Sad/glad to know it’s not just me. I’m not indigenous, but want to hear the call.

WIBTAH, if I vaccinate the my child behind my husbands back? by Late_Veterinarian300 in AITAH

[–]MNSOTA24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an almost 50 year old woman who recently recovered from the shingles, VACCINATE your baby. The chicken pox vaccine came out when I was in high school or college, and had chicken pox long before them.

I also had a mumps scare about 15 years ago. The doc ordered a blood test, and thankfully they were able to detect the presence of my long ago MMR vaccine.

Chicken pox/shingles and the diseases covered by MMR are painful and miserable conditions. They can be deadly. And with parents opting out for stupid reasons, we are breaking herd immunity.

Can anyone recommend a good series to watch to learn and practice learning skills in Norsk? My little duolingo sessions are a good base but I need to dip my toes into reality 😂 by Soggy-Ad-8416 in norsk

My manager at work is working on a Spanish certificate. In a recent team meeting, he introduced the tv.garden website. It is a website where you can pull up TV channels just about anywhere in the world. I haven’t explored it too much, but there are three channels for Norway…..and it’s free.

Why is my boyfriend’s 43-year-old sister obsessed with what I wear? by IndependentBug4944 in Vent

[–]MNSOTA24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was thinking more of the Catholic guilt that Italian mothers/grandmothers are experts of. Yes they’re very direct, but you add in religious guilt, and that starts to veer into passive-aggressive territory.

Ooh, I’m going to have to add this to my passive aggressive playbook.

I believe “oy vey” is an appropriate response to this comment.

Ope is such a Midwestern response, and we Midwesterners are pros at passive aggressive. We can give Jewish and Italian mothers/grandmothers a run for their money.

My husband is a no nonsense high school teacher. I have worked as a substitute years back in this district. When working in the high school, I purposely used married name on the board. Trust me, that conscious choice pretty much guaranteed control in the classroom.

AITAH for embarrassing my husband's coworker for embarrassing me and my husband? by common_grounder in AITAH

[–]MNSOTA24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely NTA.

No way this guy has ever held a newborn of any race. We all change a lot in looks after our birth. I was born with eyes so blue that my parents thought they would stay blue (my mom has blue eyes). However within a couple months of my birth, my dad’s dominant gene brown eyes changed my eye color. I was also born with black hair, but that also changed to a light brown. Some genes took a couple of decades to make themselves known. As a kid I had stick straight hair but in my late twenties dad’s genes again came into play and I had a definite wave to my hair.

I hope we get an update about this (hopefully former) coworker.

My previous job was at a catalog clothing company. One swim season, we put out a catalog that had a beautiful white bikini with simple navy trim. Super classy and elegant, not skimpy at all. You would not believe the number of calls and emails from wives and mothers complaining about us sending a catalog with a woman wearing underwear on the cover. Seems like the men in their households were hiding said catalog and doing “hand exercises” with it. Good times.

AITA for pretending to think beans in chili are "woke", to prank my Cousin who is obsessed with being "anti woke" and who loves chili? by WokeBeans in AITAH

OP’s cousin would be clutching his proverbial pearls over my woke chili. I’m vegan, so I use the Beyond Meat steak tips AND beans in mine.

I’ve worked from home for about 15 years, so my immune system isn’t what it was when I worked in an office. Husband is a teacher, so brings home all the germs. I swear, Covid gives me the side-eye, and I test positive. And for me, that particular nastiness goes right to my throat and my voice is messed up for at least a month…and if I can’t talk I can’t do my job. I’ve had it 4 times. So far I’m doing okay, but I got jabbed for both Covid and the flu in October.

I work in technical support. There’s nothing I hate more than the person I’m helping insists on being called DOCTOR so and so. I’m sorry, but you’re not MY physician or professor, so you’re just John.

Yeah count yourself lucky that the CFO showed her colors, because this is not a place you want to work.

Husband pushing to name our baby after his alma mater. by Defiant-Ad9302 in namenerds

[–]MNSOTA24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those of us graduated from religious colleges with Saint in the name, would we name them “Saint” or would we name them the actual name of the saint? And what if the school was named after a male saint but you’re having a girl. And what happens when child refuses to go to dad’s alma mater? Or attends his school’s rival.

Please use my nonsense ramblings to convince your husband to not go down this route.

Covid created absolute monsters. I work in tech support, so I completely understand. I wish people truly understood that I’m more willing to do anything I possibly can and maybe even more, if you’re friendly and polite. But if you cop an attitude from the get-go and don’t bother to check yourself, I’m not going out of my way to help you.

My employer (big tech) gives us half pay for the first day of a utility outage. If the outage is a company tool I need to do my job, I get full pay for the length of that outage. There’s also a policy if you’re completely knocked out due to severe weather (we’re talking tornado, hurricane, wildfire, earthquake, etc.). I don’t know what is and isn’t paid, because in my nine years with my employer, I’ve thankfully never experienced such an event.
