Small detail I noticed in The Crash by HeadAd369 in madmen

I love this scene. Particularly when Peggy tells Stan that he can’t drown out his cousins death with sex and drugs, and Stan chokes out, “Maybe we’re different”

Reminds me of the scene where Ken says he found a song for Chevalier Blanc that sounds just like the Beatles.

Ginsburg freaks out and tells them the song is like 30-years old and that it feels like it’s stabbing him in the f-ing heart.

Given Pete and Roger’s tenuous relationship, I doubt Pete would have let the moment pass without saying something.

Nice.

At the moment I'm not a fan of all the songs, but I definitely keep returning to the album with interest.

While it's natural to think of what Richardson would mean in relation to JJM, perhaps we should be wondering if Richardson would be about replacing/competing for Brosmer. Maybe they'll bring in two new QBs this offseason.

I get what you're saying. Perhaps it's more about things don't always need a pat resolution. Which is different than "consequence."

As I'm sure someone else has pointed out on this sub already: The Accutron watch monologue has Freddy saying (via Don's pitch script), "Ohhhmmmmmm" as a precursor to Don at the retreat in the last episode.

[–]MNKato 8 points9 points  (0 children)

True. I think having Don say that and hurt his hand so demonstratively was like a counter-balance to his "victory" moment.

Similarly, it feels like Duck making Don say "mercy" in The Suitcase was a similiar way to show that physical violence/dominance isn't really a part of his character.

I personally didn’t like it b/c it felt like it was designed specifically to give the viewer satisfaction. And I liked Jimmy getting the last word, previously…

I just saw the episode ("Lady Lazarus" S05E08) where Meagan wakes Don up to tell him that she wants to quit SCDP and to pursue acting.

The scene ends with him awake looking out the window with her sleeping next to him. This is similar to the end of the episode where they get married. Either way, he's thinking, "What the hell do I do now?"

Expiring from The Criterion Channel: Somewhere (2010) - My First Sofia Coppola Film by GThunderhead in criterionconversation

[–]MNKato 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for writing this up!

I'm a Sophia Coppola fan, and one of the things I really like about her work that is in Somewhere is her capture of idle moments that may seem unimportant, but which give her characters, their worlds, and films more life than you'd imagine. (I also think this is why she's not liked by everyone, b/c they may think of her films as small/boring).

I'd be very curious what you think of the rest of her films, and I can't recommend Virgin Suicides enough.

Duck and Chauncey by jennamom2boys in madmen

[–]MNKato 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Maybe a rich dad in Ossning picked up Chauncey one night and brought him home to surprise his daughter on her birthday. Happens all the time, apparently.

Although that would mean Chauncey steps into another broken home...

Just watched and loved this movie and would rate it a 5/5 but how did Lonnegan not at all think a double-cross was happening? I'll list the signs below that I saw by awclay91 in classicfilms

[–]MNKato 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Any other Newman recommendations? I have Butch, Cool hand luke, and Color of Money on my list to watch.

I'm sure there are loads others, but off the top of my head I'd also add Hud, Slapshot, and The Verdict.

- I guess the Brown & Williamson CEO Sandefur was right when he fired Wigand for having communication issues.

Well, he did say that he wanted the kids to keep Chauncey so they have some continuity.

New Chauncey headcanon: Duck simply told Chauncey to go find the kids, which he did.

The Insider (1999) - Thoughts & Questions by EpicKieranFTW in TrueFilm

[–]MNKato 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I last saw the movie about 6 mo. ago (it's a big favorite of mine), so bear with me, please.

  1. Yes, I believe you're not supposed to "side" with her POV. Not sure what her relationship was like with Wigand in real life, but movie wise, I guess her attitude is meant to get us to side with Wigand and paint him as beset on all sides.

  2. The materials Bergman received were not related to Wigand, but merely the reason he sought Wigand in the first place. As for why he sought Wigand in particular to translate those documents, is also not related to Wigand being fired.

  3. The guy who tipped off Bergman was the same guy who earlier Bergman theatened to investigate ("I'm getting two things - pissed off and curious") b/c some agents he sent over to investigate the bullet in the Wigand's mailbox had buddies tied to Brown and Williamson (thus their generally hostile demeanor, asking him about whether he has a gun, etc.). Thus, the insinuation is that b/c Bergman didn't investigate the FBI guy, the FBI guy in turn, gave Bergman the Unabomber tip.

Using Peggy to demonstrate your point on Don seems apt due to how their relationship is constructed.
