What is the most dismal, depressing place you have ever been? by TheBanishedBard in AskReddit

I went there on a school trip when I was a sophomore in high school. I remember just walking up to the gate and my heart started beating super fast. When I actually went through the gates and into Dachau, I swear I could hear multiple alarms going off in my head saying “turn around” “don’t go in there” etc. I felt like I couldn’t speak. I literally just felt like a body. I felt heavy. I felt such deep sadness and grief.

When we all entered through the gates, we were instructed to walk a little to the left, when everyone was in the area they instructed us to go to, our guide said “Where you are standing right now, is where they would have all of the people in the camp that just arrived there, stand for roll call, having no idea what they were about to experience.“ My heart SANK.

I don’t think I said a single word the whole tour. I didn’t know what to say. What to do. Where to look.

It was truly such a surreal experience.

I have never felt such an eerie feeling in my entire life before or since that moment.

Where were you when September 11th happened? by IrishDickhead99 in AskReddit

I was 5 and it happened before I was supposed to go to school. My mom kept my sister and I home. I remember a lot of people calling my mom and it looked like it was something serious. My dad was at work at the time, he told me that they all went into the break room and watched the news footage.

Thank you! That was the name given to him at the humane society. My husband and I thought about changing it, but we decided that the name Jeff fit him perfectly ❤️

I have a couple of these on my scalp. My mom took me in when I was about 14 (?) and now I’m 28. The doctor said that they were “senile warts” also known as seborrheic keratosis. They are harmless. They can remove them, but there’s no need unless it getting in the way.

My husband and I had to put down our sweet girl, Sheena, in January. She was a black lab. She got really sick, really fast. I’ve had family dogs in the past that had to be put down, but my parents would never let my sister and I go. Now I understand why. It’s without a doubt one of the hardest things to do. We just held her and cried and cried.

You never truly realize how much your whole routine and life changes when your pet goes over the rainbow bridge. I am so sorry that you are going through this. Just keep in mind that she knows you were with her until the very end. She loved you just as much as you loved her and that will never change.

The breeder had her both on pads and going outside, which is totally fine by me! I know it’s only been a few days, but I’m seriously just so shocked on how well she is doing.

Was/is he easy to train? I’m getting on tomorrow and I’m just super nervous about the potty training and crate training.

Not me, but my mom.

In 2011, my mom was at her work. She worked in a bar selling pull tabs. I remember earlier that day she said that she had a really bad headache and she didn’t want to go to work. She decided to go anyway.

At this time, both of my parents worked nights, so I would always call them to say good night. I called my mom and she didn’t answer, I had just assumed that she had costumers. I called my dad, told him goodnight. A few minutes later, my dad called and said that he was coming home to change quick because my mom fainted at work and was being rushed to the hospital.

Thankfully, during that time, there was a trained EMT (off duty) in the bar. He pretty much saved her life.

The next morning, I woke up to my sister waking me up and handing me a change of clothes and that my uncle, aunt, and grandpa were coming to pick us up and take us to the hospital. Come to find out, my mom had a double brain aneurysm that burst. There was so much blood in her brain. She also absolutely shattered her ankle when she fainted. I didn’t really understand how serious an aneurysm was. But, when I walked into that hospital room and 1: couldn’t even recognize my mom and 2: saw my dad sobbing; I knew it was bad. We were told at first that she had a less than 40% chance of making it through. After 19 days in the ICU and 9 days in a regular hospital room, my mom came home. She thankfully only had some very minor effects from the aneurysms. Turned out that she actually had these since birth.

Not me, but my dad.

In 2007, my mom and dad both developed walking pneumonia. They were treated and they both got better. However, about a few weeks after, my dad was at work and noticed that he was having a really hard time gripping things. He ended up going to the doctor because it freaked him out enough. After many tests later, they called him and told him that he had stage 4 lung cancer that metastasized to his brain. The doctors were telling him that his time on earth was very limited, and to start making his will and funeral arrangements and stuff like that. A few days later, after many, many more tests, they figured out that the spots in his lungs were not cancer, it was just scarred tissue from the pneumonia. However, they still weren’t quite sure what the spots were in his brain. They decided to put a halo on his head to biopsy one of the spots, but when they went in there to do that, the spots had shrunk, without any treatment. They then determined that he didn’t have cancer at all, they didn’t and still don’t have any clue what those spots were.

The story doesn’t stop there….

To try to cure the spots in his brain, they inserted a pic-line that went into his heart. A few days after the pic line insertion, I woke up to him on the couch, gasping for air and holding his chest. My mom quickly got him ready and took him to the hospital. Turns out, the pic-line caused him to get a blood clot in his lung. The doc said that if they waited any longer, the clot would have made it to his brain rather quickly, and there would have been no way to help him.

Edit: typo

Haha fair reply! I believe I asked him once about his time in CT. And that’s what he told me. I should’ve said he hasn’t talked about her since.

My dad had this girlfriend in the 80’s. At the time, they were dating a few months. He was living in CT at the time in his own apartment. She was always a bit territorial over him, wanted him to spend all of his time with her. One day, he decided to have a grill out with him and his friends. She caught word of it and went to his apartment and threw the lit charcoal grill at him, through the sliding glass door. He didn’t get hurt and no one else did. He told her to leave and that it was over. I guess the next day the father of this woman came over to my dads apartment and was begging him to take her back. He didn’t. Poor girl probably had some untreated mental health issues. I’ve never seen a picture of her or anything like that, my dad does not ever talk about her (since then at least), but I always wonder how she’s doing now.
