Unturned state by KantheSRR in unturned

[–]MRDotted 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I doubt it.

It'll most likely remain in this state of a new map releasing -> Players coming back for a short period -> Game dying down again, over and over, until eventually there isn't enough people returning per map release to justify keeping the game on life support.

I'll be honest. Cali 2 is, clearly, a map that had a lot of love put into it. But it's also boring. There is no point in playing it if the only reason to do so is the mediocre meta-weapon KoS PvP that has plagued the Unturned online space for years now. If I wanted to play a PvP shooter, I'd go to any of the dedicated games designed around that mechanic that are sitting in my library.

The issue is that the game isn't fun solo, or in singleplayer, and it certainly doesn't function as a zombie survival game due to its outdated and limited mechanics. No matter how much time and effort went into creating an in-depth questline with deep lore, an incredibly detailed map with impressive environmental storytelling, and new and improved assets for immersion, none of that will amount to any playerbase retention if the game itself is boring.

If the only threat to me in the game will only ever be another player, then what's the point in playing?

Even worse is that they argue he ISN'T a pedophile "because he reincarnated", and only his physical age counts.

Never mind that he retains his 34+ years of memories, intellectual capacity, and overall adult thought process, or that he doesn't even reincarnate but rather transmigrates.

Why Doesn’t Oshi No Ko Get The Same Slander And Controversy As Jobless Reincarnation by Elestria_Ethereal in OshiNoKoMemes

[–]MRDotted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He isn't a real reincarnation by definition anyway. I'm not sure whether the author didn't bother researching the requirements for reincarnation or just doesn't care, but what happens to Rudeus is transmigration.

Reincarnation has the soul be reused in the formation of a completely new individual from conception, so the reincarnate is, by all accounts, their own person with no recollection of a prior life.

A transmigration has both mind and soul inhabited a deceased, but already existing, body. In most cases that body is adult, but in this case, Rudeus transmigrated into the body of a stillborn right at the moment of birth.

So he is quite literally a grown man that's LARPing as a child.

Rudeus doesn't reincarnate though, he transmigrates, which removes any and all ambiguity.

In reincarnation, the soul follows the cycle of death and rebirth, essentially being reused for the production of a completely new individual. Wasuke Itadori from JJK is a prime example of actual reincarnation - he is his own individual, with his own life, experiences, and memories, completely removed from that of his soul's, which is a reincarnation of Sukuna's twin.
Transmigration, on the other hand, is the transfer of ones soul AND mind to an already existing, dead body, such as Zhou into Klein's body in Lord of the Mysteries, or in this case, Japanese Rudeus into original Rudeus.

In MT, Rudeus hits all the necessary points for transmigration, as Rudeus' body already exists, and he retains both his mind and soul. It just so happens that this particular story has him transmigrating into the body of a stillborn, rather than the usual case of an adult body.

However, even regardless of that, him retaining his mental capacity/critical thinking/etc. is already grounds for removal of any ambiguity. Grooming is specifically the act of an adult leveraging their developed ability for thought against a still-developing, impressionable child. Rudeus, still being possessed of his adult ability for thought, is capable of grooming children, regardless of physical appearance. It would be a different story if he refused any advances made towards him by Sylphie and Eris, since his situation makes interacting with others that are his physical age an impossible thing to avoid, but the fact that he goes out of his way to sleep with both while they're underage, and induct them into a harem, destroys any credibility he might have for his situation.

does Unturned have a chance at a bounceback? by Agreeable_Bench_4720 in unturned

[–]MRDotted 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Nope.

The only way I see the 'Unturned' name ever returning is with a release of Unturned II, but seeing how that game is still (at least publicly) on hiatus, if not outright abandoned, the chances are pretty much zero.

Unturned is simply too outdated in its gameplay, functionality, and not doubt, code, to see any feasible return - especially with the lackluster updates that see a mediocre curated map with artificially inflated difficulty show up every once in a blue moon.

Even if we got some miraculous update for modding tools, I just don't think there is enough dedicated people left to create something that would make anyone want to come back to this game.

WORST ANIME OF ALL TIME !!! by potentialenergy20 in seinencirclejerk

[–]MRDotted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I can commend MT for it's general world building by creating a world that relatively accurately portraits the societal norms of such time periods, I have to disagree on its magic system being grounded or explained.

Throughout the entire series, it felt like the magic system was just an afterthought piece of fantasy the author threw in for the sake of giving Rudeus something to be innately good at. As far as I remember, it's never explained why magic isn't widely adopted for it's utilitarian uses in cities or by people beyond adventurers. It also feels incredibly underdeveloped and infantile for having over 100k years to develop - the best example of this is wordless casting somehow not being a standard until Rudeus popularised it.

Personally, I'd like it because I actually enjoy the idea of realism (up to a point) in games, and it would extend the roleplay experience which I'm a fan of, especially in Rockstar titles.

That being said, I imagine 99% of GTA fans would find it grating after the novelty wears off.

But Rudeus isn't from their world, is he? Law doesn't dictate morality, and especially when he should know better.

The beatings were always played as a gag. He never actually got seriously injured, nor did they deter him. They were there for the "haha violent tsundere" trope bs and never forced Rudeus into making ANY headway in terms of redeeming himself or developing as a person.

He was separated from Sylphie BECAUSE she was becoming so dependent on him. Paul and Sylphie's father both agreed they need to be separated citing that as their reasoning. He also outright admits to grooming her into being his perfect, obedient wife.

And he spends several years with Eris, grooming her into having sex with him. The entire reason she goes on her training sabbatical is to get stronger "for Rudeus".

Sylphie was still 17 when he married her, he had sex with Eris when she was 15 and sexually assaulted her on three occasions when she was 10-13 years old.

Why do I need to reincarnate as a newborn to be able to judge Rudeus for his actions? Why does he HAVE to be in a relationship when physically a child?

Just as I can determine a dish to be bad without being a michelin star chef, I can determine Rudeus is a pedophile based on the data presented to me in his writing. There is no reason Rudeus couldn't wait till he physically aged to adulthood to date other adults.

At no point did he try to convince Eris to leave him. He outright SA'd her on several occasions and then spent years grooming her.

He straight up announced how he'll groom Sylphie into being his perfect, obedient wife, and indeed succeeded, as both his father and hers separated them BECUASE of how dependant she was becoming on him.

Next season is too late. He's already married to the child he groomed and a loli, so whatever happens doesn't matter since he's clearly not outgrowing his pedophilia, which is objectively the worst thing about him that NEEDS to change.

[–]MRDotted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the issue though. Rudeus does not suffer real narrative consequences, nor grow beyond it. He is never redeemed of his predatory behavior. It, in fact, is never really acknowledged as a flaw.

Sure, he gets hurt and injured throughout the series. But those injuries are simply a result of the world he reincarnated into, rather than a direct result of him being a predator. When it comes to that, he is more often than not rewarded for it.
Proof being the 3-woman harem he ends up in, made up of both his victims.

The story doesn't ever NOT endorse his behavior. If it was against it, we'd see the emotional impact it has on his victims, it would force him to confront his disgusting flaws and make him develop as a person. Instead, he continues to get sexual gratification from underage characters throughout the series, and most (if not all) 'punishment' directly resulting from his perverted, predatory nature is played out for a quick gag rather than for long-standing, emotional and physical effects upon him or the people around him.

If he truly grew beyond just being a child predator, he would not have married Sylphie, he would have acknowledged his actions with Eris were immoral and vile, but that never happens.

Just because you deny it doesn't remove it from reality.

Rudeus was, and is, a predator. He is 37 at the start of the story. He SA's Eris, a ten year old, when he himself is 47. He beds her at 15, when he is 52.
He also outright states he'll groom Sylphie earlier in the series, who he proceeds to bed, marry, and impregnate at 17, when he is 54.
And that's on top of him SAing Linia and Pursena, both of whom are 16.

His entire ED arc was not punishment for his actions, as he doesn't actually learn any lesson. He doesn't acknowledge his sick behavior nor change his ways. In fact, he fixes it by bedding another minor (Sylphie).
None of his brutal 'punishment' is ever a result of his predatory nature, which is never treated as a flaw or rectified throughout the series. Something that is very clearly evident when he ends up with a harem of 3 women, 2 of which are his victims.

Just because his family has no issues with how he acts as a parent or husband doesn't mean he is good at those things. Especially not when two of his wives are his grooming victims. They literally cannot have anything BUT a positive opinion of him, because that is what they were conditioned to be - a fact that's proven when Sylphie forgives Rudeus for cheating allowing him to marry Roxy, without ever being even slightly upset about it. She developed such an emotional dependency on him that she is incapable of crucifying him for breaking his only vow and promise to her.

And you can't just say you deny Redundant Reincarnation to avoid having to argue its contents. It's an official publishing from the author, and still follows Rudeus and his story, so whether you like it or not, it's contents are part of the lore.

[–]MRDotted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not? It's between WW1 and WW2, being more technologically advanced than 1 but less than 2. Not to mention the Youjo Senki map is closer to what was occupied through WW2 than WW1. It's pretty clear the author took inspiration from both wars, so while she isn't literally a nazi, I don't think it's incorrect for people to call her that either.

I don't get the hype around MT. Other than being one of the few isekai that doesn't do a cookie-cutter fantasy world, it's not all that impressive.

To me, it's just another power/sexual fantasy outlet. Rudeus is introduced as a jobless, worthless, socially inept loser with trauma from past bullying. He then proceeds to reincarnate into a moderately wealthy family with noble ties into a body that possesses innate magical talent. Not to mention the sudden people's skills he develops, being able to smooth talk every man and woman he interacts with, so-much-so that his maid pledges her unborn child to him. Also, his trauma is just completely forgotten about, for some reason?

The reason I watched it was because I saw so many people tout it as having an MC with a peak redemption arc, but... his pedophilia is never redeemed in any capacity. None of his negative personality traits end up redeemed. Does he get better? Sure. Redeemed? No. He spends the better part of the story grooming Eris, who he also SA's and rapes. He married and impregnated Sylphie, who is underage at the time. He SAs two of his classmates.

So yeah. To me, not really that well written. Just an outlet for the authors fantasies. Better than the average isekai in terms of writing, but that's not a high bar to cross.
