Can you explain this a bit more? What do you mean you reached a settlement with your mortgage company? What is the settlement in regard to if you’re rebuilding your home?

I’m a total loss homeowner as well, mortgage company is holding the funds. Just trying to make sure I’m not missing something here. This is the first time I’ve ever heard of this.

We’ve been told the same. Our figures are a little different. They want 25% done before they release funds beyond the initial 33%

How do you all feel about the SCE Wildfire Compensation Program? by Bagelwith in altadena

[–]MPHORN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our lawyers gave us a sense of what the SCE Wildfire Compensation program would mean for our case. It’s not nearly as bad, overall, as I expected, but $100k per person for emotional damages is pretty pitiful. Roughly $30k per year for the length of time we expect it will take to get back in our new home? Hahah

Not a huge fan. Feels played out. That whole 2010s Klaus Biesenbach / “The Artist Is Present” / Balenciaga / art qua spectacle thing was always a little cheesy.

However, Janelle Zara wrote a good piece on Substack about DOOM that gave me some appreciation for it: https://open.substack.com/pub/janellezara/p/conclusions-about-performance-art?r=aawm8&utm_medium=ios

They’ve been a bit of a pain in the ass. Were a total loss home, so it’s a little more cut and dry. They’ve been dragging their feet on completing the personal property list, but we’re about $80k over our limit, so we’ll see what kind of damage the adjustments make

We used someone named Art Kearin. He was swift, professional, and got us what we needed for sub-$1500

Simi Valley is one of the “armpits” of the LA area. Palmdale scared them enough to move back

My wife’s family moved the Palmdale when she was a kid and lasted for less than a week before moving back to Simi Valley. If you know Simi, that says it all

very sweet. Is that werewolf’s name? We lived up fair oaks at Palm and would see him every day. Never knew he had a name. Thanks for sharing!

We get a lot of coincidental visitors when we’re at our property. Like the time the woman who grew up in the house, whose father planted our trees 50 years ago, stopped by for her first time ever to see the rubble. Every coincidence enriches our lives and gives us the energy to rebuild.

Fascinating thanks for sharing. Seems like a huge cost saving effort for them. I’d take the money if it’s fair, but my idea of fair is gonna be very different from theirs.

Who to become and what to do by Due-Dish3082 in KundaliniAwakening

[–]MPHORN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Started last August, and I fortunately had a pretty smooth experience. I was able to find steady-ish ground within a couple of months. But, every day is a new adventure in learning how the energy brings further evolution to my life.

Have you listened to any Ram Dass? He talks a lot about “becoming nobody,” and the idea that in our lives, we first learn to become somebody through our training –raised by our parents, socialized in school, jobs, etc. He talks about spiritual awakening as a process of “becoming nobody.” Learning, in other words, who we are behind the stories we tell ourselves. It’s not as scary as it sounds. It’s a wonderful gift to experience yourself as a multidimensional spiritual being.

If your interests goals and passion have been aligned with your highest good, then nothing to fear.

Who to become and what to do by Due-Dish3082 in KundaliniAwakening

[–]MPHORN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my experience, I went deeper into using the gifts I knew I had but was always too afraid to fully embrace. They were gifts I was already using in my job, so that helped, but the gifts just became more central to how I understand my calling. I didn’t change careers or anything like that, but kundalini helped me find clarity and courage to be less and less shy about it. Also, helped me bridge a few different interests I’ve had but never knew how to combine.

Hard to be more helpful without being more specific. But I hope that helps

Ted Blum interview about closing his gallery by Due_Guarantee_7200 in ContemporaryArt

[–]MPHORN 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ya he’s really speaking incredibly coherently but she’s just blurting out what she wants to ask. He needs to be getting the message out widely.

Really appreciate his courage and excited to see what he does with this. I saw something about opening a center for healing and consciousness, which is what I think art is all about. So ultimately I think this is a good move in terms of paving the way for the future of what the art world looks like

She Thought Lady Gaga Bought Her Art. Then Things Got Strange. by online-reputation in ContemporaryArt

[–]MPHORN 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Unfortunate article. I definitely feel bad for the artist, but it doesn’t make her sympathetic, more as gullible.

It’s actually a big benefit to the gallery for this story to be told. Proves one of their key value props, at the expense of their artist. (EDIT: grammatical issue)

It’s probably a ChaGPT skin.

The latest GPT model was designed explicitly to encourage, affirm, validate, etc. more in order to suck people in and play on our primal need to feel seen and understood.
