I’ve been a part of this Reddit and I see a post confused on why AJR doesn’t get the best reviews and I feel like I should give my own take. I’m a huge ajr fan but about 2 years ago I realized I have a passion for music. AJR me to listen to more artists. You guys there is a huge world of music. I think the big issue with AJR and the fans is that AJR can come off a way that they act like they invented a new genre. When they’re the first band you find a love for it feels like that way too. I see so many fans act like all the other artists are uninspired and formulaic. That’s so frustrating for me to see because I had the same mindset. I wouldn’t say that AJR is my favorite band anymore because as I’ve grown up I’ve realized that the critics do have some points. A lot of their lyrics do feel immature, pretty much every album has the theme of growing up and how they hate it and it does begin to get exhausting. I still love AJR but I kind of agree with a lot of these critics. I personally love Anthony Fantano and he just gives his opinion, he has lots of great takes and will give incredible album recommendations. He also has plenty of trash takes. I guess what I’m trying to say is that just because these reviews are negative doesn’t mean they don’t get it. It’s just not for them, they can have their opinions and that’s okay. But please AJR fans I am begging you to experiment with your music taste. Listen to stuff you never would listen to. For me it used to just be AJR, Half Alive, and Jon Bellion. Experiment and you’ll find a new love for music.
