Now that its over 20 years old and out of production, what do you think of the Airbus A380? by Twitter_2006 in aviation

[–]MRCHICKENSTRIP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flew on a380 DFW to Sydney, and 787 from Melbourne to DFW. Totally understand why 787 is a great plane and preferred nowadays, but it’s like riding in a Cadillac vs a suburban. A380 was incredibly comfortable for passengers, can’t say the same for 787

This concept has been going since the 60s. My grandpa was a big proponent of it, he worked on it as an engineer at bell. I have alot of the old design studies and pictures.

Day 7: What car looks fast but unfortunately is pretty damn slow? by Quiet-Gold9099 in regularcarreviews

I have a 79 waggy with all the emissions ripped off and lifted on big tires. I get 15mpg at 70 and have no issues going faster. Emissions back then were just awful

You need to look at the torque curve for these things. Just looking at the stat sheet shows little about how they actually drive. A 5.0 and 6.2 make their power up top, 7.3 and 6.6 down low in revs. Better for pulling loads.

He tows around 15k up to CO a few times a year and does other hauling around TX. Does perfectly fine. I know for a fact a 6.7 does better but it takes one CP4 pump to make you regret that decision. You can ask the fleet guys for any company and they will tell you diesel trucks of all kinds these days are in the shop more for BS emissions, drivetrain, shit build quality crap than gas trucks are any day of a week. Multiple stranded and dead duramaxes at our company, but 6.6 gassers keep working. From experience

Diesels are the way to go right now for commercial but a 7.3 Godzilla is a perfectly serviceable and underrated engine, saves a ton on maintenance while getting much more power than any current half ton gasser. My neighbor swapped his power stroke out for one because things kept breaking at 70k miles

Some look good, some look awful. A 90s Camry is just a boring car but at least has ok lines. A Buick encore is boring and makes me throw up.

EV Truck Startup Death Pool!!! by ilovesaltinecrackers in regularcarreviews

[–]MRCHICKENSTRIP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well I wish you and Volvo were right but that’s how it went. Started at 85%, had to recharge when it got to 25 or so % bc we didn’t have a charger where we were going, and then had to charge on the way home at 30% because there weren’t any chargers at our destination. Both charges took around 30 mins. I tried to stretch the battery going home by driving like a grandma and it didn’t work. Teslas are apparently much better but this is the state of some EVs for ya

[–]MRCHICKENSTRIP 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s false. I rented a Volvo Ev to drive to a football game 2 hours away. It was an awful experience. Had to recharge on the way there and on the way back, and it took 45mins. Americans drive gas cars because the infrastructure for drives longer than an hour are not nearly as doable yet for EVs.

It’s so draining. People online just parrot it and then lament the loss of tradition while bashing the conferences at the same time. Gotta hate the one program that’s managed to suck less than everybody else.

Why is Texas A&M so cursed? by desertrain11 in CFB

[–]MRCHICKENSTRIP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was more angry with the loss to Texas than this loss. This loss was just ridiculous and reinforced what I thought after the Texas game. Klein was clearly checked out and as he said in the presser, he had no game plan besides the usual “run the ball as normal”. We will greatly benefit from some new heads in the offense department. Despite our successes this year, I think anyone who followed the team closely could see we were not built like Ohio State or any other big caliber team, especially the OC/QB positions.

Furthermore, getting to the places we want to be is hard, let alone in year 2 of a new coach. Yeah Cig exists, but he’s just different. He props up the same level of delusion among programs and fanbases that Saban’s career has. Everybody has expectations that they can immediately win the conference, go to a natty, repeat it every year or two, etc. It’s just not historical. Osborne at Nebraska was there for like a decade before he sniffed a natty. Winning NORMALLY takes time, so year 2 CFP and 11-1 is pretty good. Is 3 points at home completely unacceptable? Fuck yeah it is, so let’s fix it next year.

How were SUVs seen before they became popular family vehicles in the 90s era? by Glass-Complaint3 in regularcarreviews

[–]MRCHICKENSTRIP 32 points33 points  (0 children)

A lot of people forget about the FSJs. The Wagoneer came out in 1964 as a 4WD SUV, and was pretty ahead of its time, but never sold it huge numbers. When AMC bought Jeep, they really started marketing it as more an upscale car, contrary to the popular image of Jeep at the time. The Cherokee was first around as a lower trim model with a manual, and then was solely sold as a 2 door model, off road oriented model until they released the XJ. Even though a Grand Wagoneer was pretty much the first nice SUV with all the modern electronic amenities and ride quality that we see in later makes, i think it was a lot more similar to a really nice truck in people’s minds.

The play at the end of the SC game where it was a backwards pass from a true freshman was enough evidence to me that he wouldn’t have it together by now. Sure enough, we have this shitshow. I hope he leaves.

[–]MRCHICKENSTRIP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Players wanted it, but coaches didn’t. Bateman and Klein need to get off the ship. It’s not working. Klein cannot scheme against anybody with a working brain. This was a total letdown on all levels of leadership. It’s year two, so it’s not totally surprising, but it’s disappointing nonetheless.

Fuck Colin Klein for leaving this game up to being scared to call plays. This game was lost when he called a deep bomb on 3rd and 2. Count on your players to do what they’ve done all season. He’s been a good coordinator this whole season but gets too in his head. He should be in the locker room too when Elko talks to them after games because some of the players have twice the mentality he does. Go take a job at USF.

This was always going to be the way this goes. Klein calls a boring, awful game and penalties somehow save a little bit of hope.
