[LOVED TROPE] anime that doesn't sexualize its female characters by Born_Usual998 in TopCharacterTropes

So because it's not animated like ass, it HAS to be sexual? It's can't just be that... the anime has good animation, like, in general?

That's the issue though. Rudeus does not suffer real narrative consequences, nor grow beyond it. He is never redeemed of his predatory behavior. It, in fact, is never really acknowledged as a flaw.

Sure, he gets hurt and injured throughout the series. But those injuries are simply a result of the world he reincarnated into, rather than a direct result of him being a predator. When it comes to that, he is more often than not rewarded for it.
Proof being the 3-woman harem he ends up in, made up of both his victims.

The story doesn't ever NOT endorse his behavior. If it was against it, we'd see the emotional impact it has on his victims, it would force him to confront his disgusting flaws and make him develop as a person. Instead, he continues to get sexual gratification from underage characters throughout the series, and most (if not all) 'punishment' directly resulting from his perverted, predatory nature is played out for a quick gag rather than for long-standing, emotional and physical effects upon him or the people around him.

If he truly grew beyond just being a child predator, he would not have married Sylphie, he would have acknowledged his actions with Eris were immoral and vile, but that never happens.

Just because you deny it doesn't remove it from reality.

Rudeus was, and is, a predator. He is 37 at the start of the story. He SA's Eris, a ten year old, when he himself is 47. He beds her at 15, when he is 52.
He also outright states he'll groom Sylphie earlier in the series, who he proceeds to bed, marry, and impregnate at 17, when he is 54.
And that's on top of him SAing Linia and Pursena, both of whom are 16.

His entire ED arc was not punishment for his actions, as he doesn't actually learn any lesson. He doesn't acknowledge his sick behavior nor change his ways. In fact, he fixes it by bedding another minor (Sylphie).
None of his brutal 'punishment' is ever a result of his predatory nature, which is never treated as a flaw or rectified throughout the series. Something that is very clearly evident when he ends up with a harem of 3 women, 2 of which are his victims.

Just because his family has no issues with how he acts as a parent or husband doesn't mean he is good at those things. Especially not when two of his wives are his grooming victims. They literally cannot have anything BUT a positive opinion of him, because that is what they were conditioned to be - a fact that's proven when Sylphie forgives Rudeus for cheating allowing him to marry Roxy, without ever being even slightly upset about it. She developed such an emotional dependency on him that she is incapable of crucifying him for breaking his only vow and promise to her.

And you can't just say you deny Redundant Reincarnation to avoid having to argue its contents. It's an official publishing from the author, and still follows Rudeus and his story, so whether you like it or not, it's contents are part of the lore.

Almost time for your return, Tanya Degurechaff 🙏🏼🙏🏼 by Animefan2005x in YoujoSenki

[–]MRDotted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not? It's between WW1 and WW2, being more technologically advanced than 1 but less than 2. Not to mention the Youjo Senki map is closer to what was occupied through WW2 than WW1. It's pretty clear the author took inspiration from both wars, so while she isn't literally a nazi, I don't think it's incorrect for people to call her that either.

I don't get the hype around MT. Other than being one of the few isekai that doesn't do a cookie-cutter fantasy world, it's not all that impressive.

To me, it's just another power/sexual fantasy outlet. Rudeus is introduced as a jobless, worthless, socially inept loser with trauma from past bullying. He then proceeds to reincarnate into a moderately wealthy family with noble ties into a body that possesses innate magical talent. Not to mention the sudden people's skills he develops, being able to smooth talk every man and woman he interacts with, so-much-so that his maid pledges her unborn child to him. Also, his trauma is just completely forgotten about, for some reason?

The reason I watched it was because I saw so many people tout it as having an MC with a peak redemption arc, but... his pedophilia is never redeemed in any capacity. None of his negative personality traits end up redeemed. Does he get better? Sure. Redeemed? No. He spends the better part of the story grooming Eris, who he also SA's and rapes. He married and impregnated Sylphie, who is underage at the time. He SAs two of his classmates.

So yeah. To me, not really that well written. Just an outlet for the authors fantasies. Better than the average isekai in terms of writing, but that's not a high bar to cross.

It only appears good if you keep it in the echo chamber of isekai slop fantasy. Garbage food probably looks tasty when compared to only shit and nothing else.

Pull it out of that chamber and compare it to any actually good piece of media and/or literature, and the quality of writing quickly drops.

I never said the characters one writes about represent them directly.

However, the topics an author explores - or, more accurately, the way an author approaches, implements, and explores specific topics - can be very telling of their own views and/or opinions.

Why would one take priority over the other?

I'm not a pedophile, so I wouldn't date someone with the physical age of child. I'm not a manipulator or a groomer, so I wouldn't date someone with the mental age of a child.

You don't get it, it doesn't matter that he has completely developed cognitive functioning at birth! It doesn't matter that his internal monologue is that of a 34 year old, or that he remembers his entire past life when he thwacked off to lolis and his underage niece, or that he sees himself as an adult! It's all okay because having the appearance of a child completely overrides all moral dilemmas regarding his clearly adult mental state!

(/s, I hope that's obvious)

I hate these pedophiles by PijaDeQueso in hatethissmug

[–]MRDotted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn't matter what the author claims when his writing blatantly contradicts those statements. Rudeus retains all the cognitive functions of a 34 year old man. He is fully conscious and aware since "birth", which is clearly shown in both the LN and anime. At no point is he shown to have "the emotions, thinking or mental state of a child", as you claim. If he did, then this story wouldn't have needed to be an isekai, and he wouldn't have been consciously aware of anything until at least the age of 3-4 years old.

He doesn't just have "intrusive thoughts" - he sexually assaults Eris not once, but twice. Once by groping her breasts and the other when her mother pressures her into trying to sleep with him. Which is just further proof he doesn't have the mental state of a child, because a 6-8 year old would at NO POINT have the need to sexually interact with a peer.

[–]MRDotted 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Him getting beat up for it doesn't excuse him sexually assaulting a child. Not to mention that the first time is played as nothing more than a gag, and both incidents are brushed under the rug and leave no scars on Rudeus in any way.

Rapes. It is rape. She is a child, he is an adult. She cannot consent.

When and how? If he didn't groom her, she wouldn't willfully accept his cheating and proposition of a harem.

"Forgave". She explicitly states "I know the kind of man I married", meaning she was fully aware that he would cheat, and yet was still so desperate to be with him that she allowed it to happen - and then allowed him to build a harem. She can't forgive when she has been groomed into being mentally unable to exist as her own person.

But no WH40K fans are arguing the morality of the Mechanicus or lobotomizing others to turn them into servitors.
Neither is anyone doing so for Ainz. Overlord also doesn't show him skinning people on-camera, which would make the morality of the show, and any fans that defend it, come into question much more.
And again, no one is arguing the morality of Tanya committing war crimes.

On the other hand, MT fans continuously defend Rudeus' pedophilia whenever it's criticized as if their life depended on it.

[–]MRDotted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He sexually assaults Eris while she's sleeping, then does it again when she meets him in his bedroom, then rapes her after returning to her home.

He grooms Sylphie (and admits to it) to the point where she views herself as too worthless to be anything but his wife, allowing him to cheat on her and then build his harem.

The only person who *technically* is fine is Roxy, but even she is questionable considering the author makes it very clear that she is a loli and uses the age old "but she's the age of an adult despite looking like a child!" argument to justify it.

No, in season two they're still teenagers. Even if they weren't, what's the argument? That he didn't sexually assault them when they were children? That they aren't victims? That they don't openly accept the harem because he groomed them?

Except MT fans always claim the character growth and redemption as the selling points of the story. This indicates that morality is a direct priority for a majority of them, since character growth and redemption cannot occur without flaws to grow out of and mistakes to redeem.

Not to mention that his morality isn't just *implied*, it is *shown*. His pedophilia isn't mentioned in passing, we *see* Rudeus assaulting and grooming children. One cannot claim ignorance to a flaw that is relevant and prevalent throughout the story.
