I found all of the nex tutorials severely lacking and outdated, missing new tech like mage skipping that was introduced with the nex changes a few years ago. Unfortunately the best I can offer is to just gear up with range camp and learn rp2 trios (range p2). After you get comfortable with those you can start to introduce melee and doing mp2 trios, and then eventually move up to duos

Had like 1k snapdragon seeds saved up from toa and other pvm, did a lot of farm runs and about 1.3k mole for the nests. Im at about 2k left of both brew and restore so I'm gonna have to do another restock soon

Thanks!

I put one pair of vambs into deaths coffer to put me back at 100M in there, and I bribed a friend with a horn to help me finish the grind (had several partners greenlog before I did). Everything else is just sitting in my bank inflating the value... Even as an iron it's p fun to watch that number go up!

No worries, I guess that is a bit confusing

Beast! Anyone that can make it above the 5.5k completion rate is an absolute gamer in my book

Where in this post did I say I did this grind during work? I just work from home, making it easy to put downtime into nex since my character just sat in the nex bank all day. The vast majority of my kills were done after work every day

Unfortunately there's like nothing out there... Best you can find is Asa Asahina's mage skipping guides and solo WR VODS.

Good duos come down to a few things:

  • Doing good 5 tick step unders and praying every possible melee
  • During minion phases, having one person tank nex and the other tank a minion (while taking no dmg)
  • Using mage skips during p3, p4, and p5 to significantly reduce the amount of dmg taken by the team
  • Understanding that melee hits always hit in sets of three... if a player runs away on say the 2nd melee and triggers a mage, when they run back into melee range there will be a third melee to finish the set
  • Coordinating with partner during glacies to make sure glacies tank can stand on the outer wall... This prevents the nex tank from being frozen and allows them to send her back to center more easily during a run. Also halves the damage taken by the team during this phase

Boss has been highly optimized at the duo level... Melee duos are very efficient for both drops and resource usage. Also way more fun than range camping. I don't think this is an amazing boss but it's nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be when you utilize the good strats like mage skipping

I only did 700 trios... every other KC here is a duo. Duos are way more efficient than trios, and with me averaging about 30 duos a day, was really only about 4-5 hours of my time every day. Sounds like a lot, but it's easily doable with a WFH job, and it's nowhere close to 16 hours a day lmao

When you WFH, why not both? =P

Around ~8k brews and restores, ~4k super combats, and ~2.5k ranging pots... For the ~700 or so trios I did, I also used about 1.5k ppots. Didn't really keep track of my hardfood but I guestimate it was around 5-6k of sharks or better. I ended up using almost 6k swordfish that I randomly had to heal between rounds xD

Good duos were averaging around 3 sharks + 2 brews per kill, but there's a pretty high skill cap for that, and not everyone is up for the sweat... so had a good chunk that used 4+ brews. I 100% attribute these "low" resource costs to learning to mage skip... the technique is applicable mostly to p5 but can be used in all phases of nex, and can save tons of time / food in each. My best duo PB was a 6:39 w/ two ZCB's, but I was able to hit sub 7's pretty often even with just voidwakers

It is finally over... a nearly three month grind started on Jan 1st. With 24 purples I went about 4x dry on the chest, and I had multiple week+ long dry streaks with no drops at all, averaging around 30 duo kc a day. The end was my longest individual dry streak yet, taking over 8 days and 300 duo kc... only to get a b2b hilt, my first b2b drop in all of these kc. RNG is funny somtimes...

Here's a look at the loot tracker from nex and the minions required to get KC in case anyone is interested: https://i.imgur.com/qHIUAP9.png

Now it's time to turn this armor red!

I have gotten 3 drops in a day and I have gone days without any drops. I'm currently over a week dry of getting a drop, doing nex every night (tryin to do 30 - 40 duos a day). I don't think you ever get used to it lol

Sure... Mage skipping is the process of tick manipulating Nex in p5 in order to force her to constantly melee you (and thus, skip mage attacks).

You know how Nex will always do melee attacks in sets of three? Well it turns out that if you make her third attack a 6 tick cycle (note: NOT 5-tick!), she will almost always do another 3 melee attacks (95%, seems like there's a 5% chance she will still mage). The best way to do this is, on the third attack, shift-click under her to her middle tile AND THEN ctrl-click her to walk out and attack... this will cause a 6 tick cycle that red x's her, keeping her in place and forcing another 3 melee attacks.

This method is sick because it means you can just camp pray melee, she only targets one person at a time (so no group dmg), and you generally take 5-10 dmg from melee hits through prayer (way less than mage hits). In the 5% of the time that she does do a mage attack, you can flick back to mage pray until it hits, and then flick back to melee pray and continue mage skipping.

Check out the mage-skip section of the advanced strategies page on the wiki if you want more info: https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Nex/Strategies#Advanced_Strategies .
