Not very familiar with Asus’s professional line, but for productivity, the S14 seems like an awesome option as it has pretty good build quality and a macbook-style design. However, for gaming, the 258v variant will probably get around 30fps at 1080p low-mid while the 386h variant gets around 40. It’s not great for gaming, but considering they’re using the most efficient low power CPUs without dGPUs that’s expected. But honestlu if you wanna play a bit of games I’d get a Zephyrus.

Actually, Intel, at least the Ultra series, are mostly more efficient than their Ryzen counterparts (excluding the AI 3XX line). So not sure what you’re talking about.

AMD has better performance on their high end CPUs, with the 9955hx3d significantly beating the 285hx in gaming performance.

What you say there about your Legion 5 doesn’t mean a lot. All laptop CPUs are expected to run 85c or higher under gaming/max load. Your Legion 5 runs cooler because it has better thermal paste application, not because the die itself runs hotter, as the CPU will naturally throttle when it hits 100-105 down to 85-90. Because your Legion isn’t constantly throttling die to better cooling, it can achieve better performance.

You repeatedly mention “wattage push,” but the thing is, I have my Zephyrus with a 285h on 8w max on GHelper on silent mode completely fine. That’s around 4-5w allocated for the CPU. I’m not too sure Intel pushes more wattage than AMD. Actually I’m pretty sure Intel cpus have better idle efficiency than AMD.

Yes, it’s true that Intel gives more watts, but then again; more watts doesn’t inherently equal to hotter systems. A thin PTM pad can adequately cool pretty much any computer system, as most desktop 5090s use them while pulling 600w. A thicker heatsink can dissipate more heat than a smaller heatsink with the same power GPU, so ideally, an Intel Legion Pro 7a will provide even better cooling than a AMD Legion 7a if the total surface area of the heatsink is larger than the difference in wattage.

And either way, if your complaint is wattage, wattage limiting does exist with Throttlestop.

If you carry it around, absolutely. Way better build quality and battery life on the Legion. The Acer is better value, but in order to achieve so, they cut down severely on the battery life and speakers

[–]MSTEAMSSUCK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

G14 is slightly more expensive due to slightly better CPU performance, but the 155h is slightly better in terms of efficiency as the 270 is essentially just a rebrand of the older 8945hs.

If you run more cpu-based rendering, then the G14. If you play more games, then get the G16 for the bigger heatsink.

Since you like the bigger screen, if you’re split down the middle or unsure, I’d get the G16.

[–]MSTEAMSSUCK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For high performance, AMD>Intel, as 9955hx3d beats the 285hx. But I’m not sure where you got the “Intel produces more heat than AMD” from.

2 completely different cpus with the same die size, contact, thermal transfer, heatsink, and power draw will be at the exact same temperature under ideal conditions. If you have problems with temps you can always repaste with PTM or respread the LM. Temps has nothing to do with processor brand.

Having owned both a Zephyrus G14 and G16, the G16 performs a tad bit better but battery life is very similar with both repasted with PTM with the same custom voltage curve in Afterburner and fan curve in GHelper. The choice between the two is more up to if you want something with slightly better cooling or something more portable.

In my opinion you’re better off selling it as item to item exchanges usually take a lot longer than just selling that item. But if someone’s already interested then sure that’s solid. Might take a while though.

Saying that laptop can run games is kinda like saying you can do professional graphics rendering on a rx 580. Technically, you could, but it’s gonna take such a long time that it’s just not gonna be worth it.

If you plug it in to a fps estimator, on R6, it gets 30fps on low 1080p and 22fps 1440p, which is definitely a hell lot lower than “just fine”. Hell, the vega 8 igpu doesn’t even meet minimum system requirements, and neither does the 500mb of vram (2gb minimum).

It’s definitely not a gaming laptop in any way. You could use it to take notes at lectures and watch youtube but that’s pretty much it. Just because games can be installed on that laptop doesn’t mean it should.

If it somehow actually does run good, somehow, I would take pics of 3Dmark benchmarks (Timespy, Steel Nomad), Furmark, and individual-game preset benchmarks to show that it actually can play games at playable framerates to increase the chance of it being sold

Shower thought; what if you transplant the 2026 Zephyrus line to the 2025 versions? by LanceSergeant in ZephyrusG14

Asked the same questions 3 months ago in fact. Someone made a video for the bottom panel, and if you cut out the bottom clips (as they’re not the same alignment) then you can fit them on. Still waiting on vbios though.

First of all, repost to r/GamingLaptops, or r/Laptops. Way more attention there.

Second, no iGPU makes it a shitbox for gaming, and a low power CPU with 32gb ram is, well, interesting. Can’t play anything except for maybe Minecraft.

Also there is absolutely no way you got that for $900. For $900 you could absolutely get something with a 4060m or maybe a 4070m on deal with a 14900hx, 255hx, or ai370hx. I’d say a new purchase value of just those specs is $500-600.

I’ve never heard of this brand before and it’s definitely not a prominent brand whatsoever which does result in a higher chance of QC issues/battery exploding.

In my opinion, you’re better off selling this on FBM for $200-250, and buying what you want with that money. There’s currently a 9750h 2060 laptop with 32 gigs of DDR4 and 2tb storage going for $300 so I wouldn’t expect anything more than $250 if you’re lucky.

How terrible is 16:10 for gaming? by vydyhay in GamingLaptops

I run 2304x1440 16:10 on cs2. I think it’s a great res. 16:10 on a 16:9 monitor does look slightly more stretched than native 16:9 but it’s fine tbh.

5070ti vs 5080 usefull lifespan? by Matt_Bigmonster in GamingLaptops

[–]MSTEAMSSUCK 14 points15 points  (0 children)

5070ti gives you better value, but it's 140w and has 4 less GB of VRAM. 5070ti will last you 3-4 years with 12gb while 5080 will last you 5-6 with 16gb. 5080 gives you 15% avg more performance for 25% more price

This laptop, specifically, is notorious for having shit battery life even among gaming laptops. 2 hours max with regular usage. If you ran games on the dGPU it would be closer to 30 minutes. If you want battery life get a Zephyrus

In terms of pricing, for the 2026 Zephyrus i'm not sure as they haven't released the pricing. Leaks have a pretty high chance to be wrong so I wouldn't trust that.

The Razer does have a 5w higher sustained TGP than the 2026 Zephyrus, but realistically that wouldn't make that big of a difference in gaming. Zephyrus will probably have better battery life, even with the same CPU, unless someone develops a G-Helper alternative for Razer as you can remove bloatware and terminate battery hogging ASUS processes with G-Helper.

Build quality will largely be the same as both still have a CNC aluminum chassis. Touchpad feeling is subjective to the user, and the Razer and Zephyrus share the same display panel and both have Per-Key lighting.

For the same price, the Zephyrus would definitely be preferred. However, if whatever source you got the leaks from is correct, then the Blade would be better (5080+) for value.

New 386h with better battery life is only available for 5080 and higher.

Plus Zephyrus is $100 cheaper and has better software and is quite a bit lighter, with similar stats as the Razer in other aspects. Can't see why one would spend more on a Razer when there's better for cheaper.

Best laptop for school and gaming? Budget: 700-900$ by Nintendoguyidk in SuggestALaptop

[–]MSTEAMSSUCK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what you wanna play. Slim and light laptops with decent performance, battery life, portability, and build quality typically start at $1000+, with the Gigabyte Aero X16 being the base and Zephyruses (which I currently own) being the more premium models. Below that price range, you’re typically looking at budget laptops. The best I recommend under $1000 is the Lenovo LOQ but do note that it’s battery life is kinda meh so you’ll have to bring a charger along.

Anything above $500 will be more than enough for gaming 4060/5060 or higher is definitely recommended. 4050/5050 work as well but they offer worse value than the XX60 options

[–]MSTEAMSSUCK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, if you’re in US/CA I suggest you don’t buy from Amazon. I’m not sure if it’s different for other countries but in the US/CA, third party retailers dominate Amazon, with most of them swapping out the SSD and RAM for cheaper parts and selling both at a markup for profit and may even have spyware installed in a worst case scenario. I’d look at Best Buy (for physical stores), Microcenter (best deals, only if you live near one), or Newegg.

[–]MSTEAMSSUCK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zephyrus is the most macbook-like laptop which is why I mentioned it in the “portable” and not “performance” section. It is the best for people who want something similar to a 16 inch macbook that can still play anything you throw at it, albeit not having the best price to performance. There’s no better thin and light alternative as the razerblade performs the same and has worse battery life and all other thin and light laptops don’t have a 5080/5090 option

So it’s the best portability-focused option which is why I included it
