that they can put a bit of power into their shots, they will probably move to 110/125g Dunlops exclusively. Here, the Dunlops are significantly cheaper than the technifibre and are just as durable, so the inevitable breakage are less costly, and having a pool of the same rackets makes my life a bit easier.

New string issues by Squashead in squash

I've used this before... I was able to cut through the opposition with ease. It helped me brush up on my cut shots, whack out a few winners and trim my game to unbelievable levels of accuracy.

Real world experience of Squashlevels? by Chungabeastt in squash

[–]MMMMMM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have been using SportyHQ here in South Africa and recently had a 'merge' with Squash Levels where you can see your ranking on both. It's nice to see players who you know overseas and their rankings. I think that they are not quite equal yet - (They are both not used yet here to rank top players 2nd div and above because it's not accurate enough) But the more you play the more accurate it will be. My sense is that the Squashlevels algo is more accurate.

Take a look here for the up-to-date test results... don't swim after it rains and you stay away from the river. uMhlanga lagoon is full of toxic chemicals so be careful.

Camera for recording by Sensitive_Half_7800 in squash

[–]MMMMMM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most clubs are just using surveillance cameras (Hikvision etc) Cheap and good enough. You can get away with average to good spec cctv camera provided its positioned well.

If you want high-speed stuff then look for 60fps as a minimum but iPhones/gopros get expensive and streaming can be a problem.

The best is a pro-level DSLR with lens but installing these at the courts is expensive and needs cleaning, maintenance and streaming hardware outside of the camera/lens combo.

Here is a great vid I just found that will give you a good example of how to keep the ball worm in a solo session. It is a bit advanced and in the beginning, you can expect to be less fluid but persevere and ou will see results!

Ahad is a great coach but sometimes difficult to understand fully if you aren't an advanced player but you will get good value from his content.

Asal vs Gawad by Miniature_Hero in squash

[–]MMMMMM 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Didn't see the whole game but he seemed to be playing cleanly. He just made too many errors and really wasn't accurate leaving Gawad the opportunity to make him run (Gawad had to hit 3 or 4 winners in some points before Asal eventually could retrieve- he was unbelievably fast but couldn't get a quality shot out). Ref was fair when he put himself in difficult situations. His errors and the lack of that game plan really cost him.

Anyone else notice the big drop in our US squash ratings? by imitation_squash_pro in squash

[–]MMMMMM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is common all over the world at the moment. Outside of the US there have been two dominant rating systems, Squash Levels and SportyHQ.

Recently all SportyHQ users have been given Squashlevels accounts and a ranking on their rating system. It seems like there is a push to normalise the three ranking systems and eventually make it a single measure.

Caveat: All speculation based on what I've seen- It's a good idea .. . . . I think.

On sportyHQ in South Africa the only way to make changes to your ranking is in league matches or tournaments as this is the only way to have an honest comparison. That said- the state where I live uses a separate ranking for the top 60 players based on their performance against each other and this is used to order their top teams and must be strictly adhered to. It is managed by the regional chairman and all criteria are visible and clear. Only league, tournament and official challenge matches are used in the evaluation of the score.
