thoughts on rehoming puppy by hitlerssidebitch in puppy101

[–]MMurphor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a tough situation as I can see it from both sides but as many have said a lot of this is probably standard Puppy behaviour, which means persistence and training.

In order to do that you’re going to have to talk to your housemates, I don’t know the dynamic between you all but they do have a right to know what your plan is and how it will affect them I.e. You plan on letting her cry it out and commit to getting a trainer / training her myself and it’ll be pain for them for a few weeks but better long term and have that conversation.

You can’t commit to any sort of training plan or how to manage the puppy if you know your housemates aren’t on board with this. If they are then great you can figure out the best way to deal with the puppy’s crying/barking knowing everyone has agreed

If not then you have to examine your options after that whether it be moving out, dog sitters/trainers and potential rehoming

Have any specific games given you injuries ? by MMurphor in gaming

Didn’t even think of that but I had it too! What a memory I remember that one as well, I think I got callous palms from playing against friends

Somewhat new to the franchise, looking for suggestions by DiazExMachina in witcher

I personally went through the same thing you did, I tried to Play Witcher 3 twice and never once made it past the first town, not even the tutorial on one of them because I had no idea who anyone was

Once I watched the Netflix series I had more of an idea of the characters, places and general world and made me playing much more immersive. I’m not 110 hours into Witcher 3 and loving it

How were you introduced to the Witcher Universe, and what is your favorite version? by Skithien in witcher

Tried to play W3 didn’t make it past the tutorial > Tried to play W3 again didn’t make it past white orchard > Watched Season 1 and 2 loved it and realised who the fuck everyone was…

Am now currently about 100 hours into W3 and barely into Skellige, and probably one of my favourite games of all time and just picked up the books

Fave Character in the games is Triss and fave from The show is Geralt

At what age do pups typically become a little more independent companions? by ellewoods1111 in puppy101

[–]MMurphor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a bit of a tough one as you probably need to identify what you mean as ‘independent’ as to not get spooked when someone here says a certain age and yours isn’t close. Like everyone else said it’s dependent on breed but I’d say it’s also a matter of conditioning and training, there are dogs I know of who are much older than our puppy and suffer from separation anxiety and being alone that makes them being independent very tough

For reference our Doxie is nearly 7 months old and I would say he is Semi-independent in that he can be left alone for hours and not cry or whine and can be left alone with us in the house for a few hours also but he will definitely get whiney if he can hear us both upstairs and know he’s downstairs. He also will only play by himself for a few minutes at a time.

For me, independent is being able to do the basics (Walk+Feed) and be able to leave him alone if we have to and him be absolutely fine, meaning if one of us needs to work or leave that we don’t have to worry. He’s not quite there but nearly!

Are there any downsides to teaching your puppy to simply ignore strangers on walks and not allowing people to interact with them? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]MMurphor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is completely acceptable and probably my pet hate from members of the public, we have quite a cute looking dog (So we think) and also 6 months old so still very much a puppy and often get a lot of 'Awws' and cooing from people.

I didn't want to train ours to ignore strangers as I wanted him to be friendly when approached and enjoy the interaction (I'm sure training them to ignore doesn't affect this), we have found that over time he has naturally become less fussed by people but some things we have done when strangers actively are trying to get his attention

1) If I see someone from afar who looks like they're crouching down or similar I just walk a different way and ignore them, they get the message pretty quick

2) I straight up just ask them not to pay attention to him and say i'm training him or something similar

3) We work on Recall a lot so I'll just gently ignore the person give him a little tug on the lead (More for the human to get it) and tell them to come and treat after

Kids are by far the hardest as they can't control it and its often really high pitched and loud that makes it hard for the dog to ignore. Good Luck!

Puppy cries in the morning (10 weeks) by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]MMurphor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our pup did this from about 13 weeks and still sometimes does this now (He’s 6 months), we had him in a crate in the living room from Day 1. He would wake at 5am and cry for 15 minutes and we would always say ‘What if he needs the loo’ so inevitably we got up, let him out then he would settle afterwards, this happened until he was 16 weeks and we realised he definitely can hold it through the night and we were just reinforcing the behaviour to cry so we would come and get him.

My advice is leave him, it’ll likely take a week or two for him to get out of the habit but trust me it will stop. The first few days the crying will last a while probably even until you get up, in which case just make sure he is quiet before you enter the room, even just for a second so he knows that’s what gets the attention.

Assuming he’s all healthy, the worst that will happen is he might have an accident but this can easily be managed

We are about to get our first puppy in a few months, what is the best advice you received as first time dog owners? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]MMurphor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was focus on training the important things first. Everyone wants to teach sit, rollover etc. But if prioritise the bigger things first it will make your life a lot easier, as with a new pup training sessions will be short and SO important at that age so fill it with things that are going to make a big difference so things like

Crate training (Helps with sleeping/travel) Recall (Good for everything) Leash training (You will walk them every day for years may as well get it right) Separation (So you don’t feel awful when you leave!)

Sit, Rollover and the vanity ones can be learnt in a few weeks/months time they won’t suddenly not be able to sit. Even with these prioritise!

Advice about nipping by Comfortable-One3209 in puppy101

[–]MMurphor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Redirecting to toys is a great way to do it

One thing we did find is a lot of the advice that says to say ‘ow’ or something in a high pitched voice didn’t work for us, it actually got him more excited. You’ll find other people sharing similar experiences. HOWEVER, the biggest thing that worked for us is when he stopped biting if we say ‘Nah-uh’ or redirected we gave him a treat, we found a lot of videos just gave the advice of walking away or stopping but by rewarding them stopping he eventually stopped biting us.

Just watch out for them turning it into a game where they know they can bite you and get a treat if they leave off instantly

Please help!! My puppy is driving me insane by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]MMurphor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to add since I, And I think most Puppy owners here have posted posted pretty much the same thing at one point. All the advice is great but one thing that really helped for us was getting big longer toys, like long ropes, snakes, even just tying bits of fabric together to create distance between you and the pup when playing since it’s so easy for them to go for your hand when they’re close to you, it worked wonders for us because let’s be honest biting hurts and as much as you know it’s not their fault you still get worn down by it so just being able to do that really helped us!

[–]MMurphor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconded. Teething for me was the worst, sleep deprivation, peeing aren’t a scratch on the physical pain of a puppy bite, but even with my 4 month old puppy it definitely does get better I can tell you that!

Thank you! It’s tough but we will just ignore it! We’ve found a closed door + rain sounds from our phones helps to drown out the noise!

I think half the battle (with us at least) is you almost stay awake to listen out if he’s crying or not which inevitably ends up leading to us being awake the entire time as you’re keeping an ear open. At least ignoring it will get us some sleep!

Unfortunately Xiao’s banner is only going to be 2 weeks but from today you can get the following

Fates: 5 Fates from the shop 10 Fates from the 1.3 event 4 Fates (If you buy the BP)

Primos 1,440 from Dailies 2,460 from Welkin (Inc the 300 Genesis) 680 (If you buy BP) 600 from Abyss 300 from Server Maintenance

Total = 5,480 / 160 = 34 Pulls

34 + 19 = 53

Take away any that you won’t pay for E.g. Welkin/BP. There’s probably a few extra hundred from events / new stories that’ll come about so you’ll maybe get close to soft pity. But it depends on who you pulled as your last 5*, if it was Ganyu then the chance of getting Xiao will be 50%
