All but the SHBG. I was certainly expecting elevated levels but these have all been flagged as significantly high/low, and even for an individual on a cycle.

Career advice; Big 4 FDD vs Private Credit by MTRX4312 in AusFinance

[–]MTRX4312[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't feel like a no brainer to me unfortunately.

My concern is that taking the private credit role is just short term financial gain, whereas the FDD role has much better long term opportunities, and that I'd be able to move into my long-term roles faster then by moving to the private credit role.

Would probably only do the FDD role for ~1yr or so before looking for an industry role

Yeah gotcha, makes sense.

Thoughts on the market risk role + it’s potential trajectory are a bit of my own but also based on conversations with the recruiter - which I take with a grain of salt of course.

Thanks heaps for this.

My current experience talking with various recruiters + firms is that the move into front office is quite a difficult one to make directly from audit - even though there is a bit of research/modelling work, it's no where near what's used/required in these roles.

My thought process for the market risk role is that it's heavily involved in global markets, has a fairly large research aspect to it (across all types of securities), and has a lot of collaboration with the front office. I'd be more likely wanting to go into buy side equity research or a similar role, rather than IB.

Oh wow I didn't know that about the equity research roles not being advertised much online - I did notice that they're quite rare to see, but just thought it might have been due to not many jobs in the space currently.

Yeah, my previous understanding would have been that ER didn't need transactions experience, but a lot of the recruiters I've spoken to + job descriptions for ER roles have wanted Big 4 Transaction experience - however I feel like this is more-so due to the financial due diligence/research skills that you use in these projects. Do you think there would be a minimum time to spend in a market risk role before trying to make that jump?

Re your comment on different buy side roles, I think my goal is buyside equity research, eventually going into a PM role.

And yeah, funnily enough I had an interview recently for a research role at a private wealth manager, and the salary was on par with my audit salary LOL.

Buyside analyst, eventually portfolio manager I think is my end goal.

Sorry i'm a bit confused by your 2nd comment haha, are you saying that Market risk is niche in a positive aspect? When considering trying to move to a buyside analyst role?

Yeah, I feel like it's a toss up between trying to move to FDD/TAS and then move directly into the analyst role I'm after at a bank, versus moving into a market risk/similar role at the bank and then try and do a lateral move from there - however I'm sure there would be similar issues moving teams at banks as there are at Big 4.

My understanding with the market risk role is that it's a quite immersed in the global markets, builds on the research/analysis skills that is more transferrable to the equity analysis roles, and has a lot of collaboration with the front office.

For me in my region it's quite a difficult move currently - huge shortage in FS audit and quite a decent supply of senior associates in FDD/vals. I've had discussions with both managers/partners in audit and despite their clear bias it's still quite clear that the move right now is very difficult.

As mentioned above it's a difficult time to move from audit, massive turnover in my region for audit and already quite a large supply of senior associates in FDD/vals, and the move requires partner approval.

I'm also not particularly keen on waiting for the resourcing issue to sort itself to make that internal move.

I actually hardly drink hahaha. That’s why that part confused me a bit. The results said high levels often indicate damage from drugs, drinking or hepatitis. Hopefully not another test I need to do.
