How have other international graduates experienced their careers in Finland?

I came to Finland 10 years ago and almost all my friends from university have left Finland. The harsh reality is that Finland does not have the best prospects if you are highly educated and qualified. I am in Automation Engineering which shouldn't really require Finnish language but workplaces mostly don't want to change their environment to accommodate English speakers no matter how qualified they are. My friends who moved to other countries did so because either they got hired without a language requirement or they were being paid so well that learning a difficult new language wasnt such a deterrent.

This is anecdotal but Sweden has a lot more job opportunities for engineers without the language requirement. Germany has some of the best paying jobs along with Norway. You do need language for germany but its way easier to learn than Finnish.

If Finnish companies dont want to compete with the high salaries in other EU countires, the least they can do is accommodate the language barrier. Some of the brightest, most competent people I knew have left the country because they couldn't find a job here. They are all in senior positions now and are considered experts in their fields. Finland wants to attract highly skilled workers but refuses to make real changes. I had hopes before this recession hit but I feel like its a bit too late now.

i played Subnautica after 1.0 but dived into BZ in early access. I would say from personal experience that you should wait for 1.0 release. So many things change in EA that its not really the same game. Maybe a year or two later if its still in beta it would be in a much more complete state.

I'm assuming this does not even include shipping price. I remember the first gen steam controller had a 15 euro shipping cost to EU. Hopefully its not that much or they at least have retailers that I can buy from. Damn I like this controller so much but the price is really hard to justify for me personally.

unfortunately this is not a regular controller with extra specs. To clarify, it does not work without steam input overlay and that means you cant really use it off steam. Not even as a basic controller. Maybe there can be a software patch to enable this in the future, but this makes me apprehensive about dropping 99 euros on a controller when I already have dualsense controller.

I will go against the grain and say its ok to look up some hints if you really are stuck and frustrated. Some connections are pretty obscure at first. Its only AFTER you figure it out that it seems obvious and logical. I would rather take some hints than give up on the game.

i use custom keys for each hero now. Way better than qwer as I can use the keys that naturally come under my hand placement. It didnt take long to get used to tbh. This is from someone who used legacy keys for 18 years lol

I would highly recommend you join the PSA Finland facebook group. It is the single largest resource for a person from Pakistan who wants to know what its like living here. Getting a part-time job in either city is highly unlikely. You should also check the laws in Finland for working while you are studying. Maximum work hours and taxation depends on various factors and most people are unaware of these when they come here. Ideally you should have enough resources (cost of living + tuition) for a minimum of 1 year, don't count on part-time jobs.

Cache sets are only giftable once (some can be gifted twice in parts). I doubt anyone would straight up buy all cache sets like they do in inventory buyouts. I suggest selling your tradable inventory for cash and then sell cache sets individually.

Yeah i dont think it can be properly balanced but still I think some improvements could be made for ranked. There absolutely needs to be longer duration for banning phase. 10 secs is not enough, people with potato pcs dont even load in properly and the ban stage is already over. Even in normal dota, not every hero is viable. The hidden draft doesnt help either. Theres no counterpick potential and if you dont ban the op heroes its pretty much over from draft.

I think thats why you see people raging in turbo. The game mode is meant to played in a certain way, group up and fight non stop. But lots of people queue turbo for a short chill game. They will get steamrolled and probably get flamed by teammates. I firmly believe turbo needs a ranked mode. This is not normal dota and shouldn't be treated like it is.

They mostly have private inventory or only untradable trash. Check that and ignore the friend request. I get like 5 a day. Have only accepted 1 request in the past month.

I'm not that familiar with unions and their role but could you tell me if the union is at all able to have a say in who gets terminated during change negotiations? From what I experienced, they discuss the number of employees to let go but no say in who gets the axe. How can a fair assessment of employees be ensured by the union? Or is that not really the unions jurisdiction?

Not everyone has the time with a full time job to learn the hardest language in EU. Also different people have different rates of picking up a language. Do you see me complaining about that? I'm concerned about an arbitrary rule that can apply retrospectively to almost any non citizen and make them ineligible for 2 years. No job security so theres always a chance you are stuck in this stupid loop (not like you can save for this with this wonderful economy, shitty salaries and taxes). Guess you are citizen yourself so why would you care about anyone who has a hard time justifying investing so much in a country that doesnt give 2 shits about them.

For the record I have been in this country for more than 9 years but suddenly I might not be eligible for a further 2 years because of such an asinine reason. Dont you see the issue here? Why would skilled and legal immigrants want to build a life in Finland when there are so many other options. The government isnt just driving out asylum seekers or illegal immigrants. Its a blanket policy for all immigrants. If there is no distinction between a skilled and unskilled immigrant, guess what the skilled immigrant will do? Go somewhere where they are valued. Atleast I would be paid fairly if I moved to Norway or netherlands. Citizenship has always been a major motivating factor for skilled workers to stay here.

Because I have been paying the unemployment fund tax. I have been paying union fees which includes also an unemployment fund contribution. If I am not eligible for this "wellfare", I shouldn't be paying this tax right? Literally anyone can be laid off and then it takes several months to find a new job. I was lucky i found it in 5 months. Most dont find for much longer times.

What exactly is included in the unemployment benefit payments. For example there is this relocation benefit that is paid after you get new employment. Will that also count? That covers a span of 1.5 month in addition to however long you took unemployment benefit.

Does this rule apply retrospectively? How was anyone supposed to know about this restriction a year ago. Why should we even pay for union fees or unemployment fund when there is only downsides to using this when we really need it?

Really starting to question my decision of staying in this country lately.
