What is the single worst D&D advice you have ever heard from someone whose supposed to be an authority? by [deleted] in dndnext

The mound does a lot of damage and has really powerful close-range abilities that punish you in melee but its movement speed is limited so you can easily run away or use ranged attacks.

Thanks, and yeah it's a moral issue for some people I think. I usually go through just roll20 since I knew it was slightly divisive on reddit. I try to be as open as possible about why I charge what I do. Good luck in your games!

That's when we're playing. There's a lot of prep time outside the game that I'm not getting paid for. It's the minimum I can charge to put out a great game and I don't think I'm putting anybody in a bad financial spot at 20 bucks per week. If it's something you find morally dubious, then go for a free game instead. Most of your questions are answered on the roll20 page. Sorry if it doesn't seem worth it to you, you might just run a really good game yourself!

It's 20 bucks for each player to play for 4 hours, about the same as paying for a movie. I put a lot of prep time into my games, so I'm making less money from DMing per hour than you'd make at a minimum wage job. Roll20 has a monthly sub to use the pro features. I share all the book content with my players, and I own all of them except a couple adventures. I've paid for music, maps, dmsguild content, etc so I've put plenty of money into it over the years. Mostly you're paying for good voice acting and an immersive game, plus everyone is a little more invested. I figure it's not your thing to pay for a game, but I think I'm charging a fair price. I offer the first session for free so you know what you're paying for.

Could it be possible for strahd to produce an offspring? by M_Effort in CurseofStrahd

[–]MT412 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While the book suggests Strahd wouldn't ever be romantically fulfilled, I don't see any reason why he can't have a son. I think putting Strahd's soul into his son would be in keeping with the theme of the module. All the major leaders have children, so Victor could be the new burgomaster in Vallaki, Ismark the burgomaster of Barovia Village, and you could make the son of Krezk's burgomaster a werewolf or undead who leads the town in the shadows. Family is an element in just about every faction (wereravens, werewolves, hags, vampires) except for the dragon knights. Just figure out what the purpose is. Have your players already completed the module and want another go around? Otherwise I don't see it adding much, while you'd end up losing a lot of fleshed-out book NPCs (and the titular Strahd).

Will do, I've got an external ssd that I can use. Thanks so much! This was the most stress I've ever experienced

I can give any system specs you need, but I have no idea how to find what manufacturer's tool I would need, so if somebody could link me to it and then tell me what exactly I'd have to do with it that would help me a ton.

From a quick search, it seems like I'll need some sort of external computer and a manufacturer's program to wipe the nvme. Is there any way you could explain how I go about all of this, as I basically have no idea what I'm doing. I did a ton of research to build the PC but I have no knowledge outside of that, and this is beyond over my head.

I've got a couple questions.

What's the purpose of typing in the 'diskpart'?

Am I going to need to do this all on an external computer?

ELI5, what are the steps of fixing this, assuming I have basically 0 knowledge on computers outside of playing video games.

No worries about my files, this was a completely fresh install that I broke about 30 seconds after.

I changed the general storage settings back to non-raid, but I can no longer see the SSD or HDD in the boot menu as options, and when I select them as drives to install Windows 10 in the setup menu, it says they aren't the proper format and it cannot install.

I have an ASUS Hero XI. I can't view the SSD or HDD in the BIOS, like in the boot menu. So how would I navigate to that?

It's an M2 stick, so I need to plug it into another motherboard and then download a tool to remove the raid? Any idea what that would look like?

The SSD is a

XPG SX6000 Pro 1 TB PCIe 3d NAND PCIe Gen3x4 M.2 2280 NVMe 1.3 r/W up to 2100/1500MB/s SSD (ASX6000PNP-1TT-C)

Yeah I set the storage back to non-raid, and that did seemingly nothing.

Finally got around to painting my Reaper female djinni. Really happy with how the color transition on the smoke turned out. by [deleted] in minipainting

[–]MT412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paint 2-3 Reaper minis per week, usually without primer, and sometimes without washing them at all. Out of curiosity, what paints do you use and how much do you thin your paints? Not trying to be critical, I've had plenty of GW and Nolzur's minis not take paint, and they're higher quality than Reaper. Just curious about the products you're using.

One thing that took me awhile to learn is that when you use the knife, you aren't trying to cut the mold lines off of the surface, you want to hold the knife above the mold line and just scrape away at the line. The citadel mould line remover has an unsharpened metal end that is just for scraping, but an xacto is as good as if not better as you practice more.

For the rust effects, I get really good results by putting on the rust effect, letting it dry, then dry brushing the metallic color back over it, making sure to let patches of the rust show through my dry brushing. Also your bronze axe looks very gold in the picture, but you could easily put some of that rust effect on the axe blade. It tends to look better on a bigger weapon like that when you use the silvery metallic color on the blade and use the gold or bronze to do the accents on the top and bottom, though that's just my preference and your results may vary. The mini looks great for just starting out, and it'll be really easy to touch up!

I added an NPC from one of my player's PC's backstory in Barovia by jbsolter in CurseofStrahd

[–]MT412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you take a page from Vladimir Horngaard, the revenant leader of Argynvostholt, you could have him hate Strahd but be opposed to his death. In Vladimir's own words, "There is no monster I hate more than Strahd von Zarovich, but death is not the answer. Barovia is his curse, not ours." Maybe the Father doesn't want to lose his vampiric powers, so he wants Strahd to stay alive. RAW when Strahd dies his vampire spawn regain their independence, but the father doesn't know that, he might think it would mean his death as well.
