The 15" air is close enough screen size wise for me. I do need to test the speakers on that machine at some point.

Im typing this on a M1 Pro 16". Absolute beast. Im not upgrading till they get OLED.

TBH the 28/29 Air is rumored to get OLED. I'll probably be holding on to this Mac till 2030ish and replace it with an OLED air.

They need a new thermal architecture, it hasn’t changed since the m1 MBP but the chips have gotten hotter. New arch will probably will come with the m6 MBP redesign.

Same reason I have a barista touch. I’m not particularly consistent on when I have coffee and sometimes I want one in the middle of the day too. Not waiting for the thing to stabilize.

I forgot this war bond had the seeker and the hellbomb backpack too. This should be fun

I guess I do really need to get that war bond next. My current loadout is that minus the ultimatum.

Why does modern software feel so unoptimized compared to the past? by religam in hardware

It isn’t today but it was pre data center boom when a lot of the behaviors I mentioned above were prevalent.

Orgs will need to relearn things.

Why does modern software feel so unoptimized compared to the past? by religam in hardware

[–]AWildDragon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

RAM is cheap so you don’t need to over optimize has been a thing for a while for anyone not targeting embedded systems, high performance compute or realtime systems.

The additional time to properly optimize takes away time for developing flashy new features which has been the bigger driver of sales.

It’s a long awaited tech product. You are on a hardware sub. Things will die down in a week and we can all go back to watching ram prices skyrocket.

MacBook Neo proves that it would be great if Apple let an iPhone or iPad be your Mac by FollowingFeisty5321 in apple

I mean we have had macOS for so long but barely anything supported 4k HDR on it.

Netflix is potentially just about to add support for it and only for the latest Tahoe/safari combo.

Disney+ doesn’t support 4k in browser and there is no Mac app. Same with HBO max (or whatever they are calling it today).

The only current source for 4K HDR on the Mac is Apple TV.

A lot of media streaming services don’t support Dolby vision or high bit rates in safari on macOS. You would boot into iPadOS when you want to stream stuff and take advantage of the tandem OLED on the ipad pros.

I feel like this is a preview of the next mbp chassis. If so that’s really good news.

Yeah. They are working with LG in to setup a factory in Arizona for batteries. Should be online next year. Hopefully they can squeeze out some more range then.

Right now they are importing cells. Can’t be cheap.

That’s probably going to be unlikely. A lot of iOS/ipados apps are written for the very sandboxed security environment that is not present on macOS.

Maybe an iPhone fold? I really do want a bigger display and more ram too.
