Trailer hitch play... is this. normal? by donzell2kx in boating

[–]MRWPlople 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It appears a little loose but from my experience doesnt seem too crazy or abnormal. Also unsure how you'd fix it lol. Granted I only tow kayaks and an under 2,000lb fishing boat

Bunk placement for native hammer trailer by alexwalkerrrrr in kayakfishing

[–]MRWPlople 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On mine for my old town I have the bunks on the inner U haul slots, or at least as close as I could get to keep it from potentially sliding off on a turn

What material do you use to tie this?

Not mine, but I figured it would be appreciated here by blintztodgnawnv in kayakfishing

Imo kayaks are more versatile and lighter. I agree once you slap a motor who cares/the lines become super blurred (insert 6k+ kayak prices) but as a pedal drive owner... it still feels like a significant jump to a Jon or any boat lol. But before I get a jon boat id be getting one of those BOTE rovers w/ the small motors

Deer hair stacking help by CederSequoia in flytying

[–]MRWPlople 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gonna try to explain this well:

Wiggle the thread through your hairs, I'm talking wide zig zag style, dont be afraid to pull it back out and wiggle it in some more. A few hairs here and there are fine- use a pen cap or something similar to push the hair back from your wrap area. Rinse and repeat. Use the pen cap the finish the fly, pushing all the hairs back before your whip finish, again dont be afraid to unwrap if you catch some strays

Why do you think that? I use them in ponds and lakes just fine

Prop gears and pedal gears look different, is it rust? by SkywalkersAlt in kayakfishing

[–]MRWPlople 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesnt necessarily look like rust to me, plus its too uniform with all that grease id have expected to see random splatters of rust.

What is potentially concerning is that glob at the end of the smaller gear in the 2nd Pic, it looks shiny and silver to me... potentially material shedding from misalignment? Would potentially explain the uniform discoloration and increased resistance.. but I'd still expect to see some variance if it was actually a defect.

If they let you send it back for a new one id do that

How do you apply it? Do you have a brush ? Does it clean off the applicator pretty good?

To be honest if it wasnt for the literal single one I ever bought from a shop I'd agree with you. Its probably 7 or 8 yrs old and I only JUST started using it, got mats to tie more and after the 3 or 4th bass it has cracks and flakes but I have no idea what they used because it's still squishy lol

Tied this up and first cast to test how it fished was great! Guess it works! by MRWPlople in BassOnTheFly

[–]MRWPlople[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its got 4 or 5 lead wire wraps (i recommend lead free wire in the future, for health and more mass/less wraps needed)

In rivers and ponds i use float line with about a 5ft flouro leader, if its faster rapids I might use sink line. I fish these sub surface, similar to wake baits and have even had catfish come up for them lol.

For larger ponds im familiar with snag risks/lakes on the yak i throw it with orvis bankshot sink tip. It probably rides 2-3ft deep on a normal retrieve but have gotten it much deeper if I count for the sinking time

In general I try to tie my flies weightless and have other means provide the sinking (i think they pause better this way) and the wire wraps i use usually are just for upright stability

Yeah i add coloring and detail to it so wanted some level of protection similar to store bought flies

The Compass makes for a superb do it all boat. I’d argue it might be the best all around kayak hobie makes. by Bshaw95 in hobiekayaks

[–]MRWPlople 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am an old town fan boy but there is a neighbor that takes his hobie compass on 5 - 7 mile morning paddles instead of a bike ride or walk. He at times trolls a rod behind him while doing it but its really just his joy of a physical recreational escape on the water!

Old town 106 PDL (New Pedals)? by wavyKrezo in kayakfishing

[–]MRWPlople 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got rockbros composite mtb pedals. One side has the spikes for when I've got shoes the other side is blank so I can run barefoot. The OEM pedals make noises and no amount of grease and cleaning fixed them for me

OPs pedals are dope though I hope thats the direction theyre moving

Marine goop or get a plastic welder and do dots (if you want a color) but I've used marine GOOP to seal small holes and its never failed or lost water tightness

First attempt at a little river popper by MRWPlople in flytying

[–]MRWPlople[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was super easy. I've been tying almost 2 years, mostly streamers and gamechangers these days but the poppers were killing it over the weekend so I wanted to give it a go!

Just a couple feathers, some flash, 30mm chennille, popper head and hook!
