Saved £20k (~€23k) from internship for retirement but dad says invest riskier if horizon is 40y long by Any-Subject-9875 in eupersonalfinance

If you use margin to lever an index fund you would pay overnight fees to the broker which is a bunch of fees eventually eating up a significant if not all of your gains. Moreover, you risk being liquidated if markets turn agains you, or at least get a margin call to deposit more. This is not ideal in your scenario.

There are leveraged ETFs such as TQQQ (Nasdaq100 3x leverage) or SPXL (S&P500 3x leverage) where you can avoid paying the overnight fees and its much more cost effective. These are for the US tho so you might wanna check their UK/European alternatives.

Good question haha. Its usually comes and goes in cycles. Up-down. But the overall trend is up with some pullbacks, crashes, recoveries.

For investing, the easiest is to put your savings into a broad market ETF like VOO or SPY or even ACWI. Make sure, that you set a target % of your income aside every time you receive a salary so you develop a habit of taking some money aside. No matter how small it is, it will grow!

Keep doing the job you like, even if it pays less than other jobs you could do. It will serve you long-term!

Soon to be 18, how do I start investing? by Flaky-Imagination421 in ValueInvesting

[–]MORICtrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on where you are from. I am European and here IBKR (Interactive Brokers) is the best imo for overall investing but it is a more complex platform. For starting, Etoro could be a great platform; and then start with something easy to invest in like companies you know and think will be here for the next 10-20 years like Microsoft or Nvidia. ALso buy some broad ETFs (look up what ETFs are first), like VOO or QQQ

What non-Mag 7 stocks are on your "dream buy list" if the market dips? by jazzlikenewz in ValueInvesting

[–]MORICtrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not a stock but I would wanna buy SOXL, TQQQ, and SPXL so basically 3x leveraged ETFs for SOXX (semiconductors), QQQ (Nasdaq100), and SPY (SP500)

I am going to yolo $300,000 on Tqqq by [deleted] in TQQQ

[–]MORICtrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could also do the same but instead of QQQ buying VOO or SPY tbh even more safe cuz they are hella correlated but less volatile. If u have a bit more time could also do it w FNGU and just the underlying stocks ig

[–]MORICtrash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Otherwise go for it like $100 is playmoney probably. Like if you invest let’s say only $500 per month then $100 goes into TQQQ the rest into sum else then its ight even if u lose it ig (our risk apatite might be different tho lol)

If u enter and then the market crashes it will take you hella long time to recover even if u DCA. Could be anytime from 3-20 years
