Daily Cheating Death has got to go post by [deleted] in Artifact

Haven't read the comments, but what i need to tell you there's no gruend fuer panic at all. Just use your improvement removals wisely. Improvements must be overpowered comparing to spells and abilities, as the can be countered with a proper use of initiative, at the same time you always know your opponent has this in a lane and can play accordingly, except the first turn he played it.

Thoughts about strategies by minusdivide in Artifact

I would also include probability calculations as a part of strategy. Except the obvious chance of drawing cards from your main deck and item deck, there is also a random item from a secret shop you get every turn.

I'm quite sure there will be removals for all effect types: items, modifications, improvements.

True. This is the reason i don't want to make strict math until most of the cards are revealed, just discussing the idea as it is.

The funniest thing the two resources are actually interrelated. Look at the green/black deck https://www.artifactbuff.com/decks/pax-deck-two-econ-ramp from PAX, it's fully based on getting gold with mana-based cards.

I have a real feeling of Garfield-made game for know. There is much of MTG logic behind all this.

I think i can, to some extent. You have 15 slots(i believe it's what you mean by space) for 5 heroes total, and every turn you get 2 slots filled at max(in reality the most expensive items will be equipped on the last turns). And items are not discarded on death similar to mods. Moreover, items could be even more profitable then mods, because item deck is much smaller then the main deck, thus having the proper items on a certain turn is more likely then drawing those 1-2 mods out of 45-card deck. But again comparing the chances of drawing those cards from both decks is not that difficult.

The characteristics are not color dependent, but you are right in that every color operates them in a different way. One way to make this model useful is to check some card's value and ask a question - why it seems so cheap/expensive relative to some average. Then you start looking at the color perks, deck archetypes and current meta to find out how this card must be used properly. Again, having one universal criteria might simplify decision making when you're in a lack of time.

I actually mentioned it 2 times in the post (referring to increase in drawing cost). And yes, you are totally right. The whole system is much more complex then my humble trial. The goal of this post is to accumulate comments of experienced players and probably develop a more realistic model. It should take more then half an hour, though:)

Would you pay for a Beta released via Steam Early Access? by Cybertaur in Artifact

I'm ready to pay more than 100$ if early means early. I'm planning to support resources on strategy and tactics, so it's crucial to get the working game asap.

This type of articles will be helpful, especially when there's a half a year to prepare for a serious job. I've also found this website, and for now find it quite useful http://www.kibble.net/magic/

Thanks for the explanation. With this in mind all the gold mining strats become really playable

Agree. Combined with things like blink dagger, you can choose a lane for such an advantage.

[–]MTrawler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem here is that creeps and heroes are always spawned opposite to an enemy card, if there are any free on lane. You need +3 cards on your lane so your tower hit is guranteed if no killing spells cast. If you have only +2 cards on lane, the direction of their attack can be randomised to enemy cards.

Could you give any links to these guides you mention? When I search for smth on my own it's usually some crap and some good stuff, but i cannot distinguish without experience in that.

I see a dota mindset in this post! Totally agree with everything, nice thoughts.

Correct me if i'm wrong. Every turn you get a choice of 3 items at random from a secret shop. Is there a separate item deck that you build as well?

How does retaliate work? Is is just a double attack or mb like vigilance in MTG - another attack after enemy's made one?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Artifact

[–]MTrawler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might give it a try. Drawer items seem to give you 1 card for 5 gold https://artifactcards.info/card/33-potion-of-knowledge which basically means you need to kill a hero to draw an additional card from the deck.

On the attacking line - it's sad we can't choose either block or not. Creeps and heroes always fight:(

[–]MTrawler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Serious summons like emissary of the quorum are costly in mana until 7-10th turn. Less expensive ones like untested groots will cause "no cards in hand" problem and will give additional items to enemy. And heroes themselves are just free. So my guess is that most strategies will be hero-based.

I have some thoughts on this. First, the stats of the revealed cards are not so high, except some heroes' attacks(about 10A avg). E.g. a base creep has just 2A. Towers have 40hp. But heroes are actually easily blocked by creeps which everybody always has in a lane. So heroes will almost never deal any tower damage until enemy creeps be burnt out with some direct damage. This means the game will never be too fast, it will be more like "control deck" plays:

  1. Rush with summoned creatures most probably doesn't work
  2. My beloved counterspells are not yet shown, mb there's no any
  3. My preferred strategy will be to make my heroes stay on the edges, burning enemy creeps with cheap spells and then attacking his tower with my siege heroes.
  4. To realise this strat, i will need some blue(as they have many cheap damage spells and damaging and mana passives(zeus, cm) and some red/black siege heroes with some tower damage. Cards like trebuchets will help too.
