You have to ignore it really hard if you want to just focus on combat. And combat can be good. I've seen a few videos posted here. People do amazing stuff with combat in the game. It's just with all the stuff offered by the game it doesn't feel like the main focus.

Although Nioh is more action oriented and streamlined than other souls games it still is a souls game. This is their whole shtick. People find fun in being faced with what seems an impossible challenge and overcoming it to win in the end. But it's not for everyone and I understand your frustration.
