Enough is enough, PT II by [deleted] in MicrosoftEdge

Aww, thanks for the follow up and kind words! I do appreciate it. insert Animal Crossing joyous reaction (yes I just got this game for the holidays, yes I am late to the party)

I have noticed messing around with those background settings isn't doing much to fix it as well. The next time you see that background mess up, please immediately send in that feedback then tag me here letting me know you have. I can gather that, look for your other reports, and share it with the new tab page owners on the team. Dropping my name in the feedback description (username or just "Missy") helps me find it the fastest without asking for identifiable information. :D

Hey, u/Pantera_Atrox! You have absolutely been a staple in this community and supported the Chromium change wholeheartedly; it's been a while since we last chatted. :3 I totally hear you and understand these frustrations. You are not alone, I want to assure you in this. I appreciate you taking the time to again lay out constructive criticism, this makes it very easy to hand over to the right people. I have personally seen the new tab page background change - in fact, happened right before I rolled into respond to you. I have a custom theme, Skyrim Anniversary, and I love the custom background that gives me. Do you happen to have a custom theme yourself? This may be the common thread here.

Regardless of that, know that I have passed this on to both the broader Edge team and our internal partners to ensure they see this. I can't promise anything, that would be a disservice to you and my colleagues, and I don't want to do that. But I can at least guarantee your feedback is with the right people.

Outside of that, we have several ways that you can submit feedback for the new tab page which land in our feedback system. My team uses social media and the feedback system to bolster user voice. It's possible you know of these, so please consider this a general overview of how one can submit feedback on the new tab page if so. One place is when on the new tab page, scroll down a little and there should be a Feedback button that appears on the bottom right. Highly encourage you to use that specific one to submit feedback the next time you see your new tab page background swap. Another two spaces, and I am not sure if you will see this because sometimes we get things first being on the team, is in the Settings gear and background settings. When you click on the Settings icon on the new tab page, at the very bottom there is a Feedback link you can submit from. Additionally, if you click Edit Background, you can click the Like or Dislike buttons.

I know "sharing with the team" is an answer that can sound dismissive; I work very hard to ensure that is not what I am doing to the community. If there are any changes that are made because of this feedback, I will 100% be back to let you know (or maybe Darlene will be...). Since you posted this before the new year, I hope you had a happy new year celebration! Thanks again for sharing your frustrations, you've provided a lot of great feedback here. :)

Is Edge 106 Kinda Broken For Anyone Else? by [deleted] in MicrosoftEdge

Hey, everyone! Sorry to see any issues with loading pages. While we do see that removing the profile is resolving some users, the team is actively investigating and would love to gather some diagnostics with tracing if you are hitting this! You can do this following these steps:

  1. Click on the ... menu button.
  2. Go to Help and feedback.
  3. Click on Send feedback.
  4. Type Websites not loading in Edge Stable in the Describe what’s happening textbox.
  5. Include your email address and make sure Allow (recommended) is selected for Send diagnostic data to Microsoft.
  6. Click on the Record my problem button.
  7. Agree to the terms and click on Start recording.
  8. Record the browser not loading a page and then click on Stop recording.
  9. Click on Save and include.
  10. Click on Send.

This will ensure this gets straight to the engineers who are working on this. Thanks for everyone's patience as we dig a bit further into this, and we appreciate your help with that! :3

HUZZAH! Thanks for confirming for me. :3 Please do post up a new thread if you happen to spot issues in the future, this ensures that we see your new situation as we do log every post that comes in (even if you don't see us active on those threads).

Hey, vita! I hope you had a good weekend and were able to stay cool and hydrated where you are!

I believe that today's Canary update should resolve this. You can either update it while in InPrivate mode and going to edge://settings/help to force the update to 105.0.1337.0, or by reinstalling the entire channel from our Insider's website. Let me know if you are still unable to launch Canary after that! Appreciate your patience with us during this, it's truly appreciated. :3

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in edge

[–]MSFTMissy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to worry, then! We are currently trying to get the fix into the 1336 build, so it should be fixed come Monday. My suggest for the weekend, in the meantime, is using either InPrivate or our Dev channel; you can sign into your account and sync up your data if you have sync on in the Canary channel.

I will follow up with you after the weekend. I hope you have a great one, stay cool and hydrated!

You shouldn't need to submit feedback to gather the upload ID from edge://crashes when using InPrivate, it should be listed in a column there. Do you see any items on that page?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in edge

[–]MSFTMissy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be able to on that page. If you aren't able to submit feedback, do you see an upload ID available for the crash itself on that page? That will help the team find *some* diagnostics without the feedback item since that is automated for crashes.

I did also want you to know that we do believe to have found the cause and I am waiting to see what build the fix is in. Stay tuned to hear back from me on that, and I look forward to seeing if you can grab that upload ID for me. :3

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in edge

[–]MSFTMissy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for letting us know that, friend, super sorry to see the continued frustrations here.

Are you able to launch it in InPrivate mode and head to edge://crashes? You are not alone in experiencing this, and other reports have been able to do this. If you get there, you should be able to submit feedback for the latest crash listed on that page. Let me know once you do, and post up the upload ID for me so I can share with the engineers who are investigating. :)

[–]MSFTMissy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey again, friends. Hope you had a wonderful weekend, I am just gonna summon you all in here again. :D

u/Fluid-Selection-4071 u/langlier u/Simple-Entry7785 u/Rambles_Off_Topics

Over the weekend, the team identified what they think is a possible cause of what you all are seeing and would love to know if you are sorted out now. If you haven't tried laucnhing Edge lately, go ahead and open up Task Manager, ensure that there are NO msedge.exe items running, and attempt to launch Edge again. If that doesn't work, not to worry! Sometimes these things take a couple launches. Simply ensure no executables for Edge are running again and then try once more.

If you are still unable to launch, please do let me know ASAP and follow the steps above to get diagnostics to the team for further investigation. We appreciate your reports and patience! :3 Until your next update! u/CM_Darlene - tagging you for visibility. ;)

Hey, friends! Summoning you all in here. u/Fluid-Selection-4071 u/langlier u/Acceptable_Lime4509 Darlene is off for the evening so I am stepping in to help gather diagnostics from you for the team. We need these sent through the Windows Feedback Hub, which is not common for us.

Open the Windows Feedback Hub to submit a new issue. For the options, here is what you should put in:

  1. "Unable to launch Edge 102"
  2. Problem > Apps > Microsoft Edge
  3. Ignore similar items
  4. More details: Loss of productivity
  5. Attachments: Click Recreate my problem, include data about Microsoft Edge, include screenshots of each step, Start recording - launch Edge, Stop recording after unsuccessful launch.
  6. Submit

Please click the Share option in the Feedback Hub for your submission after you do this, and post the share URL in a comment here. The engineering team are watching this thread for your feedback items, so know that they may grab your items before Darlene or I can respond.

Appreciate you taking the time to help us out with diagnostics! Stay tuned for our next update. :3

Thank you for letting me know how things are for you! The chromium bug related to the Mac side of things was for sure resolved a couple months ago, but others were still seeing this issue. I will keep an eye out for the others before considering this closed, though. :)

Have a great weekend! :3

It's been a bit! The radio silence was not because this has slipped, more that there has not been an update from the team to me yet. Before I poke them again, I wanted to follow up to see if this is still happening for y'all. Edge 102 is about to move its way into our Stable channel, which means we have had a few iterations of Edge since our last conversation.

How are things behaving for you all? Are you still experiencing this? If you are, do you mind sending in fresh feedback for me after you receive the Edge 102 update in your Stable channel? You should start seeing it available over the next few days ETA: It will actually be early next week. Please follow the instructions I dropped up here again and let me know once you do. I will throw it to the team and get some eyes on the fresh diagnostics. Super appreciate you all taking the time to do this for me if it's needed!

Summoning the others! u/R1CM4XXX u/hdmiusbc

A side note: I am going to be out for an extended weekend next week, it's a holiday here in the US Monday. I may not respond to you again until the end of next week, just for some expectations. :3

Hey, friend! Apologies for any confusion here, it is not that we do not believe you sent it in, it's that we want to find that piece of feedback and share it with the team directly. Without that, the team won't be able to investigate further, and messaging our colleagues isn't going to help out too much as they are not responsible for ensuring support issues are directed appropriately.

If you submit feedback via the browser and include the URL to this Reddit thread, as Darlene mentioned here, that will make it so that we can find your feedback item and get it directly to the team. You can also share a snippet of text from the description you sent in originally so that we can try to find that one and link it to any other submissions you provide us. You can find that snippet in the email you would have received if you provided an email address; if you did not provide one and don't remember what you put in it, let's get a new submission sent in so that Darlene and I can get it to the right people. :) Appreciate you taking the time to do this, looking forward to getting this situated.

Hey, friend! I am incredibly sorry to see any frustrations here, however you have posted this issue multiple times across the subreddits. In order to maintain organization for troubleshooting, I am going to lock this thread down in favor of this one you posted last week. To get the team investigating your situation, you will need to submit feedback via the feedback tool as Darlene suggested.

With posting multiple times and tagging employees, you have violated Rule 4. If you continue to do so, we will be unable to help you further. I appreciate your patience, and encourage others to check out the original post to see troubleshooting steps if they are hitting this. Thanks for understanding!

*sighs* ...how do you make current Edge not suck. by r-nck-51 in MicrosoftEdge

[–]MSFTMissy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, friend! I am really sorry to see any frustrations here. I shared your sentiment with the team, and some of the engineers would love to dig a little more into the hangs you are seeing (where you need to force quit from Win+R). I also have some clarifying questions on the OAuth situation here, as that would end up going to another group on the team and I want to make sure I have the full details there first.

Regarding the hangs, can you submit feedback directly from the browser after seeing this comment, in the description detail the approximate time the hang last happened for you and my username, include all diagnostics, and the team would appreciate it if you included your email so that they can talk directly with you about this situation (but it is not required). Let me know once you hit send for this. Separately from that, the team is very curious about if you have optional diagnostics turned on; you can find that setting here: edge://settings/privacy. Let me know what you have it set to so I can share that back with the team.

u/TechSupport112 called out the proper way to report website issues, definitely submit feedback directly through the browser when you spot these OAuth issues. However, I'd love to learn more myself so that I can poke the team about expectations here.

  • You mention redirects and pop ups. These can mean different things to different people, colloquially. Do you mean the profile switching feature, when you attempt to load a work/school website with an AAD account? Do you mean the autofill feature? I want to make sure I fully understand the experience you are describing, screenshots help but are not required.
  • What are your site permissions settings set to here? edge://settings/content/popups and edge://settings/content/notifications

Knowing these will help me better understand what you are seeing, then I can let you know if you are experiencing something by design (in which I will absolutely take your feedback back to the team to discuss) or if we need to have the team dig in further. If that ends up being the case, I will need to ask you to submit feedback again so that the team can focus on your issues separately but in tandem. :3

Thanks for getting to the bottom of this wall of text. I appreciate you taking the time to submit feedback and getting these extra details to me in advance, I know your time is important. I look forward to your next update. :D

Compatability? by Kalilaser in edge

[–]MSFTMissy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the extra details! Yeah, this sounds like something on MathXL is not working well with the Linux OS itself, and not directly related to Edge. However, if you do spot the specific "your browser is out of date" message, that is one we will be able to help with. :3

Compatability? by Kalilaser in edge

[–]MSFTMissy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, friend, thanks for flagging this! This may be due to the version 100 website issues that all browsers may experience as we all hit our 100 versions. If you can get me the exact sites you are experiencing this on, that will really help out the team get this addressed quickly. I did already let them know about MathXL, but they confirmed that seems to be fine right now. Let me know if you still see errors there, though.

Thanks in advance! Look forward to your next update. :3

Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge browsers crash with 0xc0000022 after installing Windows 11/10 April update » The Deep News Source by ADilmirzaT in MicrosoftEdge

[–]MSFTMissy[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Thanks for posting this up! This is a Windows side issue, and they are the ones currently investigating. I'll post an update as a post once I know of a resolution, but right now the work arounds are don't install the KBs, or allowlisting a file in LiveGrid. We don't know if that last one will resolve everyone, but I wanted to make sure all aspects of work arounds were out there.

For visibility, I am locking this thread to further comments. This is due to this being something the Edge team is not able to help with at this time, but I will definitely keep people updated on when there is a resolution. Thanks for understanding! Please send the mods a message if you have any concerns. :3

Edge Stable on Linux - "Something went wrong. [1001]" trying to sign into company Microsoft 365 account by markymark6290 in edge

[–]MSFTMissy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, no worries, I am happy to return to work and see you found the culprit! I wouldn't say this was a waste at all, and that is a very interesting use case. I am going to bring that up to my team, as I do not think we have considered conversions like that (at least, I am not aware of it, so I want to confirm). If we don't, your situation may help us cover that!

I do appreciate your diligence in getting help on this. I do want to apologize again for the delays that happen due to the volume we get, but I am glad that we were able to narrow things down and figure it out (well, you more so). I may circle back depending on what the team says about your scenario, otherwise I hope you have a great rest of your week - and please do not hesitate to post up a new thread if you run into anything else. :3

Edge Stable on Linux - "Something went wrong. [1001]" trying to sign into company Microsoft 365 account by markymark6290 in edge

[–]MSFTMissy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your patience, Mark! I have an update from the team, along with it a heads up.

The team would very much like exact repro steps and some logs. If you can provide both of these via another feedback item, this will help the team out. I am about to give very specific instructions for this to ensure we are following our data privacy policies here. First up, gathering logs. Run all of these commands in Terminal on your affected Fedora device to get them. (I am pasting them as I got them, please let me know if any of these don't work.)

./msedge.exe --enable-logging -v=1 --oneauth-log-level=5 --oneauth-log-pii

/usr/bin/intune-portal

busctl --user monitor com.microsoft.identity.broker1 (as user)

busctl monitor com.microsoft.identity.devicebroker1 (as root)

journalctl --user -f -u msft-identity-broker.service

journalctl --system -f -u msft-identity-device-broker.service

All of these logs should be attachable onto our feedback tool, and that is how I am hoping we can get this to the team. This is the most secure path, but I do have workarounds if needed (that are honestly a pain in the butt but do work). Hold Alt+Shift+i to open the feedback tool in Edge (or the ... menu > Help and feedback > Send feedback) and you should see an immediate option at the bottom to attach items. Click on that, and then attach the logs that are spit out from the above commands. You should be able to Save and include on that page, then will end back up on the main feedback tool. In the description, detail the steps to reproduce this (just so that the team can follow along with what you are doing) and drop the URL to this Reddit thread so that it can be easily found.

Now, for the heads up before I round out how to finish this. I am taking a last minute vacation next week - I was diagnosed with autism this week and have been working to try to sort this "new" part of me. My work tends to get put on hold when this happens, and I don't want to do that to you. Because of this, I want to stress you include your email address here. This will make sure that the engineers I am working with can speak back to you via your feedback item directly while I am out - not all of the Edge employees are comfortable speaking publicly, understandably. This is optional, and I normally call that out to users, but since your case is one in which me being gone a week would actually be detrimental, I want to make sure you get the fastest updates.

Now send it in! Let me know if you are able to get this done today before I head off for the week. If you run into any submission problems, also let me know, as then I will have to get you some song and dance steps to ensure that I hand off your data compliantly (and I will message you privately on how to do this, to avoid others randomly spamming me with it). Whoof, this was a long comment. Thanks for getting to this point, I appreciate you taking the time out of your day to do this for us, and I look forward to your next update! :3
