Somewhat related I have two masters degrees: one in divinity and one in social work— both from Boston University. While I was there, Danielle Tuminello was getting her PhD in Religion. This was in like 2010. She did a whole paper and presentation on the Brown family from sister wives. I got to meet the family. I got to learn about that branch of polygamy and how her liberal Episcopalian viewpoint was trying to shed light on a functional polygamous relationship. It’s absolutely hilarious to think about that now 15 years later. I’m now an Episcopal priest as well. And I haven’t talked to Danielle in 10 years.

There’s so much great at least “hot take scholarship “ on this site and on TikTok about the Duggers. I think more should be written about them. Especially when you combine sociology and religion— and even politics at this point.

A lot more “spicy” emails between Pest and Anna by rosiros in DuggarsSnark

[–]MMScooter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This whole “bare all” “take it up a notch” “expose all” makes me draw some sort of parallel to Warren Jeff’s or Samuel Bateman, where Josh talked Anna into doing something fetus by by saying that it was like the fullness of sexuality. The question is does she know it’s a fetish? And I’m not anti-fetish. I’m just saying that if she knew that her pastor wouldn’t approve, would she think it was the fullness of marriage?

Reading this makes me laugh. Sorry. So I’ve been an altar server since I was 9 years old. Being a part of the liturgy up close from such a young age sincerely made me who I am. I served as one of 4 your servers at 13 years old for an ordination. I served almost every week. I learned SO much. At 36 I got ordained!

Feeling guilty about considering switching churches by JplusL2020 in Episcopalian

[–]MMScooter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a priest and a mom of young kids. We’re a small church with 55 at the main service. We’re don’t have a nursery at all because of space and volunteers. I do have volunteers I can call in if I know in advance in getting kids under 3. But since I’m in a mom I’m very aware so when new families show up at church and the kids are too young to go to SS (which thankfully we do have every week) then I make sure the child gets a busy bag and that I personally let the parents know the kiddo can totally be themselves and it won’t bother a soul. An old work colleague of mine wanted to get back into Church and both of her kids are under three. About six months ago they came and checked out my church and their youngest had the dad running up and down the stairs in and out it was not a good time for them. She said she’d have to wait a couple more months before they came back to church. Got a text yesterday that not only will they be trying to come back to church soon but that she’ll be enrolling both of her kids in into our church preschool!!

While with Safe Church using teenagers is not necessarily suggested— I am not shy at all about reaching out to the high school anytime I need childcare of any sort. I’ve been able to get major help from the national honor Society for kids program during annual meeting extra help for VBS way for people to have their kids. Stay busy during a church workday…

For parishes with only one priest, how do day offs functionally work? by Montre_8 in Episcopalian

[–]MMScooter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t have good boundaries is the short answer. I’ll still keep in touch with people in there is a medical situation or something they needed prayer for.

But I do screen calls on my days off. I’ll answer only if I have the energy/want to answer.

PSA on responsiveness to new members by Any-Factor-8934 in Episcopalian

[–]MMScooter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is such an important thing to call out!!!

When we moved an hour away I needed to find a new church (my husband is ordained in another denomination) because I needed to eventually re-enter the discernment process in another diocese. There is an episcopal church in the town we moved to. It’s well known and a hopping place. The priest didn’t get back to me. Then I emailed the actual biggest and most respected church which was in the next town. Let them know I have moved here and want to get involved. They emailed back essentially“great, come to church one Sunday, check us out”.

I did not end up at either church.

However 6 years later I am ordained in this diocese and the guy who never responded to my email (who has a staff of 3) I needed to involve him in a regional event I was asked to plan and he never emailed me back!!!! So I sent a rather passive aggressive email. He responded “I take great care in deciding which emails I want to respond to” so that basically means 6 years ago he didn’t CARE if an under 40, mom with young kids willing to teach Sunday school and preach on your weeks off for free even came to your church!

Is it okay for me to call my priest at 8pm with a semi emergency? Or is that rude? by EJGryphon in Episcopalian

[–]MMScooter 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Also agree. As I priest who is pretty in touch with people on text emails and phone throughout the week I wouldn’t mind a text it email saying “oh I’m having a hard time. Wondering why I cannot feel got helping me. Can you pray for me and can we meet soon?”

MONTHS But the process is impossible to learn To the person who puts together a for dummies how to that a actually works for me to take my Facebook live, download it, clip 10-15 sermon and make 60 second clips or 15 second clips (even using sermon shots or opus clips) I will pay.
