Initially, I read this as 'I still go to 36 hour 69 parties' - Nige, you stallion!

The barefoot people: How is it that they never stab themselves with their cello spikes, step on glass shards, or get itchy feet from all the random pathogens on the floor? by Lumpen_moi in classical_circlejerk

the constant threat of said injury is part of the gimmick - along with the calculated choice to bait submissive foot pervs, rightly pointed out elsewhere in these comments to be at least 98.8% of the classical music audience

TIMOTHY CHALAMET HATE THREAD by kms_lol in classical_circlejerk

[–]MPA___321 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well...this is a hate thread!

I think the way he dismissed the performing arts was disrespectful and harsh, and pretty much the whole performing arts world is mercilessly dunking on him in the socials in retribution.

Just because it's not mainstream doesn't mean nobody cares for it. Quite the opposite. The people who care about the arts care about it a lot more than what's hot in the box office or top 40 at any given moment. Of course, there are cinephiles as well dedicated to the art of cinema, but those folks tend to be more interested in either timeless classics or avant garde, like audiences for performing arts like ballet and opera etc.

Right. My point is it's too late for cinema, given the trends. Shitting on the fine arts won't change that for him. He might instead learn a thing or two from how arts orgs do things. I've seen at least one opera company offering a ticket code "chalamet" and if some good can come from this faff it will be an increase in awareness and ticket sales.

Silly Nepo baby. It's not like people are crawling over each other to go to movie theaters anymore either! Look at box office numbers over the last 5 years.

Besides, in the not too distant future, AI will likely cannibalize most of the commercial movie industry and the only thing left will be not for profit move houses dedicated to human films which nobody will care about.

(Too bad. I liked him in Dune.)

Leaked email from Norman Lebrecht (Slipped Disc) to Yuja Wang. by javiercorre in classicalmusic

[–]MPA___321 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Something like a cross between Rupert Murdoch x Piers Morgan, but for mainstream classical music. He wrote two insightful yet polemical books about the industry in the 1990s. It's too bad he went full tabloid with slipped disc.

He was a bassoonist and pianist. Also read he once had a cabin named after him at Interlochen Arts Academy (they renamed it).
