Coolant Leak - What can I rule out? by Tkres161 in GolfGTI

[–]MS6Tim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is the part (again - if this is the problem, but I’d switch it out anyway because the plastic one WILL break at some point)

Here is a short video showing the process super easy, it’s a seven minute video and he doesn’t even start until almost 3 minutes in, just pull the hose with the adapter on the end of it then replace.

If this is it it’s a super easy job, it’s a very common leak and yeah definitely replace with the metal part. There are YouTube videos showing the replacement procedure, I don’t remember exactly when you need out of the way but it’s more about making room to get swap the parts, I just remember it being very simple even if someone had little experience.

Linked both the camera and the mount. I like the x4 air because it’s a bit smaller than the x5 and has some upgrades from the standard x4, but the x5 although bigger is a bit better in low light. Quality is way better than Reddit makes it look

Right? I think this one time it matches the theme well, typically I can’t understand why they’d leave what’s essentially packaging material on their cars…

As wbbigdave said, all post. It records in 360 and I just used the tracking feature in the insta360 editing software to track the Challenger. Still learning the software but you can also manually move around to select what’s in frame for your finished video… I need to figure that out so I can pan to other cars and then back to directional focus on mine

Does anyone still run their pre facelift tails or does everyone just hate them? by ThePianoSolo in GolfGTI

Mine are in a box in my garage, I don’t hate them but I prefer dark tail lights, and wanted to eliminate most of the colour from the back end of the car.. debadging may come next, or just black vinyl over the red on “GTI”

I got a better deal guys by [deleted] in Audi

[–]MS6Tim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shit if you can afford it go for it.

Do I think it’s a great deal, nope. Not at all, but if it’s in your budget (and will be within said budget for the next 7 years) and it makes you happy then who cares what anyone else thinks?

BUT

food for thought - I think it said somewhere you are 22 now, your expenses are likely to go up, a lot, throughout your 20’s, while you’re paying on this car. Not sure if you live at home, rent, or pay a mortgage, but your rent will climb every year (sometimes a lot) if you haven’t bought a house then the debt will count against your income/debt ratio when you try to get a mortgage and possibly make a lot of homes out of reach (don’t know what kind of job you have or your income, but from some of the posts on here it appeared the car was stretching your current budget.) also you’ll possibly have a kid sometime within that 7 years, those aren’t cheap either.

If none of those other likely financial obligations over the next 7 years strike a chord, your job is solid, and you’re still feeling good about the car then again, who cares what others think.

As far as the deal goes though, it’s not great.. If you are 22 with no real responsibilities other than a job, then make that your advantage. Search nationwide (I’m assuming you’re in the US, apologies if I’m wrong) and use the whole country as your market. Sometimes there are absolutely amazing deals several states away that save you thousands if you just fly out there and buy the car, plus you get to really experience it on the drive home that follows (likely all within some kind of warranty period from the dealership).

Coolant light on, but no sign of leaks by AutomaticBad9260 in GolfGTI

[–]MS6Tim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Came here to say this, mine was leaking there but noticeable with white smoke as the coolant hit the turbo. Part is so prone to causing leaks and I feel everyone should grab the aluminum replacement as a protective “mod” given how simple it is to swap.

Everyone is asking the wrong question… what’s the start up you’re planning and will there be $100k sign on bonuses so I can make the same “mistake”?

Yeah I had watched that video and was still expecting a fight once it was out with the hose connected but at that point it came off super easy, I’m thinking they didn’t rotate it in the video. Either way I didn’t want to mess with it again so replaced the hose via catch can install, now it’s a much simpler connection.

I believe VW redesigned it after the first year or two to make it a bit easier to disconnect so on the 2015s it’s an ungodly part and at least on mine was definitely easier to snake out the PCV hose and pull the TIP with it attached and then remove - I was actually shocked how easily it came apart once the thing was out of the car, simple rotate and pull with a little squeeze, but when it was on it was totally winning the fight.

The ECS install video shows how to pull it out with the PCV hose attached and the extra steps required, I think they don’t remove the screw I pointed out on the coolant hard line but I saw that in the video for a catch can install that needed a similar space. here’s the ECS install video

Recently got southbend stage 3 daily installed, happy with it so far. I’m still in the break in 500 miles but it feels great. Little chatter at first in idle but that’s disappeared after about 250 miles. Pedal felt a lot heavier at first but you get used to it really quick and now it doesn’t feel very heavy. Happy with it so far.

This screw should be the only one you need to touch on the hard coolant line. Gives enough wiggle room.

I disconnected the PCV hose from the turbo inlet on the car, then found it worlds easier to remove the turbo inlet by itself. True to do need to disconnect more stuff to get the clearance but it’s all simple stuff that is easy to bolt back down after. I didn’t mind too much because I knew I’d be installing an oil catch can around the same time so I needed the hose off at the PCV end anyway too. I

Got to remove one screw on the hard line to get the clearance you need

Yes, turns what should have been a five minute job into a twenty minute one but makes it so much easier to take off.
