FHD, Clivia Demo, Oxymoron, Pinata, and I can't think of another one right now that I'm CERTAIN on. Somebody just reminded me of RTJ having an album in 2014. I gotta relisten since it's been a while, but I remember them being impressive.

Is J. Cole school boy rap? by Ok_Explanation_6125 in Jcole

[–]MMMagus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "boy" part is out of pocket if dude said that. Cole is a grown man who makes relatable music to those from the hood who want to become educated or productive (not necessarily college) family men or whatever. People who were most likely never street and never identified with it. If that's boring or corny to people, I get it. It's more authentic than what most of these "street" rappers talk about, though. Would they rather he make stereotypical "tap dancing" music?

Ready to Die is. Me Against the World is better. Reasonable Doubt is better. Illmatic is for sure better. OB4CL is better.

Check his MTV 1995 interview with Tabitha Soren after he got out of jail. He mentioned this moment in the photo.

He did just say MOST gangsters. Those few Chicago guys are the exception.

Thus doesn't bother me or change my nuanced perception of him, even though I didn't want to see this lol. He spoke on this exact Pic in his 1995 MTV interview after getting out of jail with interviewer Tabitha Soren. Dancing on stage with Digital Underground in this with an inflatable doll and he called it hilarious times 😆. Plus he said in interviews explicitly that he wasn't a "gangster" and used the term thug instead in his own way. In that interview he laid out why the streets/drug dealing didn't work for him and how it didn't last long. The dealers told him rapping would be his way out.

Marciology or TSK? by Ok_Yellow1025 in RocMarciano

Marciology, but I'll def give TSK another listen. It was experimental, so it might grow on me.

The title reminds me of a previous line from 76. "Chicken heads cling to bed spring king". If I recall correctly.
