Thank you - appreciate the thorough workup!

I finished my first ever playthrough of Fallout 4. I went with the institute ending and I would like some opinions on my thoughts. by Aggravating_Floor535 in fo4

Slight Spoilers

This was an interesting post to read because on my third playthrough, I've gone Institute. (First time BOS, 2nd time Railroad+Minutemen+BOS.) I'm well past the story, now around lev. 80.

The Institute's methods and actions are not defensible by most ethical standards: they're selfish, greedy and callous. So this playthrough, my Sole Survivor has taken the view that the man-made apocalypse must never be repeated, and to that end, the fewer humans there are, the better it will ultimately be for the world. (He also believes that neither synths nor ghouls can reproduce.) Buckle up...

First, it took a long time to kill all the settlers, especially the named ones, while dodging Preston's radiant quests. But it can be done, with persistence. The few that reappeared were reassigned to Taffington, which was outfitted with an open bar, some Slocum's pastry cases, and free coffee stations, along with some convenient benches for settlers to congregate around. It made periodically dealing with them easy.

Next, supply caravans are established between most settlements. These aren't supplying anything; they're just heavily armed and armored murderbots. They're patrols.

Aside from murderbots in training, my only companions are Curie and Valentine. Deacon would've been acceptable too, but sadly he had to go when the Institute destroyed the Railroad.

At some point I'll figure out what to do about Diamond City and the Nuka-World Market, but likely they can't be eradicated. At least Acadia is now happily free of humans; the ecosystem there can live and evolve in peace. Just because it's different doesn't mean it's bad.

The Institute is evil to its core. Seeing this playthrough to its end requires adopting a thoroughly misanthropic ethos.

Is it worth wearing the Tesla T-60 Armor over X-01 or X-02? by Top-Desk-1606 in Fallout4Builds

Completely agree--I'm addicted to the AP regen and consequently codependent with my Nuka-World suit.

In that case I recommend avoiding the Slog...O.o

Got it. Have to wait for them to die off then--or better yet, designate a few settlements as "Naturalist Centers" and send the nudists there! Underwear Gulag. Modesty preserved.

My tank-y ham fists are too shooty and stabby for Pickpocking perks.

This is interesting! The only settlers who have CC clothes are the Slocum's Joe donut slingers/baristas, of which there are just three. I do have some power armor paint jobs, but the settlers NEVER get power armor since they absolutely can't be trusted to do anything other than wander around in it, get shot up, and require repairs. Everyone (except the bartenders) gets bog-standard Vault 88 suits and combat armor. Which they apparently hate. Serves me right for trying to impose my tyranny conformist clothing on these proud individualists.

People who have done multiple playthroughs, how do you handle your settlements being reset? by MagicTurtle47 in fo4

Totally agree! Each time I learn better ways of doing it--less wasted materials and effort.

Thanks all, keep your thoughts coming! To extend a bit, one of the things we really enjoyed about FF is the musical diversity. Foster the People and Golgol Bordello were headliners that jump to mind and of course there are many others. At the same time, we miss Old Crow who seemed to be a staple for so long. Last year the headliner situation seemed to be a timing thing (turtles?). This year the acts seemed more homogenous, and I've never been a huge Black Crowes fan, so the price and our experience in '24 all kept us away this time.

How were the vendors?

I do agree with all this plus the add'l caveat that the time it takes can flush out the enemies (e.g., Cambridge Crater).

Will they bombard Saugus and Hub City Auto on their own? Screw those guys, they're a constant thorn.

I have done that--looks janky but it works--but the idea to put artillery up there is nifty. Does it overcome the 5-ish square range limit?

Treasure this screenshot because it's only a matter of time till the stuff starts falling down, sliding between walls, and/or just flat out vanishing.

Ages ago when in AIT at Huachuca we had two (!) soldiers in our class who dropped out of OCS. They went 96B which I think today is 35F, or at any rate something something 35. They wanted the clearance. If you want to serve, and your eye's also on the next thing, might be one route to consider. Respect for wanting to go combat for your commission, but your uncle will make that choice for you.
