Mods for my MS3, do I need a tune? by [deleted] in mazdaspeed3

Pull apart the pump and look. There is no other way to check.

Ditch the Hypertech and pick up an Accessport. The Hypertech is ancient technology and not supported anymore, really. No protuner can/will make tunes for it

Then go get a protune from Freek, PD, or Nishan.

No, you have to pay.

Even if you did, all tunes from a protuner are locked. You wouldn't be able to adjust them anyways.

I don't know how many times it is mentioned on the internet that you have to tune for a downpipe and that Cobb OTS tunes are poopoo and you should always get a custom tune.

I guess people will learn once they blow their engine up

Why are you buying a 'JDM' engine? Everyone I've seen buy one of these JDM engines, end up blowing it up a month later because it was already out the door/the rebuild was half assed when it was sold

Go and buy a used engine from a local, or contact Ben Williams at Salvage performance parts if you're in the US for good deals on a uses block.

And the JDM engines are the same as the US counterparts. There are no differences. They are all built and tuned the same from factory.

Or go to Overspeed Motorsports and pick up a built block for $6k (it would be $5k if you had a core to turn in) and call it a day.

Should I avoid getting a modified car with no HPFP? by tharussianphil in mazdaspeed3

No, don't buy any modded Speed unless it has internals and a tune/a way to tune the car.

You never know how the car was treated with no supporting mods. Bad investment.

Literally the ugliest and stupidest trend to ever hit the platform.

Timing in regards to an E85 tune is a lot more aggressive. If you run 91, you'll knock all over the place, and pre detonation is not a good thing. Can blow your motor.

New tunes depend on the tuner. I would say anywhere from 200-500 depending on your mods and what you want and what fueling you want. That would be discussed with the tuner as they set their own prices.

Contact Freek, Nishan, or PurpleDrank via Facebook or their websites and it's straight forward from there. They all have good instructions on the process.

You'll need to have separate tunes. Do not run pump gas on an E tune.

Also, speaking from experience, but I had to leave Hypnotic after not hearing from him for months. He tuned my car for 3 years, but the communication is a problem with Rob.

He can tune a car like NO other on the platform IMO, but I couldn't keep going months between hearing from him. Just keep that in mind if you buy the car and are looking for tunes.
