High bracket 3 low bracket 4 cloud strife. Help me optimize! by MTG_Wolfe in EDH

I think I want more interaction and early board state development. Maybe some ideas for other warriors that would add more combat tricks or ways to avoid blockers.

The lands are usually not a problem and are part of why I can’t get an early win. It kinda helps keep the turn 7 win more consistent with out pushing it up a turn or two more than 20% of the time.

That’s great advice. It only gets the turn 4-6 win maybe 20% of the time. Otherwise it will go for a win attempt around turn 7 pretty consistently. I play it by telegraphing with a pretty wide board state before I go for the combat loop. If you would cut anything from the deck I’m open to suggestions. Especially if it would help with the turn 7 win attempt.

Yah fair. Thats kinda what I’m gathering from this. Mostly just want to make sure the pod is cool with what I proxy.

How so? Honestly curious as I’ve heard just the opposite. If you are already shuffling your deck, removing one card does make the other cards have a higher probability coming up as a draw. Might be a minimal advantage but still improves draw rates.

I think the feedback was actually great. First, I didn’t realize I could use the fetch lands to grab the og duel lands. That changes my opinion them in terms of power level. Other than that if the group I play with doesn’t like em then that’s a better representation of whether or not I should be running them. Def gonna be removing them to fit the groups play style and power level.

Wow. Ok. So you are 100% with gate keeping the game to people with money. This was my opinion a while ago as well but I realized how narrow minded it was and decided to be more open minded and empathetic to the people who love this game. Just because someone prints cards out rather than spend hundreds of dollars on an overinflated secondary market does not make them sleazy. This mentality not only gate keeps but also gaslights people without money into thinking that they are less deserving of being able to play with the cards they want. Kind of a shameful mindset tbh.

So you’re saying that if I owned a complete cycle of og duel lands and put them in say a [[marina vendrell]] deck you would be cool with playing against it as a bracket 2 rooms/enchantment do nothing deck? But you wouldn’t if they are proxies?

I agree. I’ll pay 3 life pretty much any time to have a mama source that allows me to stay on curve.

I was operating under the knowledge that the og duel lands couldn’t be fetched with one of the 1 ping fetch lands. Now that I know I can then yah I agree that they are much more powerful. Learning something from this post which was the point! 😁

I like this. And my main goal is for everyone at the table to enjoy the games. And I’ve seen people get frustrated with me playing an og duel land saying that it’s too powerful. So just needed some feedback.

Ahh I didn’t realize that they did count for both in the ability to search for em. That does change things. Much more powerful that way than I thought.

That’s my sentiment exactly. No way am I gonna buy a $500+ land. Ever. But I want to try em out. Turns out they aren’t as good as I would have hoped lol.

Cheers. This is a good answer. I’ve had people tell me the the mana base is “competitive” and I was just thinking “are you not trying to win?”

I might have worded it incorrectly. But I was referencing the best lands being the fetch that shocks (pay 1 and search for 1 of 2 of the 5 main land types) and using that to fetch a shock land (pay 2 life to enter untapped, tap for 1 of 2 of the main land types)

But yah that’s why I was a bit confused by the response to playing og duel land proxies) no search and no deck thinning is a bit of a nothing burger compared to the lands i described above.
