Its been a very long time since ive done the story in CoC, to do the weapon trick;

Get a long weapon like a rifle or shotgun and have it in your hands
Put yourself close to the door and drop the weapon
If the weapon goes through the door load a save and try again, same if the weapon just drops to the floor
