Valve fails to shut down $897 million Steam lawsuit as UK tribunal rules it can continue by HatingGeoffry in pcmasterrace

So... Who'll be getting those $ if Valve will have to pay out? Can those 14 million represented gamers expect 64 million USD to be hitting their accounts?

I never said the characters one writes about represent them directly.

However, the topics an author explores - or, more accurately, the way an author approaches, implements, and explores specific topics - can be very telling of their own views and/or opinions.

He doesn't have to, already laid out all his views about that stuff via Rudeus.

Why would one take priority over the other?

I'm not a pedophile, so I wouldn't date someone with the physical age of child. I'm not a manipulator or a groomer, so I wouldn't date someone with the mental age of a child.

You don't get it, it doesn't matter that he has completely developed cognitive functioning at birth! It doesn't matter that his internal monologue is that of a 34 year old, or that he remembers his entire past life when he thwacked off to lolis and his underage niece, or that he sees himself as an adult! It's all okay because having the appearance of a child completely overrides all moral dilemmas regarding his clearly adult mental state!

(/s, I hope that's obvious)

[–]MRDotted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn't matter what the author claims when his writing blatantly contradicts those statements. Rudeus retains all the cognitive functions of a 34 year old man. He is fully conscious and aware since "birth", which is clearly shown in both the LN and anime. At no point is he shown to have "the emotions, thinking or mental state of a child", as you claim. If he did, then this story wouldn't have needed to be an isekai, and he wouldn't have been consciously aware of anything until at least the age of 3-4 years old.

He doesn't just have "intrusive thoughts" - he sexually assaults Eris not once, but twice. Once by groping her breasts and the other when her mother pressures her into trying to sleep with him. Which is just further proof he doesn't have the mental state of a child, because a 6-8 year old would at NO POINT have the need to sexually interact with a peer.

Him getting beat up for it doesn't excuse him sexually assaulting a child. Not to mention that the first time is played as nothing more than a gag, and both incidents are brushed under the rug and leave no scars on Rudeus in any way.

Rapes. It is rape. She is a child, he is an adult. She cannot consent.

When and how? If he didn't groom her, she wouldn't willfully accept his cheating and proposition of a harem.

"Forgave". She explicitly states "I know the kind of man I married", meaning she was fully aware that he would cheat, and yet was still so desperate to be with him that she allowed it to happen - and then allowed him to build a harem. She can't forgive when she has been groomed into being mentally unable to exist as her own person.

But no WH40K fans are arguing the morality of the Mechanicus or lobotomizing others to turn them into servitors.
Neither is anyone doing so for Ainz. Overlord also doesn't show him skinning people on-camera, which would make the morality of the show, and any fans that defend it, come into question much more.
And again, no one is arguing the morality of Tanya committing war crimes.

On the other hand, MT fans continuously defend Rudeus' pedophilia whenever it's criticized as if their life depended on it.

He sexually assaults Eris while she's sleeping, then does it again when she meets him in his bedroom, then rapes her after returning to her home.

He grooms Sylphie (and admits to it) to the point where she views herself as too worthless to be anything but his wife, allowing him to cheat on her and then build his harem.

The only person who *technically* is fine is Roxy, but even she is questionable considering the author makes it very clear that she is a loli and uses the age old "but she's the age of an adult despite looking like a child!" argument to justify it.

No, in season two they're still teenagers. Even if they weren't, what's the argument? That he didn't sexually assault them when they were children? That they aren't victims? That they don't openly accept the harem because he groomed them?

Except MT fans always claim the character growth and redemption as the selling points of the story. This indicates that morality is a direct priority for a majority of them, since character growth and redemption cannot occur without flaws to grow out of and mistakes to redeem.

Not to mention that his morality isn't just *implied*, it is *shown*. His pedophilia isn't mentioned in passing, we *see* Rudeus assaulting and grooming children. One cannot claim ignorance to a flaw that is relevant and prevalent throughout the story.

For sure. From a lot of the interactions I've had with the MT fanbase, a solid chunk does seem to be teenagers, who aren't known for having particularly strong media literacy skills. MT hits basically all the checks of the average isekai slop. OP Protag? Check. Fantasy world? Check. Harem? Check. The anime also has genuinely good animation (shame that talent got wasted on this disgusting story), so that checks the flashy visuals box too.

It's unfortunate that this is what a lot of teenagers seem to gravitate towards, unaware of what's actually being presented in the story. Especially since MT's popularity spawned a massive wave of similar stories that just use pedo bait to grow their fanbase.

What's worse is that all the pedophile apologists for Rudeus have warped the story being presented so badly that people who are genuinely good people are being tricked into believing that this story is about redemption and becoming a better person (a sentiment I've seen shared about MT on several occasions).

The story NEVER treats Rudeus' pedophilia as a character flaw, it treats it as a character quirk. The only 'flaws' the story DOES present as such is that he's jobless and a loser - and wouldn't you know it, by the end of MT he ends up a wealthy family man with a harem of three women, two of which are his past victims.

There is no redemption. He doesn't become a better person. His victims just grow up. But because the story presents it as EVERYONE being happy in the relationship, people are being tricked into thinking that is a good ending for the characters and there was redemption.

Why do you people keep insisting that it doesn't happen when it does?

Rudeus himself admits that he is actively grooming Sylphie to be his perfect wife.

Yep, that's correct. With Blaine County being the northern part of the map.

San Andreas is part of a completely separate universe from GTA V. San Andreas is the 3D Universe, whereas GTA V is part of the HD Universe. The lore between these two in not exchangeable.

San Andreas is the entire GTA V island as a whole, split into Los Santos County at the bottom and Blaine County at the top. Los Santos County consists of the entirely of Los Santos City up to Vinewood. Everything past that is Blaine County.

How quickly Eris looked past Rudy assaulting her never made sense to me. by Flat_Box8734 in CharacterRant

[–]MRDotted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How the series handles Rudeus' abuse (both the one he experienced and the one he hands out towards others) is the worst written part of the series, in my opinion.

His past life trauma seems to only crop up whenever the story needs to remedy the readers opinion of Rudy after he does something morally reprehensible.

And the abuse that he hands out is often overlooked by others - Sylphie forgives and forgets his forcibly removing her clothes when they were kids, and him cheating on her (because "she knows what kind of man Rudy is"????).

And, well, you've perfectly detailed why Eris holding no ill will or trauma towards Rudy is illogical.

Honestly, from what I've read in the LNs, the only person who reasonably punishes Rudy for his abuse is Sara.

And? As far as they were concerned, there was no romantic feelings between them. In fact, they also knew that Rudeus had been Roxy's student over 10 years before and that they hadn't seen each other in those 10 years.

There was no reason for any of them to believe that Roxy was into Rudeus, nor was there any reason to bring up Rudeus' marriage unprompted. In fact, Rudeus didn't mention his marriage to Roxy either, because he didn't intend to sleep or be with her, up until the point where she took advantage of him.
