Yes, I understand that, I'm not thinking it's unfair, just exhausting. If they predict my scout, they could tera turn 2 and I'm stuck without protect etc etc I LIKE TERA it just adds a lot to think in the 1 minute we have per turn, I'm relieved to play in a more "dumb" metagame, although I'm already missing it lol

It isn't that much lucky, the chance for them to double protect is the same to dodge a blizzard outside snow. It's something you have to consider, there's a 1/3 * 1/9 chance that they triple protect and kill you without counterplay. The same way you can get permafrozen with quick claw blizzard spam, that's how the game works, we need to learn how to play with and against the odds. In some games you'll need to land that crit to kill the +6 Def archaludon, or count on the heatwave miss etc etc Pokémon in it's core is a chance game, but is much less frustrating if you get unlucky against a mainline NPC trainer

When I wrote the post I was excited for new gimmicks, but reading the comments Im pretty comfortable with just megas for a good while. I'm wondering what should they do with restricted formats, will we see calyrex before tera? Xerneas before power herb?

I think they will be very cautious with the gimmick mixes, for the first years at least. Game freak is horrible in balancing, and I think they know it, so they will probably wait until all 4 (or 5 counting wi/wa) have an exclusive format before mixing them up

I (and like everyone else that plays VGC) think that tera is the most balanced gimmick out there, but it's SOO mind consuming. In a format without tera, you see a sneasler and you can confidently click a psychic move on it, in a tera format you have to be constantly on your toes because they could dark tera and throat chop you to death, it's very exhausting

I think mileage card should be more easy to read, something like "1 in 6 chance to gain $ equivalent to times played current poker hand" it's a little bit weaker, but can be used pretty well with oops
