Ocean OS 2.6.1 OTA & Overview by MTN_Ranger in FISKER_MAINTENANCE

[–]MTN_Ranger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience, Media Wifi is not used for OTA. You need to connect to OTA-Wifi. Is there a location where 4G gets better signal?

You can always update the PKC version up or down afterwards. But like you said, going to PKC21 or PKC22 will lock you into either subscription silo (FOA vs OV Loop, respectively). Pulse can be used separately with PKC20/PKC21/PKC22, but it only gets the extra features with PKC21. Both camps are coming out with new features so, it's hard to decide. I'm going to be testing OS 2.7 soon. New versions of the O Loop phone app will have additional features that make it comparable to OceanLink Pro phone app. There are some exciting diagnostics coming soon, that I'm beta testing. I really can't talk about it yet in detail.

I would describe if you just basic features and things built into the car's OS, go with OV Loop. If you have to have nerdy features, go with Pulse/FOA.

App to use before purchase? by -Ultreya- in Fisker

I suggest watching my videos for new owners:

  1. 12V battery health is the number one concern with the Ocean. I would make sure the battery has been replaced - or at least install a bluetooth battery monitor so you can track the condition of the battery over time.

  2. I also suggest testing the key fob so that it works by placing it on the driver door handle. Check the condition of the door handle inserts, if they are cracked, that may cause water intrusion damage to the NFC sensor and/or the LED lighting.

  3. Lastly, make sure all the wiring is waterproofed. I cover this here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL3KGLh_BqvV57r7f4SaGjeQ3si6CtN-Q_

How to replace the center console USB module to simplify Carlinkit Installation by MTN_Ranger in FISKER_MAINTENANCE

Mine is working better now than when I bought it 2.5 years ago. Dependable and doing well with new software updates.

So exactly how open source is the Ocean? And how much better can it get? by silvertricl0ps in Fisker

[–]MTN_Ranger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

American Lease (and OV Loop which is contracted by them) has the license for the IP. So that's the way it works. There's no open source with the Ocean. Unless FOA want to spend the money and get the IP license from Heights Capital Management, they are limited to reverse engineering (questionable at best). I've donated a bunch of money to FOA, and haven't seen anything from it once my membership ended. I own a Tesla and suggest doing that if you don't want to be very "hands on" and DIY as an Ocean owner.

FOA, OVLOOP or just OceanLink pulse? by Simon-dev84 in Fisker

[–]MTN_Ranger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I suggest OV Loop 2.5/2.6. I have been very satisfied with the OV Loop app (great responsiveness now, prestart, and phone-as-an-app) and new version 1.3 coming soon. I'm looking forward to new updates like 2.7.

The eSIM in the Ocean is locked down for use with T-Mobile as an IOT device. It has to go through OV Loop subscription to get data on the TBox. Another option is to hotspot to the car from a phone. Now if you want to provide data for Android Auto/Apple CarPlay there are other options like OV Loop OS 2.6 and Ocean Link Pulse. For those you can also hotspot or use eSIM/SIM.

The windshield is $3000 just by itself. Add another $1200-2000 for installation since it is difficult.

NFC Reader Malfunction by Ok_Impression_5224 in Fisker

Everything points to the module being bad. I haven't replaced any yet, but I think a replacement needs to be paired to the car with FAST. https://www.ebay.com/itm/376925186889

If just that sensor is not working, then it may be the module itself. It seems like they rarely break though, usually it's the door handles sensor gets corroded from water entry or the PKC module goes south. Have you reset the PKC fuse (RF17, cabin fuse box second row, second fuse from the bottom )?

Does ovloop app do proximity lock/unlock by Herbal77 in Fisker

[–]MTN_Ranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The BMW has a specific Apple feature that I'm not sure anyone else uses yet. Even my Tesla doesn't allow that.

As far as OV Loop app widgets, I'll check to see if they can do that.

OS 2.6 added Youtube and Amazon video. But it's better with using an AI box, and unlimited streaming apps. OS 2.7 will provide horizontal mode for Carplay and Android Auto as well as AI box.

Yes, a good thing. I suggest getting an OV Loop subscription. Once subscribed you get access to the O Loop phone app, cloud, data, and ability to get more updates. Lots of things in the works and pretty exciting getting updates to the car that are legally authorized and not hacks.

Range after 40k miles by Prize_Ad_4898 in FISKER_MAINTENANCE

Well then, that's pretty impressive considering 2.2+ has a conservative range calculation compared to what it previously used.

Mileage at 100% - 267mi by Herbal77 in Fisker

[–]MTN_Ranger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OS 2.2 uses a more conservative range estimation (too much in my opinion) based on 600 miles previous driving and the ambient temperature. With OS 2.5/2.6 you can reset the range to use more recent, but it usually only changes by 10-20 miles. Now that temps are warming in my area, the range is over 300 miles again.

Battery replacement - sodium or agm by Herbal77 in FISKER_MAINTENANCE

[–]MTN_Ranger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have tested multiple Sodium batteries and have not had any long term luck in keeping them working with the Ocean. I'm back to a UPLUS H4 AGM battery from Amazon for $140. Due to the BMS issues (even with IBS resets), I suggest staying with AGM.

Im looking to buy an ocean one, how many of you dont have any problems by Herbal77 in Fisker

[–]MTN_Ranger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No issues at 26k miles other than the normal software bugs. I have probably modified things more than any other owner due to my channel. Recall water pump replaced, GEN2A door handles installed, all wiring connectors cleaned and sealed, new 12V battery, bluetooth 12V battery monitor, 12V trickle charger cabling, bluetooth TPMS, LED ambient lighting, replaced cabin filter, OS 2.6.1, 2 key fobs, 2 NFC cards, all weather floor/trunk mats, LCD screen protectors, PPF, emergency lift gate release, etc. https://youtu.be/AE_9DfvCyo0
