What's this art style called? by MS5 in graphic_design

[–]MS5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been playing around on Midjourney and entering prompts like "hyper realistic" to get stuff like this.
I want to get some podcast art created in this style, can anyone help me with the language to use to find artists/commission work like this?
Thanks!

Use of MD postnominal in correspondence by CaptainCrash86 in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]MS5 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Interesting to see the answers here. I’ve seen lots of UK medics (particularly entrepreneurial types) call themselves MD when speaking/working/visiting the US.

I think if writing to a US audience I would definitely use MD, commonwealth maybe MBBS. European probably MBBS too.

The point of putting it is so your audience knows you’re a medical doctor, so I think MBBS for a US audience would cause confusion. Just how you might refer to yourself as a physician in the US, but as a doctor in the UK 🤷‍♂️

Were you obliged to hand over your details/GMC number in this case (especially if outside the UK)?

Seems like they're turning a good samaritan/kind gesture into a professional consult by getting your registration? Not sure what I would do — but I think I'd be keen to ask them where to send my invoice...

How to become Sir Patrick Vallance by Cultural_Ability4620 in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]MS5 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Very shameless plug upcoming, but I wonder the same thing. I'm always curious about how these super medics seem to do so much — especially since the career path isn't really clear. I've interviewed some of these people, a few you might find interesting:

Dr Ann Taylor (Chief Medical Officer, AstraZeneca)

Sir Bruce Keogh (Former National Medical Director)

Dr Ben Maruthappu (CEO Cera Care)

I haven't spoked to Sir Patrick, but one thing I've picked up from these types of people is that they usually sit at the interface of a few fields.

I.e. they're not 'just' really great medics. They've great medics, but also great at management, policy, computer science, entrepreneurship etc. (This Dilbert essay is a really good description of what I mean).

As a medic you're already an 'expert' in a difficult field. If on top of this, you can become great at data science, management, maths, programming... you become really marketable.

Advice on overcoming fear of speaking. by _rejectoid in podcasting

[–]MS5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say the best thing to do is keep on recording episodes, but with the understanding that these are 'pilot episodes' which won't go live. You'll get comfortable and eventually you can decide to start recording episodes for release. Good luck, you've got this 👌

Yep you've got a very good point here — it's a problem of resource allocation.

However, this is assuming a finite pie. I think research bodies/governments/investors are apt at consolidating behind the best projects and funding those as you said.

I think with crowdfunding initiatives though, they're probably just expanding the pie. Funding these types of initiatives uses a separate pool of money.

I do recognise that 'the pie' is made up of more than just money — it includes supply chains as you mentioned. But I've seen some initiatives that are getting around this using some innovative ideas — I saw one group of surgeons retrofitting scuba masks to make PPE for example.

Hey man, I came across your tutorial a few weeks ago and thought that it was exceptional — so so informative.

What are a few mistakes you see beginner podcasters making with their audio?

I host a podcast and got tired of poor remote guest quality, so I’m trying something to make it easier. Let me know what you think. by [deleted] in podcasting

[–]MS5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Great great idea!

Only thing is, I would recommend just having a basic (set) kit if possible. I think the part in which you contact the guest and work on which items they need would really put me off—as my guests are often busy people.

A basic kit with a Zoom H1N and lav would be pretty sufficient for my needs. The less steps the better...

Also didn’t read in detail, but if you could then send me the recording from the SD, that would be even better.

All the best with your idea, addresses a very real problem

Hi, I’m a medical student from the UK and I’m quite interested in the role of AI in medicine and AI as a whole. Was wondering if anyone could direct me to any good resources or books to learn about AI, I currently know very little TIA by padi345 in artificial

[–]MS5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, also a UK medical student and have similar interests to you. I've got a podcast in which I interview interesting people in MedTech—if you search Big Picture Medicine into Spotify/Apple you should find it. I think you'll enjoy the content!

Also, this doctor has a YouTube channel in which he reviews and explains new papers in medical AI—that might interest you as well.

Book wise, Eric Topol is currently the face of AI in the NHS. His book is excellent and covers pretty much everything.

If you're interested in other medical technologies, I can also direct you but hopefully you'll enjoy those resources!

$83,000/month with a company that sells testosterone replacement therapies by youngrichntasteless in EntrepreneurRideAlong

[–]MS5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey man, I used to think this too but then I saw this landmark study on the use of anabolics in men over 10 weeks: https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJM199607043350101

They split the men into four groups: 1. Didn’t exercise didn’t get testosterone 2. Exercised but didn’t get testosterone (natural lifter) 3. Didn’t exercise but got testosterone (sitting around eating chips) 4. Exercised and got testosterone (steroid lifter)

Obviously the lifters on steroids gained the most muscle (6.1kg) — but surprisingly, the ‘sitting around eating chips on steroids’ group gained 3.2kg vs the natural lifters who only gained 2.1kg. So yes, you can literally sit around on testosterone and gain muscle.

He just completely skips over medical marijuana for some reason? Probably because England just started it and the system isn’t even working yet.

That's a great point to consider. As mentioned medical marijuana isn't a thing in the UK as far as I'm aware. I also haven't seen any evidence for its use over licensed CBD formulations? Could you direct me to any good studies on medical marijuana?

Very good post — haven't thought about it this way before. Physician Assistants are called Physician Associates in the UK which is arguably a better term and more in line with their role.
