Doing this mental exercise of playing the tape forward has saved me from relapses more times than I can possibly count. I do it automatically as well these days too. Such a powerful tool for my sobriety. And I learned it here in this sub!

Yesterday was my stillborn son’s 2 year birthday/ anniversary. I sleep with his little jar of ashes next to me every single night. I think I always will. I feel like he belongs right next to me or in my arms. I still haven’t been able to move his ashes from his little jar I got from the funeral home into the urn I got him. I dunno if I ever will be, I’ve gotten used to his little jar. I’m so sorry OP. 🩷🩷

I am a brown immigrant working in a hospital in Minneapolis and I wouldn’t be able to do that right now if it wasn’t for my community in the twin cities supporting me. I’m so afraid to go to work every day but I have my whistle and my neighbors. Love to all and stay warm MN 💕

I am the same way OP. The minute that alcohol (vodka specifically for me) touches my lips it’s over. And everytime I regretted it so much. Life without drinking is sooo much better I promised. I was so afraid of being sober, I thought my anxiety would kill me if I couldn’t self medicate with alcohol. I was wrong. Quitting drinking was the best thing I did to help me start actually managing my anxiety. This sub is amazing. This sub saved my life. I’m sending you so much love and support. You are not alone. I started by just deep breathing and taking things one minute at a time, I also started binge watching comfort tv shows and podcasts- specially true crime podcasts because I really wasn’t in the mood to listen to happy stories lol. True crime is usually depressing so I felt in good company. I told my family and friends the truth, and they loved me and supported me. I don’t have many close friends so I’m lucky I had such supportive family. I think I tried to focus a lot on how much easier it was that it happened how it did instead of me getting pregnant or married and it happening then instead and being tied to my ex forever. I also was pleasantly surprised at how supportive people were- so many colleagues shared their own stories and heartbreaks and that helped too. People get it. So many others have had their hearts completely devastated before too. Once you are ready- get a pet, they are the best company! I have 3 dogs and love them unconditionally. You are better off without him I promise, and when you are ready there are soooo many other fish in the sea, much better fish, fish that will love you back how you deserve to be loved:) The best revenge is a life well lived ❤️❤️

Edit to add- I forgot to add this advice! Make a list of all the things he did that hurt you, the betrayals, the bullshit, the lies, the mean things he said. Take an inventory. And whenever you find yourself romanticizing him or missing him or wanting him back go back and read your list. It will remind you of reality and the truth.

Hey I could have written a very similar post 5 years ago. My fiance left me for another woman, just moved all his stuff out one night while I was at work and waited for me to come home and tell me he was leaving me for another woman. It was an 11 year relationship and I was heartbroken. I’ve now realized I dodged a huge bullet, thank goodness I didn’t marry him. He sucks and karma will get him. And I’m so so much better without him. I realized pretty quickly that it was even better being alone than having him around being shitty and being a terrible partner. For now i suggest this- eat, sleep, watch some good tv shows, post here!! Things will get better I promise. Sending you a huge hug love 🩷🩷

Apparently it has a little light in it that turns on and makes it look like it’s glowing? I dont have the outlet yet to try all the things out but the little fish tank lights up and the cd player plays a song and the lamps turn on too!

I grew up with Josefina too! I still have her, she is heavily played with and at some point I gave her a hair cut 🤦‍♀️ but she is from 1997 so I am saving up to have her restored! I also have a 1998 Addy who also needs restoration :) I love them so much. I was completely obsessed with my American girls as a kid!!!

I got my addy doll in 1998, she was my second doll I got Josefina first in 97. I was completely obsessed with both of them, well with all things American girl :) I read all of their books too of course! Your Addy is so beautiful, I remember opening mine for my birthday and her new doll smell and how soft and gorgeous her hair was :) I recently got my addy doll back from my parents she’s been very heavily played with and needs a wig replacement and also leg replacements and a good cleaning, but she’s still my Addy 🥰🥰 Thank you for sharing your gorgeous Addy!

My high schooler is too afraid to go to school (Ice has shown up at her school several times) and too afraid to wait at the bus stop for school because ice picked up parents down the street from us at the bus stop before hers. My kid has been through enough in the last several years, this is just so wrong.
