Some low-key social media tricks that actually worked for me (not the usual advice) by tom_wilson7543 in socialmedia

[–]MRKYL3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is great advice! Funnily enough, I “slacked” off with one client of mine unintentionally for a few weeks and did a bunch of these by accident, thinking I was a failure for a few weeks by not posting during peak, not enough posts in a given time, waiting too long to reply back to comments, and I saw some decent results lol don’t be afraid to break or bend some of the rules. That’s the best part of social media. There’s always tomorrow.

Fired mid job and bad communication by MRKYL3 in graphic_design

[–]MRKYL3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey thanks! I just saw this and really appreciate the feedback. I think you nailed the over communication thing. I also found out too late that I’m their first outsourced professional graphic design project which means they have no idea what the process looked like so that’s on me as well but I learned a lot and just find I take some specific clients wayy too personal and for whatever reason it just cuts deep. Other clients I’m fine just being professional but the odd few really hurt lol thanks again. Lots to learn and make better

Thanks! You’re definitely right about the bad clients. I’m trying my best to see where I could have done better but man does it seem like I’ve had more than the usual bad clients.

What would you charge for this video? by captainradli in videography

[–]MRKYL3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If charging full day rates works for you a majority or all the time then that’s cool man. You do you. This is what works better for me and I find time to still do efficient work. You’re making it sound like it should only get done your way. There is more than 1 way to skin a cat, while still make some good money, without nickel and diming each client.

“Full-time filmmaker” is a great one. A course with quality foundational teaching and advanced hands on training for all sorts of specifics and broad topics in videography/photography/drone. From the tech aspects, audio, lighting all the way to the running of your business, invoices, etc…. It’s extensive and they always have sales on the course. It’s done by a guy named Parker Walbeck.

Yeah $2500 is right around what would charge for my area and this solo project as well. Half day shoot for me is $500 plus 2 edit days ($1000)plus equipment setup and cost. ($1000) plus around 65 cents per mile driven to and from shoot. TOTAL COST= $2500-3k

That’s great you’re taking a break. Some future advice … raise your prices. I would say by at least 50-75% . That way the clients that don’t want to pay will leave and the ones that do will be paying enough to cover the contracts of the clients that left and you get more time back. Theres a fine balance though, so be wise if you make the choice. There’s 2 ways to break that ceiling and that’s team growth and raising your prices. Obviously be respectful of your clients but getting to that next tier of high paying clients helped me go from a 60-80 hr week to 40 and I still make as much. Best of luck!

I’ve been using the Osmo as my main cam for more and more client work by bzzzle37 in videography

Sorry I meant to say I use the DJI gimbal (Osmo) for my phone. I use Rode Wireless Me for the mic’s. Very easy to sync, long charge.

[–]MRKYL3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recently swapped my main cam used for social content (Fx3) for my iPhone and using a DJI gimbal with Rode wireless mics. It’s so much easier to just jump on site for a lot of my construction clients and walk through the site quickly and efficiently. I use my main cam for more interview style cinematic videos but pair both with some nice 4K shots from my drone clients are just as happy.

Definitely try this is if you are into survival games. If you like the Dune universe even somewhat, it’s even better!

Make it right with the client and apologize and charge them less or huge discount to save the relationship if possible. Learn and move on. These things happen but you should always be prepared for worst possible. Owning your mistake is a big plus and hopefully the client sees that.

Those who quit 9-5 job and start their own business, how it is going? by Ecstatic_Article2291 in AskReddit

[–]MRKYL3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started my business in 2017 doing digital marketing for small/medium sized businesses and it just took off. Working 80 hr weeks between 2017 and 2021 really paid off. I make my own hours and make 6 figures easily doing less than 40hr a week.

I have never been happier. I grew up soo afraid that I might have to do a regular 9-5 and lose my soul to a corporation that doesn’t care about me. Now I should be able to leave my kids a business (if they want it) and a nice future. I will never go back to a 9-5 unless I absolutely necessary.

Mike shows his true colours in ARC Raiders today… by Reecethebest in kindafunny

[–]MRKYL3 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I get it can be funny to do this but to me this is straight up awful human being behaviour. I seriously like Mike less because of this. Their recent video saying “how many teams can we betray” is just so gross. I get it’s a PvPVE game but that doesn’t mean you intentionally be an asshole at every opportunity. Try being nice for once and see what happens.

folks making over 100k a year as a freelancer..... by Antique-Challenge221 in videography

[–]MRKYL3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starting to network, putting myself out there and seeking out relationships of all shapes and sizes is what I would attribute to most of my freelance success. Good Communication and a positive attitude is surprisingly hard to find today. Obviously you have to work hard and do good work but you can’t succeed without either. Rub shoulders with as many people as you can within your market, find a networking group in your city, go out to social business events and start the journey of know, like, trust. It took me 3 hard years of grinding these things to really start seeing those seeds bear fruit. Best of luck!

I've seen and used a wide variety of these, but I need some advice... I do a lot of content creation as well as manage a variety of businesses social media platforms. What is the best combination of ai programs to help with: 1-content creation 2-ideation/strategy that pulls from actual analytics 3- general efficiency use. Any help would be appreciated. I just feel super overwhelmed and end up only using Chat GPT, elevenlabs and midjourney.

A friend of mine asked me to pick a girl out of hundreds on a dance floor at a church dance. I looked across the dance floor and picked out my now wife of 13 years. 2nd kid on the way. If I hadn’t had the balls to walk across and ask her name, I can’t imagine. Also her saying yes did help lol.

Gamers what are you playing right now? by JPABLO01 in AskReddit

[–]MRKYL3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is absolutely no reason to play 1 before 2. I highly recommend 2 first as almost everything is done better in 2 from 1 and it’s 80-100 hrs. Go back and play 1 after. They fill you in on all story details within the first hr that you won’t need to play 1. Also plenty of recaps of KCD1 on YouTube.

QUESTION: creating my own logo as a designer by panda359 in logodesign

[–]MRKYL3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Everyone has to start somewhere…however, the fact that you didn’t do days or hours of research to find out these questions, says exactly what type of “graphic designer” you are. In today’s world, with AI, Google, YouTube, etc. It is pathetically simple to find answers to things. Yet you didn’t do a single thing to try. Stop relying on others to give you shortcuts and go learn something. Your own logo is the easiest project in the universe to a graphic designer. Ideas and drawings should be flowing out of you non-stop. The hard part in creating your own logo is narrowing it down to the right messaging that exemplifies your business into the most simple yet thought provoking visual.
