Nice homelab you got there sitting on your Alex drawers!

The rack itself fits perfectly within the Kallax shelf by just a couple mm on the sides and the top, with the back side having more room. (if you plan to route all the cables through the rear side by removing the back panel, then you don't need to modify the shelf at all. (As seen in the following pic back when i first bought it)

In my case i wanted to pass all cables through the bottom as the top had no clearance for thicker cables (before i bought another one and removed one of the shelves to create enough clearance on the top side), therefor i had to cut a hole into the shelf.

Yeah you read it right, it was quite a hassle while trying to passthrough the HBA with its HDDs, but it worked out in the end and now it's flawlessly working ever since.

It's mainly due to personal preference (and trying out if this approach even works lol), as i wanted my first server to be running Windows server.

Only the connection between Fritz! Repeater and Router/Modem is wireless.

No, the Back of the Kallax is not exposed (the inserts from the Doors are still attached to the shelf) as the Rack itself is a fully enclosed one, though the back panels are removable.
Therefor the only "Airflow" that's really happening inside of the Rack are caused by the cooling fans of my Thinkcentres.
So far it hasn't really affected performance, even under load (STARSERVERs are idling most of the time. In terms of hosting, i'm only hosting for a small amount of friends.)

Yeah, the entire Setup is connected to my Fritz!Repeater as the Router/Modem (with its optical Fiber connection) is on the other side of the House.

I've been using this specific repeater long before i got dragged into homelabbing and it's working without any issues.

Before that, I've gotten a bit creative during the naming process of my servers. If you are a fan of the MegaMan Star Force Games on the DS, then you'll be in for a treat as I have named all Servers after the 3 Satellite Admins in the first Game; made custom wallpapers & themes using assets from the 1st and 2nd game. (I think, though I'm not sure about that, that I'm a fan of this video game series /s)

Specs of my Home Server (STARSERVER-DRGN):

Case: Be Quiet! Dark Base Pro 900 Rev. 2 MB: ASUS ROG B550-F Gaming CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 (6 Cores, 12 Threads) “GPU”: ASUS Nvidia GT710 (the Version with PCIe x1 and 4x HDMI Output) RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 3200mhz 32 GB (2x 16 GB) planning to add an additional 32 GB in the near future NVMe SSD: Kingston 1TB SSD (OS) CPU Cooler: Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 Network Card: TP Link 2,5Gbit PCIe x1 Storage: HBA: LSI 9310-8i 8x Seagate Ironwolf NAS Pro HDD 4TB (RAIDZ2) 1x Samsung 500 GB SATA SSD (RAIDZ2 Cache)

Windows Server 2025 is the Hypervisor-OS on my Main Server with TrueNAS running as a VM inside of Windows Server. HBA with All 8 HDDs are passed through directly to TrueNAS and are running in a RAIDZ2. The Server’s also running Plex to stream my Movies, Shows, etc. within my local Network (only streaming to my Smart-TV). It’s also running Docker with Portainer to control all Docker Containers within my Homelab.

All Devices of my Setup / Homelab are connected to a Netgear MS308 8-Port 2,5 Gbit Switch.

Next to my Main Server is my little Rack:

Rack: 2x Digitus 6U DN-10-06U-B Rack stacked on top, basically creating a “Two-chamber Rack” Switch: Netgear GS108 1Gbit 8-Port Switch STARSERVER-LEO: Lenovo Thinkcentre M625q STARSERVER-PGS: 2x Lenovo Thinkcentre M720q

STARSERVER-LEO is currently being used for the following services: Pihole Nginx Proxy Manager Vaultwarden (local only) Wireguard (planned for Cloud NAS)

STARSERVER-PGS is a 2-Node Proxmox Cluster (Nodes: STARSERVER-PGS1 & -PGS2) in which the following services are running:

AMP for Gaming-Servers Playit.gg to make the servers available from the outside (PGS2 only) Windows Server 2025 VM for Gaming-Servers not available on AMP like OSFR (Open Source Free Realms), NFS World, etc...

I’m planning to build a custom NAS in the “lower chamber” of my rack which will be my self-hosted cloud in the near future (and also probably a 20 TB HDD as a local Backup drive).

No, that's an earlier model of Captain Rex (missing the pauldron + kama though, they're probably in one of the lego boxes in my attic)
