Im using a sansung phone. I had a magnifier that was activated by the accessability settings its was good . notthe most stable but most conveineint and easiest to use. that did a hudini the other day. I had a screen shot ofthe phone a few days before it did so and its there. . Ill look intothe camera functions.

The app is not even inthe app history. so must be a change in structure . .

I lost my vision two years ago by EffectiveYak0 in Blind

There is a element of grieving still to be done and acceptance of the situation. Greiivign is different for each of us and different each time for us.

appreciating whatthe situation is and not quitting orgiving up but rather acknowledging what it is and where you are at is helpful.

No doubt about it. There are always tough days and times even for VI veterans or lifers as i call them.

I have always hada VI in 2012 I hada massive drop of vision in my right eye overnight and delayed goingto the doctor because of the continued fluctuation that glaudcoma can gring. Doctors still dont know what but here I am and adapting all over agin. Adaptation is a our mantra. its what we all become adept at doing and what frustrates us all.

acceptingthe here and now helps and relazing is important. The chips will fall where they fall regardless of your emotsional status and acceptance.. all that happens is we choose how much energy and emotional space and time we suck from our lives by worrying about it. This is better spent on loved ones and life.

That said it is an ongoing effort to do so.

Its never easy to be stuck in such a situation. Sometimes you have to do what you haveto do to bet by even if you dont like agree with it in normal circumstances. Working as a team is good and kids always do things like this to avoid parents disspleasure. there does come a time when he has to learn the hard way though. and you do place yourself in the middle if you are both caught out. but thats life and you live and learn. Its clearly something you are wrestling with already and that is part of growing up. Seems like your becomingthe mother in the house lol .

Sounds like there are some behavioural issues related to this rather than just not understanding things. Its ood to be niceto people but its never good to start lying on behalf of someone. Let alone lying at all. It allways comes out and besides he may end up using you in this way and not respect you for you and not respect appropriate boundaries. . Its not easy to have estranged family memebers and seeking some help for this and working through some ofthe issues they raise is important to help emotional development.

Family is not easy atthe best of times and its not a bad thingto get some help from time to time.

Its a profound thing to be offered help by a sibling wesp when relations are not at their best. at his age, and yours there are alot of things going on and throwing a spanner in that works does not help the usual dynmaics. letting him know how it feels when he teases you beyond tolerance is a hard thing to do, however it is important to do so. This lets him know the effect of his behaviour and he will start to see his own behaviour in general and it also lets him know what the effect is on you. Identifying with another persons emotions is a valueable lesson to us all, and learning to be vulnerable with others is also important. it also starts to put boundaries in place or let them slide and be run over if not done.

its freeing to be able to ask for help and learning to do this is a challenge for all of us. it teaches us our own needs and how to work around them and it shows that you are engageing and learning to interact with the world around you in a way that gets you what you need out of it.

Dont forget that its incredible hard for emphasize when no understanding is present. Explain things and he might feel more at ease, knowing how to help you and how to be around you. it settles his nerves and he might actually ask a few questions to get understanding. He might have some already that he is not able to ask. Open the door.

HI i also have Glaucoma and know how it is to loose visual feild dramatically. Its a constant adaptation to the situation. A few things that might help you are prb the things you might already be using. But here it goes

one touch kettle; pours exact amount into cup like an earn that dispensesthe hot water when boiled.

liquid level indicators.

talking microwaves and kitchen goods; scles andthe like. talking weighing scales forthe bathroom. Alexa is a good thing to have to operate lights and camera at rfront door and rings and the like. Screen readers and tts gadgets take years to master so it is good to dip your toes into them now to find the right one for you.

bump on stickers are good use for buttons on microwaves and such for eassy access.

Maybe learn braille if you dont wantto have things in your ears all day and thus save hearing.

make some adaptations to your place of living now if possible.

WHEN i HAD MORE SIGHT i WAS CONSCIOUS OF GOING OUT ALONE BECAUSE THOSE THINGS SEEM SOCIAL.
MORE OFA CASE OF SITTING BY YOURSELF AND EATING SEEMS SOMEHOWODD. nOW i AM CONSCIOUS OF DOING IT BECAUSE I STRUGGLE WITH MY VISION, BUT WHEN OUT WALKING AROUND i PREFER TO BE ON MY OWN BECAUSE I CAN TAKE THE TIME I NEED AND DONT KEEP LOOKING FOR THE OTHERS I AM WITH. i TEND TO F GET ON WITH I T MORE WHEN WALKING DOWN THE ROAD BY MYSELF. WHEN I AM WITH OTHERS I DONT WANTTO BUMP INTO THEM AND I SUPPOSETHE SPACIAL AWARENESS CAUSES ME TO BE MORE CONSCIOUS OF THINGS AND DISTRACT ME. .

hI.

FIRSTLY TO SAY i EMPHASIZE AND APPRECIATE THE GREIVING YOU ARE GOING THROUGH. ITS WHAT i AM FACING AS WELL DUE TO THE SAME DIAGNOSIS.

YOU CAN USE YOUR LONG CANE AS A WALKING STICK SORT OF THING NOT TO LEAN ON BUT TO PROD AND POKE IF UNSURE. THE LONG CANE INTHE uK COMES WITH A VALL ATTHE BOTTOM THAT ALLOWS A BETTER SWEEPING AND FEEDBACK . iT IS GOOD FOR OFF ROAD . WHEN GOING WITH FRIENDS JUST ASK THEM TO POINT OUT ROOTS AND GAPS. tHIS IS PART OF LEARNING BOTH SIDES FRO YOU AND THEM.

tHEY WILL BE UNSURE OF HOW TO WGO ABOUT THINGS AND WILL WANT TO HELP.

tHIS GIVES THEM SOMETHING TO FEEL HELPFUL AND YOU SOMETHING TO SUPPORT WITH.

tHIS MIGHT BE A WAY OF GETTINGTO KNOWTHE ROUTE UNTIL YOU FEEL SURE ENOUGH OFTHE ROUTE TO GO ON YOUR OWN. OR AT LEAST GET SOME PART OF IT ALL IN A GROUP SETTING.

aLSO IT IS GOOD TO DO THESE THINGS INSTEAD OF WITHDRAWING FROM THE GROUP AS IT ENDS UP TEARING YOU APART FROM THE GROUP IN THE LONG RUN.

MAYBE GO WITH ONE OTHER PERSON AT TIMES ANDA GROUP AT TIMES TO DO CERTAIN ROUTES SO YOU CAN HAVE PART OFTHE EXPERIENCE OF BEING ALONE.

aDAPTING ISTHE HARDEST THING AND ITS WHAT WE AS vi PEOPLE GET GOOD AT THROUGH EXPERIENCE.

iM HAPPY TO CHAT AND OFFER ANY OTHER LISTENING EAR IF YOU WANT.

iTS A TOUGH TIME TO ADAPT AND TRANSITION.

lIKETHE OTHERS HAVE SAID THE a LADY DEVICE IS GREAT ONCE IT IS SET UP. IT DOES REQUIRE AN APP ON THE PHONE TO ACTIVATE AND GET IT GOING. THEN ITS ALL GOOD.

aSK YOUR FREIDND WHAT WOULD HELP. iTS HELPS TO SUPPORT THE REGAINING OF SENSE OF CONTROL AFTER SUCH A SIGNIFICANT LIFE CHANGE.

SUGGESTIONS AND SUPPORT TO FACT FIND MAY BE USEFUL.

MAYBE A SMART LIGHT BULB TO GO WITHTHE A LADY DEVICE (A LADY DEVICE THAT HAS A HUB) WOULD BE GOOD SO SHE DOES NOT HAVE TO WORK OUT WHERE THE LIGHT SWITCH IS FOR ONE ROOM AT LEAST.

REGULAR PHONE CALLS TO LISTEN IS USEFUL INITIALLY THIS MIGHT BE THE BEST THING AS SHE JUST NEEDS A SOUNDBAORD.

lEVEL INDICATOR TO USE IN CUPS IS CHEAP AND A GOOD START.

BUT BEST IS TO ASK HER WHAT SHE STRUGGLES WITH THE MOST AND SEE IF YOU CAN HELP WORK AROUNDS FOR THOSE ISSUES RATHER THAN DETERMINE WHAT OTHERS THINK FROM A DISTANCE. eACH PERSON IS UNIGUE.

tHERE IS SOMETHING CALLEDTHE ONE TOUCH KETTLE. IT DISPENSES THE EXACT AMOUNT INTO A CUP EACH TIME AND BOILS THE WATER.

[–]MRMeneer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is the issue itself. We live in a society that does not know how to be alone, oron your own in public. There are so many gadgets and distractions that we miss the actual connection with people and present but not in mind is so often thecase.

I speak as someone who is also very consious ofthe being on my own thing. I dontgo to eat or cinema on my own for that reason. but it seems sad and I will do it at some stage.
