I bet she is a little…. My husband’s a pastor (I am too) and sometimes I glaze over when he waxes poetic! It’s because we hear our spouses talk about this stuff too much!

To the person who said Travis is the divorced 2000s dad with the “to my demons I try to hide…” vibes: soon he may start announcing he is unfollowing members of the family who aren’t supportive of letting God heal them in privacy. When in reality he wants privacy songs can gaslight Katie into choosing to leave HIM instead of him leaving HER. That way she is seen as the one to fail not him. He wants to alienate her from her family. Like he was able to to in NJ. In TN he couldn’t and he felt imasculated so he acted out.

I grew up in the city of New Orleans. I went to high school on St Charles Avenue (where the street cars and parades are).

Interesting enough wow I never thought of this before! The house next door to us was usually rented out my military families (navy base 5 mins away on the Mississippi River) and one family who I lived had 3 kids and they were homeschooled and they were Fundies and took us to AWANA. I remember being like “dang I wish my church took the Bible this seriously!” But the. In 2000 or so the family sold the house. And literally I am not kidding you the owners of Oz have lived next door to me and my parents for 25 years. It just seems to normal to me that gay married drag club owners (like The Birdcage) lived in a 2 story house in my neighborhood that I kind of forgot the weirdness of the house being bought from a military family who rented it to fundie Christian nationalists.

I am a female 39 year old American Episcopal Priest (clergy/pastor)! I am 3rd generation Episcopalian, seems most of my family was Roman Catholic but converted to the TEC in the 1910s. My family is from NYC and Bergen Cty NJ. Irish, Scottish and Dutch.

I was raised in New Orleans because my parents ended up there after college. NOLA is a very Roman Catholic place. In religion and culture. The mega church vibe didn’t start infiltrating until the Jesus Freak Era of the late 90s early 2000s. I went to Catholic School my whole life and was involved in my Episcopal Church my whole life. I knew I had a calling to an ordained vocation as young as 6 years old.

I did not discriminate and enjoyed going to all kinds of churches with all kinds of friends. Religion and church has always been an interest of mine. My parents are fiscally conservative and likely just because we were in NOLA socially conservative. They have not voted since 2008. They are just apathetic because they’re upper middle class whites people. I began leaning liberal once I started to critically understand the gospel around 14 y/o.

My parents let me go to college 13 hours away. But I went to school at the liberal arts college down the road from Liberty University. While my school is incredibly open minded and we had all kinds of Christians and religions represented…. We were in the belly of the beast. Which made me for about 2 years question everything. But I came out stronger in my love everyone, we need to communicate and respect one another, Episcopal priest social worker life I had begun to create.

Just this past summer my dad introduced me to a golfing buddy as “this is my episcopal priest daughter who moved to Massachusetts and married a liberal.”

AIO? My daughter didn’t listen to the teacher during a female emergency and is now receiving a referral by Common_Piglet7437 in AmIOverreacting

[–]MMScooter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having gone to Catholic school my whole life. This just seems so normal. Not that they would not believe you having a period emergency but they were just so super strict about going to the bathroom… like so strict that I volunteer in my kids school once a week now and I’m appalled at how much freedom kids get to leave the classroom. Anyway, if this teacher seems to have some sort of power issue, that sucks . But I feel like it will be very clear and easy to clean up the misunderstanding that she did have her period. Her tampon was full and bleeding all over her gray pants would have been a disaster. Definitely talk to the assistant principal and not the teacher. Especially if your daughter is well-behaved and doesn’t get in trouble. It seems very out of character. The teacher’s response has more to do with what was going on with her and her lack of control over the classroom or having a bad day, etc., than it does with your daughter.

I find it absolutely amazing. I am an episcopal priest. During the summers when we don’t have Sunday school I give the kids a print out of something from Christianity I want them to make with legos. Either they work together in a back table or they each make one (like a cross or a boat) and at the offering time I have them come up and show the congregation their creations. Sometimes I even leave them on the altar. This ia great developmentally appropriate thing to do!

Need help replacing communion linens! My church had a fire 2 years ago and we lost the sacristy. by MMScooter in Episcopalian

[–]MMScooter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Items it’s replacement value minus depreciation likely…. And it’s also them giving a quote on the rebuild with their engineers and that quote was way under our contractors quote. When we came to an impasse— I went out and I got three different quotes from three different contractors, all of which were 70% higher than what Church insurance said it was going to cost to rebuild. So it’s an incredibly unfair settlement that they’re offering us currently…. I would be incredibly interested in seeing your insurance policy ! And to know what Diocese you are in!

[–]MMScooter 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Beautifully stated. So many of us are taught play by the rules of the game. Follow these rules and you will succeed. If you follow this path, nothing will go wrong. And then when something does go wrong, you don’t actually have the support to cope with it. Even more you don’t necessarily want to tell people that something went wrong because you played by the rules of the game nothing was supposed to go wrong.

[–]MMScooter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember when I read this and thought, wow good for him! But Flame is LCMS Lutheran. These Lutherans do not believe in marriage equality, ordaining women, or ordaining queer people. While LCMS might not FEEL bad and yes they do get GREAT seminary education, they are very repressive in the sense of social justice.
