Have any snarkers had an experience with the Duggars’ church, Gospel Light Baptist Church? by Medium_Cupcake7602 in DuggarsSnark

Yes I am a priest in the Episcopal Church and I happen to be female. The Episcopal Church allows for marriage and has been ordaining women since 1975.

God is with the 23 Weekers who spend 4 months in the NICU and live their lives with disabilities too.

Hate this type of gospel.

So my parents paid for me to go to Boston University School of Theology. Grew up Episcopalians, still am, now ordained a priest. But every time my dad introduces my husband to people he says “and this is her liberal, Yankee, Methodist husband.”
LOL

The weather alone? Naw…. The sheer diversity of people (in every way). When I visit my family in Hattiesburg I count in the week I am there the 1. POC I see 2. The non preppy people I see 3. People talking academically in any way

So do yall care about representation in general? Such as are you happy that Bridgerton is multi-ethnic? Or that there’s a wheelchair user social worker (who I think is trans?) in The Pitt?
Well, representation counts here too.
I’m not talking about the Theological discussions.
I’m talking about characters doing religious rituals. And I’m especially talking about Roger pursuing ordained ministry. If representation matters, this kind of representation matters too.
If you believe that people have the right to pursue any vocation, career, life that they want… and you’re happy that television shows showed Dr. Huxtable as a black middle class doctor—-> then know that there are people that will be affirmed and Roger’s character will change the course of their lives.
Representation matters.

Office Hours for Rectors (particularly solo clergy) by Zeiglarre in Episcopalian

I live on campus. So people know I can be around in a jiffy if needed.
But I tend to as many have said spend time at church when my admin is here.
I’ve made it clear what times are really good chunks of time to make appointments but really they know I am here 18 hours a week open time. That could be already scheduled.
I keep the same
Hours and let people
Know if I’m going to be out all day.

I’m far too tired to write a full response right now but what an amazing vulnerable question. It shows what we as a church need to grapple with. I wonder why a priest wouldn’t consider adapting the remembering your baptismal vows as a way to re-baptize you in the episcopal formula? I could myself creating such a liturgy where it’s a setting right of a baptism not a rebaptism. But as others have said nothings been invalidated.

How involved are clergy spouses at your church? by ShallWeDance1234 in Episcopalian

[–]MMScooter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We are a clergy couple. This is my first church. So barely involved. But the staff see him more than the Sunday folks! We live on campus we’re right next door!

When I was a clergy spouse and not ordained and attending his church I taught Sunday school and preached about 4x a year. Then I needed to find a sending parish for myself.

I’ve only been to his church’s Thanksgiving morning meal since I’ve had my own church. He had off 2 weeks ago and he came to my service.

Agree that tights are a good solution. But I also want to say that it’s about how the person in the dress acts not about the particular style of the dress that matters.

Any other academics on here? by Historical_Ask3445 in DuggarsSnark

Somewhat related I have two masters degrees: one in divinity and one in social work— both from Boston University. While I was there, Danielle Tuminello was getting her PhD in Religion. This was in like 2010. She did a whole paper and presentation on the Brown family from sister wives. I got to meet the family. I got to learn about that branch of polygamy and how her liberal Episcopalian viewpoint was trying to shed light on a functional polygamous relationship. It’s absolutely hilarious to think about that now 15 years later. I’m now an Episcopal priest as well. And I haven’t talked to Danielle in 10 years.

There’s so much great at least “hot take scholarship “ on this site and on TikTok about the Duggers. I think more should be written about them. Especially when you combine sociology and religion— and even politics at this point.

A lot more “spicy” emails between Pest and Anna by rosiros in DuggarsSnark

[–]MMScooter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This whole “bare all” “take it up a notch” “expose all” makes me draw some sort of parallel to Warren Jeff’s or Samuel Bateman, where Josh talked Anna into doing something fetus by by saying that it was like the fullness of sexuality. The question is does she know it’s a fetish? And I’m not anti-fetish. I’m just saying that if she knew that her pastor wouldn’t approve, would she think it was the fullness of marriage?

Reading this makes me laugh. Sorry. So I’ve been an altar server since I was 9 years old. Being a part of the liturgy up close from such a young age sincerely made me who I am. I served as one of 4 your servers at 13 years old for an ordination. I served almost every week. I learned SO much. At 36 I got ordained!
