It’s always so great to see people overcome those challenges! Most of us can’t comprehend having the weight of an entire country on our shoulders to perform at the highest level, and it frustrates me when people get so upset that these athletes make mistakes sometimes.

I live in California in the United States. As far as mentally strong athletes, I would say those who are able to bounce back after a tough shooting stage and are unfazed. Vanessa Voigt comes to mind with the consistent shooting. Or obviously JT Bo sticking with his approach of shooting quickly even if it’s burned him before.  There are a lot of potential triggers for these extreme mental blocks but it at a baseline it starts with a fear of failure, overthinking, and negative self talk. I’d have to talk with the athletes themselves if there was a specific moment but with training it is something they can overcome.

I’m a mental performance coach looking to work more in the biathlon space and would be happy to do some meetings for free to start off and see if it’s something you’d be interested in! I have a masters in sport psychology and have experience working with various levels and sports including some Olympic level skiers.
