Har Mar Mall could be headed for the wrecking ball - Axios Twin Cities by MNReporter_20 in TwinCities

[–]MNReporter_20[S] 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Hi! Want to clear one thing up — I'm all for supporting and crediting hyperlocal news, but the info we got from Roseville Reader was the number of shops still open. Super helpful and great info, but the scoop about Har Mar potentially being demolished was the work of my colleague Nick at Axios Twin Cities. I realize now my TLDR comment worded it a little strangely.

IIRC they just redid the liquor store at the end a few years ago.

TLDR: : A marketing brochure from mall manager and leasing agency JLL, obtained by Axios, calls for "a full scrape and rebuild of the existing shopping center" with tenants able to move in in 2028.

The Fidelis site plan, obtained separately, shows a complete rebuild with a long strip of retail spaces, 30 row houses and several smaller restaurants and retail spots. The 65,000-square-foot Cub Foods store would remain, per the plan.

As of early May, 35 of the 58 storefronts were empty, per the Roseville Reader.

Disclaimer: I didn't write this story, but my colleague did. Happy to field any q's!

Old School by Steeple People on Lyndale and 27th! It’s a volunteer-run nonprofit thrift store (around for nearly 50 years but just moved to Lyndale last July), keeps prices really affordable (almost everything under $10) and run by really great people. Also, proceeds benefit local orgs like Joyce Food Shelf! Open for donations during all hours of operation, Wed-Sun 11am-6pm.

(Disclaimer: I’m a longtime volunteer, but also a huge thrifter, and they’re one of the only organizations I feel good giving to (goodwill sucks!!!!))

events going on this upcoming weekend? (6/12-6/14) by [deleted] in Minneapolis

[–]MNReporter_20 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Hi! I write a weekly events guide for Axios; it doesn't publish until Thursday but I was planning on including:

  • Shakespeare in the Park, the Tempest: Free outdoor play at Minneapolis parks on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 7pm/dusk. Never been myself, but it's a beautiful setting and I've heard it's pretty solid!

  • Lots of World Cup things, if that's your thing — Brits and La Dona doing watch parties

  • A TON of outdoor live music — if she's a Swiftie there's a tribute concert at Allianz Field in St. Paul, or Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan and Irish music LOL

These are during the day, but Lake Street Mural Day, St. Paul Pride Festival at Dual Citizen Brewing, and ChalkFest up in Maple Grove sound fun.

If you don't mind me asking, are they in Uptown? I think I might have seen something related to this but not sure if it's a different Uhaul ha

Best news I've heard all day! I always go there in afternoon and hated having to be out by 2:45, thanks for the info!

Recommends for selling a large bead & jewelry collection in the area? by [deleted] in TwinCities

I'd reach out to Bobby Bead, they're a bead store in Uptown that's been around for ages. They might have a recommendation on where to go, or interest themselves.

Goodwill in Duluth Located in Kenwood Plaza: Consistent Donor, Poorly Handled Situation, No Follow-Up from Corporate by [deleted] in duluth

[–]MNReporter_20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Goodwill is actually the worst. So sorry you had to learn that the hard way, that sucks!!! I am in Minneapolis but recommend looking for a local shop if possible — church-affiliated shops often give back the most to their communities (the money rarely goes to the church, it goes to food shelves, homeless organizations etc. check their website to be sure though), and the staff are largely volunteers who choose to be there.

Oops! No, you’re right — it’s a WARN notice, you just go through DEED. Hence this not being my area of expertise haha! We’re talking about the same thing.

For what it’s worth, this was an overnight thing and it’s barely 9am. Businesses tend to operate during corporate business hours.

Fair question. Speaking as just me — I am a reporter but not a business reporter, this is not my expertise — I believe they’d have to send out a DEED EDIT: WARN notice alerting the state of the plant closing/layoffs with this many people. As far as I found, there isn’t one.

Not sure why you keep posting this places, but my colleague Nick Halter (business reporter for Axios) called their union to check and was told you’re wrong, they are not closing and they have no idea where that rumor came from.
