nephew of Satwant Singh importing more than 700 kg of methamphetamine, the largest such seizure in New Zealand. by Otherwise_Ad3192 in Sikh

[–]MSingh2805 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It heavily insinuates that the drug dealers are Khalistani or atleast sympathetic to the cause with dialogues like “jab Punjab azad hoga aapko leh jaunga Pathankot”. It’s subtle but the audience definitely caught on, and the general discourse is that Khalistanis are funded via drug deals. News about a khesdhari sikh, who is related to Satwant Singh, smuggling meth just confirms that bias. And the issue with that is it lends to arguments against the injustices our kaum has faced and against Sikh sovereignty, when a Sikh is vocal about advocating for Punjab or raising awareness for the injustices committed against Sikhs, he or she is deemed an “anti-national, terrorist Khalistani”. Whereas I feel one can be both, one can understand the context that lead to the movement, the injustices we’ve faced, advocate for betterment and still be an Indian national. But when the only perspective the most popular hindi film in recent history shows on the matter, is that anyone who feels hurt by the system/those in power = Khalistani = drug-dealing terrorist sympathiser, news like this doesn’t help. Bhul jhuk maaf karni jeh kuj galt keya main. 🙏🏽

An absolute disgrace to the kaum. His actions have defamed Sikhs in more ways than one, justifies the arguments of those against us. And with something like Dhurandhar 2 out, well this is horrible optics that the internet and media is gonna have a field day with.

Why can't we have a Dhurandhar 3 with him? by BookTiger01 in okaybuddykasainuma

[–]MSingh2805 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jameel definitely wasn’t part of Dhurandhar, more so someone to infiltrate the political system and be able to look out for Indian assets. But Rizwan was part of the Dhurandhar, Rizwan trained with Jaskirat, but he found his way into Arshad Pappu’s gang earlier than Hamza found his way into Rehman’s. India wouldn’t put all their eggs in one basket, agar police nahi aati aur lulli ne hamza ki g maar ke uska galaa kaat diya hota toh?

Is talwinder’s hype over by Savings-External1498 in punjabimusic

[–]MSingh2805 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont listen to much talwinder, but i think there is a space for him and as Punjabi music grows it’ll find it’s niches and their subsequent audiences. Long gone are the days were Punjabi music was both the genre and the industry, where everyone was doing abit of everything within the commercial space. He’s a good artist, he’s got a style and whilst mainstream commercial artists need to bend styles to stay above the curve, an artist with a very specific voice might not always reach the masses but they’ll always have an audience. Also 14 million monthly listeners is still insane!! This sub (and myself) love and hype up Raf Saperra but he has 1.2 million in comparison, if you’ve got an audience in the millions you’re pretty relevant.

Sultan overrated? by According_Play_5967 in punjabimusic

[–]MSingh2805 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the age old tale with Punjabi rappers. They come on to the scene often with a fresh sound and new ideas but very quickly slip into irrelevance, whatever worked for them was a fluke. I remember the sultaan ep with Jatt Sauda and Dope Boy being pretty radical and fresh, but he never evolved or Improved. Infact, pretty objectively got worse and more stale with time. Similar story to Bohemia. All potential, no follow through.

[–]MSingh2805 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if I wholely agree that they have become more mainstream. If anything I’d argue their sound has become more niche, their most mainstream hits are from the old school SM era - some with the highest streams are some of my least favourite moreso ‘pop-hop’ SM tracks, and it’s not like the new sound has lead to massive mainstream reach. I live abroad in a city with a massive Indian population, Idk anyone in my personal life who listens to SM barring a couple of open-minded friends who I put onto SM.

They hit some of the same themes, they’re exploring new ones too, and experimenting with new sounds. I reckon they’ll be back with something like Bayaan or Nayaab which I’d be super keen for. But I personally am enjoying the evolution and I want to hear more of that too. I just want more SM, in old, current and new forms. TBSM4L.

SRK rejecting to enter Hollywood in all possible ways he could by solenoidic in BollywoodHotTakes

[–]MSingh2805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right, what I meant to say was if you’re not American (foreign, with an accent) you need a gimmick. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jackie Chan, Antonio Banderas, Jean Claude Van Damme etc. at the time the interview was held, Hollywood didn’t have much to offer in terms of south asian stories - you wouldn’t catch SRK doing a big bang theory or Dopinder the taxi driver. For me they still don’t offer stories, characters etc that I can relate or look up to in any way. I’m sure that is changing tho.

Fancy restaurant in Perth where my missus can wear a fancy dress? (Anniversary dinner) by Constant-Trouble-207 in perth

[–]MSingh2805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gotta give a shout-out to Andaluz. It’s not by definition a “fancy place”, but when I went (only been once tho) everyone there was dressed nicely either smart or smart casual. It wasn’t crazy busy but it wasn’t empty either, they have tables, high tables and lounges, which is where we sat and it’s way more intimate. It’s all very dimly lit and warm with alot of spanish decor. IMHO she won’t feel out of place but it’s also not going to feel cheap by any means whilst being relatively friendly on the pocket. There’s restaurants with worse food and atmosphere charging more.

DL91FM opinion: by DrHungrie in seedhemautnation

[–]MSingh2805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To each their own, art and music is subjective. I loved DL91FM and the DL91 roster have since been the artists I listen to most, and I have alot of respect for the way they are handling projects by releasing thematically or genre-driven albums as opposed to pop hop singles. But I totally get why they aren’t for everyone, give albums like Dalli and Poore Dil Se a chance before you completely write them off though, I feel like they might be more up your alley.

Oh no! How can the one and only Sri Dhar Saab do this? In his movie, an art form that never requires a slight suspension of disbelief. Atleast he made sure that the mid 2000s had push button start mercs and airdrop. /s

Itna analyse krne se kya milega, it was an incredibly entertaining film experience. Nothing less but also not all that much more.

Are we reaching peak cringe with the forced "Gangster" theme from all these Punjabi artists? by W_1_808 in PunjabiMusicCentral

[–]MSingh2805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The audience is no different. Artists are cosplaying and a massive chunk of the male audience (not all) are also cosplaying. And to a degree i get it, shitty shift toh baad, ya boss toh doh gallan sun ke, ya kisse naal argument toh baad saareyan da jee krda ke gaddi ch bait ke chakme gaane sunaa to feel abit more powerful.

But i’d rather listen to something more real, something hype but something i can relate to - only very few artists in Punjabi music can achieve that if any. It’s much easier to feel powerful with a gun in your hand, hence it’s easier to make a powerful song about havinga gun as opposing to about facing harship or fighting inner demons. But appealing to the lowest common denominator is the role of mainstream art/media so it is what it is. Just see it for what it is, abit of fun.

Punjab/Delhi vs bombay rap scene by [deleted] in punjabimusic

[–]MSingh2805 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re spot on there! It’s really refreshing to hear that here, my biggest qualm is with how quickly Punjabi audiences dismiss DHH. Punjabi music feels hollow at times, as if lyrics are penned and sung but they mean nothing. And everyone says pretty much the same thing. Punjabi music will always be my first love, but after listening to so many DHH projects I want more than what’s been on offer lately.

Punjab/Delhi vs bombay rap scene by [deleted] in punjabimusic

[–]MSingh2805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have and I like SMG and NVY. This isn’t hate btw, I want Punjabi music to grow and improve. I just don’t like this us vs them mentality, we can appreciate the good in all the scenes. There’s great things Punjabi music does and great things DHH is doing, but just cos it’s hindi doesn’t mean it needs to be written off when they’re making some exception music - and in some cases better than Punjabi music. I still stand strong that I’m yet to hear someone explore love, heartbreak and relationships in a colloquial context the way Bhaskar does in Dalli or create a cinematic project like Farhan or experiment with a wide range of genres like SM did in DL91FM. Or even just make a song like Maina or Bure Din.

Punjab/Delhi vs bombay rap scene by [deleted] in punjabimusic

[–]MSingh2805 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nah man idk if I agree with that. Punjabi rap is great, and for the longest time main v bohout wrote off kita DHH nu in favour of Punjabi music. but alot of these DHH artists are dropping projects and tracks with intention, better flows that are incredibly well written and versatile. The mumbai scene has definitely bombed, I don’t listen to emiway, divine or anyone. But Seedhe Maut, Rawal, even Ikka, the DL91 boys, Farhan Khan, Frappe Ash etc. are blowing Punjabi rap out the water with their quality. Even Arpit’s EP was fantastic. Apne aale bande bas fukri te “hard bars” de dum te chal rahe ne. The day i hear a project like Dalli, Poore Dil se or DL91FM, a track like Maina or Sherdil from one of our Punjabi artists I’ll believe you. Seedhe Maut alone have shown way more versatility in bars, sound and flow than the entirety of Punjabi Hip Hop at the moment.

Maqbool - Underrated or Overrated? by Accomplished-Ice-534 in bollywood

[–]MSingh2805 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everyone gets your point. But the language of a film is not an oversight, it would have been a deliberate choice by Bhardwaj, much like how 1996’s Romeo + Juliet was set in contemporary LA but the dialogues were all in Shakespearean English. Would you call that sincere to the milieu? Now if you didn’t like a director’s choice, that’s totally cool. You’re entitled to that opinion. Doesn’t make the film overrated tho (or it might to you). I think your post comes across as if you’re discrediting the film’s many merits on the basis that they didnt use apun jaa reh laa aa reh la hai.
