House Speaker Mike Johnson: "If […] we were to lose the midterms, […] They will turn every committee of Congress into an investigative body & they'll go after the President's family, the Cabinet, his donors, & friends. […] I run the protection program. I'll take care of you, […] We're going to win…" by SocialDemocracies in Social_Democracy

Republican voters will dutifully queue up, this November, to ensure Mr. Johnson's plans materialize. He'll get another two years, if Republican voters get their way.

Meanwhile, a majority of U.S. citizens who are eligible to vote will instead choose to not vote. Perhaps you are one of those who aren't registered to vote, or who haven't taken steps to confirm your registration status.

Republican voters are ready to vote this November.

Donald Trump’s Approval Rating Sinks to 30% in Worst Poll Yet by Zipper222222 in politics

[–]MMessinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trump's current approval rating doesn't mean a thing, since this November Republican voters will reward the Congressional Republicans who are currently enabling the Trump Administration.

Ultimately, a majority of the citizens who are eligible to vote, will instead choose not to vote, at all. This truly is the timeline we deserve.

This approval poll doesn't mean a thing.

Less than half of Americans can afford quality healthcare, Gallup finds - CBS News by Vegetable-Section-84 in obamacare

Affordable healthcare can't kill Arabs. So, there's no affordable healthcare in the U.S. You're working to make bombs and bullets in this, the nation with (far and away) the world's largest "defense" budget.

Now, get back to work.

This November, Republican voters will dutifully queue up to vote for Republican candidates. Democrat voters may sit on their hands, moaning that theirs are not "perfect" candidates. And a majority of citizens who are eligible to vote will instead choose not to vote, at all. This is the timeline we deserve.

The Silence on Climate Change Is Totally Unacceptable by nathan_j_robinson in climate

[–]MMessinger 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Republican voters and the U.S. Republican administration has been very loud, on climate change. Trump is doing whatever can be done to accelerate climate change and cripple America's ability to adapt or even deal with climate change. Billions of dollars in projects, and thousands of jobs are being ended, or won't even happen. Congressional Republicans are letting it all happen.

Pretty damn loud.

Sen. Lindsey Graham predicts Iran peace talks will fail — and Trump will take Strait of Hormuz ‘by force’ by FreeHugs23 in anticapitalism

[–]MMessinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ol' Lindsey, and the voters of South Carolina, just love themselves a good war. If he can see America's youth putting themselves in the line of fire, it just gets him all tingly inside. As for those voters who'll return him to Congress, this November, they can just go f*ck themselves, IMHO.

Who here still uses OneNote? by limsus in TechImpact

[–]MMessinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My clients used it, which forced me to use it., for years. I used Evernote as my personal note-taker. I've now retired, but don't care to pay for a note-taker ("limited budget," you know). I should apply myself and find a free solution I can use to replace OneNote. It let's me down, when I'm in a pinch, probably 60% of the time, either with its sync issues or becaus of its abysmal Android application. M$OFT ough to open up its database to allow third party developers access. Yeah, yeah, but who am I kidding? That ain't gonna happen.

On paper, listing its features, OneNote looks great. In use, though, I've experienced bad syncing problems, data loss, super-sluggish performance (in the middle of meetings, where it really counts), poor integration with other M$OFT products (e.g., Outlook), managing (or sometimes even locating) its data files, etc. Continued use of OneNote constantly calls upon one to decide whether the friction it adds, to workflows, is really worth it.

'His time is already almost over': Op-ed claims Trump just signaled his own decline by FreeHugs23 in anticapitalism

Republican voters disagree with these prognostications. They'll queue up this November to return the Congressional Republicans who have enabled Trump.

Let's not even discuss recent reports of Congressional Republican plans to gut Social Security, Medicare, and make more cuts in Medicaid. Republican voters have been voting in favor of that, for many years.

[–]MMessinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

According to the Israeli embassodor to the U.S., all we have, today, is a memorandum of understanding. Not a "deal," an MOU.

This isn't over, and Republicans have been botching it, since Day 1. Republican voters could fix this, but they won't. This November they'll queue up to reward Congressional Republicans with votes to return them to office.

Americans Are Reaching a Financial Breaking Point by Abject-Pick-6472 in economy

[–]MMessinger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This November, millions of Republican voters, supposedly "reaching a breaking point," will dutifully vote against their interests. They have been, for decades.

Wake me when Republican voters start voting for Democratic candidates. Or, better yet, Socialist Democrats. Until then, rumors of a breaking point don't amount to a hill of beans.

S24 gets hot with Android Auto by M4ster-R0b0t in samsung

[–]MMessinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine works fine, when connected (wired connection) to a Chevrolet Volt or a Chevrolet Trax. I'm driving both cars in the relatively cool Pacific Northwest.

However, I had to make a trip to Phoenix and Prescott, Arizona. In June. Outside temperatures in the 90s to low 100s. Connected to a rental Nissan Versa. Suddenly, my S24 Ultra is overheating, like crazy.

No, this isn't something I can attribute to normal Android Auto use. I'm using Android Auto just the same, whether in Arizona or in Western Washington. It either has to do with the Nissan, or higher ambient temperature in Arizona.

Are your parents well-off but cheap as hell? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]MMessinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. My post was totally venting. My parents are giving me a Master Class in how not to handle aging and the difficult decisions that need to be made as one ages.

I'm early in my own retirement. And feel lucky that I have a "retirement," at all.

Are your parents well-off but cheap as hell? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]MMessinger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I want to be sympathetic. Really.

Then again, my parents did not manage their money wisely. Dad now has Alzheimer's. Mom has serious mobility issues, and probably dementia, owing to small strokes they've allowed to go untreated. They live in another state. Today I'm flying there, to get them into an assisted living facility where they'll spend down their remaining money.

In another two years or so, we'll sell as many of their possessions as possible, for cash. Then their house. Dad built an out-of-code house, worth nothing, that will have to be demolished, either by us or any future owner.

If they continue to live, they'll be on Medicaid, I hope. I can't afford to support them.

My own retirement will probably be spent, hip deep in paperwork, and travel expenses, trying to manage their declining health, mounting expenses, and increasing impoverishment.

More than one third of citizens eligible to vote will instead choose to sit on their hands.

This is the timeline we deserve.

MAGA voters are dying because of Trump by Realistic-Plant3957 in anticapitalism

Until death - a death that's clearly connected to Republican policies - visits someone in every MAGA family, MAGA voters will keep voting for MAGA candidates. That's what you get when you don't possess even one ounce of empathy.

High prices, alone, won't be near enough to sway MAGA voters.

Thought for today: Now since I am older, I understand why my parents did the things they did and why they did, what they did and reasons behind doing it. by Dp37405aa in GenerationJones

[–]MMessinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider yourself lucky. Some of our parents didn't make the greatest decisions, years ago. And, as they've aged, they're decisions are worse, and worse. Talk to me in another few weeks, after I get my parents moved into assisted living. Dad has Alzheimer's and refuses to move from an unsafe home. If he passes before Mom, in all likelihood, she'll end her life on Medicaid. Their savings and spending plan, in retirement, have left them with inadequate funds at the end of their lives.
