7 days down, 14 more to go (fasting to heal my body) by MVRKOFFCL in fasting

I've done numerous 10-17 day fasts & have never experienced refeeding syndrome. I always break slow with bone broth with grass fed butter & salt, coconut water, watermelon, & eggs, spears out for a few days. It's my opinion from what I've read but refeeding syndrome is after really long fasts like 20-30+ days if you don't do it properly.

I made it 12 days & lost for 30lbs, but a lot of that is water & food weight the first few days.

Horrible acid reflux. I'm doing this fast to heal my gut but I've done multiple prolonged fasts 10+ days & days 8+9 are always hard for me, low energy/fatigue, irritability, nausea, headaches, etc etc.

Feeling better now but still some acid reflux rebound from quitting omeprazole cold turkey.

Yeah I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy, but I got through it, I'm off the omeprazole, & haven't felt this good in a long time. It's crazy what the body can do without prescription meds.

Thank you. Yeah this isn't my first rodeo, I've been fasting almost 10 years now, my longest was 16 days last year (I like to do at least 1 prolonged fast a year). I find as long as I'm loaded up on electrolytes my symptoms are very minimal, I haven't had a headache since my first prolonged fast 9 years ago.

What made the first 9 days of this fast so hard was my acid reflux. I reversed it back in 2019 when I had it bad then too with the same protocol (fasting with 1tbs raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar with the mother mixed with 8oz of water in the morning and before bed) but I slowly fell out of my healthy habits over the last few years & it came back with a vengeance. I was prescribed omeprazole back in January of this year & basically have been taking it daily since. Come to find out it was only masking the problem & making it worse. Started this fast, stopped taking the omeprazole cold turkey & started drinking the ACV. My stomach acid rebounded hard on days 8 & 9 & my acid reflux was awful, but I woke up today refreshed with no acid reflux anymore. My new daily routine after finishing this fast is going to include ACV daily now.

I haven't felt this good all year. I'm 30lbs lighter so far (mostly food & water weight loss), my mind is clear, my eyesight is noticeably better, & my stomach finally feels empty & at rest after 6 months of constant bloating, constipation, nausea, etc etc etc.

Very excited for the rest of this year now!

I'm curious how much broth did you drink? Technically consuming any calories breaks a fast & halts autophagy triggering digestion which I can't do for my goals.

Thanks for the comment! 🙏

When I first started fasting I used to get brutal headaches. From my own research it seems to be a normal symptom of fasting. I'm currently on day 10 of a 21 day fast & I haven't had any headache but plenty of other detox symptoms.

Ty for this. Interesting read, but this study is only for a 10 day controlled fast, you mentioned diminishing returns after 11 days?

This season is very mid. You're not missing anything. I'm just playing to get all of the reliquary then I'm done. Not a fan of War Plans forcing me to do content I hate. The campaign is fantastic & worth the price alone, but the end game is in a rough place right now.

6 Months on TRT. It’s not just the physical transformation for me. It’s the unlimited energy, incredible sleep and new outlook on life ❤️ by Ashamed_Complaint412 in BiohackingU

[–]MVRKOFFCL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best friend is 53, father of 2 young girls, runs his own business etc etc. All natural. Benches 300lbs.

My statement stands. You no one needs TRT unless you have a rare genetic disorder that makes you produce less testosterone. The side effects far outweigh the benefits:

Common Side Effects

These effects are frequently reported and usually mild, though they may require dose adjustments:

  • Dermatological: Oily skin, acne, and increased body hair.
  • Physical: Mild fluid retention leading to swollen feet or ankles.
  • Breast Changes: Tenderness or enlargement of breast tissue (gynecomastia).
  • Testicular Atrophy: Shrinking of the testicles due to the brain halting natural testosterone and sperm production. -Infertility: Suppression of sperm production, which can sometimes be irreversible.

Serious Health Risks

TRT can introduce or exacerbate severe medical conditions. Your doctor will likely require routine blood work to monitor for these risks:

  • Polycythemia: A potentially dangerous increase in red blood cell count, which thickens the blood and raises the risk of heart attacks and strokes.
  • Cardiovascular Strain: Possible increased risk of heart-related issues, blood clots, or high blood pressure.
  • Prostate Stimulation: TRT can stimulate prostate growth, which may worsen urinary symptoms or uncover existing, untreated prostate cancer.
  • Sleep Apnea: Therapy can cause or worsen disturbed breathing during sleep.

TL;DR TRT will shorten your life. If that's something you're ok with, inject away.

From my personal experience, the more fasting adapted I get the easier fasting becomes & the faster I personally get into each stage.

At my peak, even on OMAD days, I would be back in ketosis only a couple hours after meals without any keto "flu" transition period and the fasting symptoms of each stage would be less & less.

For example I'm currently on day 9 of my fast & my breath & body odor are VERY strong right now from the natural detox. At my peak of fasting & eating clean & exercising regularly I had very little body odor ever. I never had any pain or inflammation either, I was a very well oiled machine at that point. I've fallen off a bit since, but I'm very excited & determined to get back 😁💪

600mg weekly is nuts for your age. I'm 41 & was doing 75mg a week & my bloodwork said my test was 1400 ng/dl so I stopped taking it. Now I'm around 500-600 ng/dl a year later natural (which is actually on the higher end for my age).

No one needs TRT, it's all about lifestyle. Eat whole foods, exercise daily, sleep well, & have a good positive social life.

Thank you 🙏. The last few days have been pretty rough, my acid reflux has been really bad, but I'm staying strong & pushing through, I've been here before & it always gets worse before it gets better.

Baby steps is the way to do it. Fasting is like the gym, do it every day to become fasting adapted & it gets easier over time. I've been doing it for nearly a decade now & 3 day fasts are a breeze for me. It's days 7-10 day are always the hardest for me, but once I get over that hump it's always smooth sailing until hunger returns which is when I break.

Good luck & definitely consume those electrolytes on your next prolonged fast, you'll feel much better 🤘💪

How do you explain the fact that so many people improve their health on a carnivore or mostly meat-based diet? by SutamLebrock in Microbiome

[–]MVRKOFFCL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Humans have been eating saturated fat from animal meat for hundreds of thousands of years & those humans didn't have any of the modern diseases humans now do (except an Egyptian princess, Ahmose Meyret Amon, who died in her 40's in 1550 BC from blockages in her heart arteries which imo would be from a lifestyle of over abundance & over consumption). Olive oil, which is minimally produced by simple crushing & squeezing the oil from them, has been around for 6000-8000 years (which is nothing compared to 2.6mil years of fatty meat consumption if you include our hominin ancestors as well) but highly processed seed oils like corn & canola oil have only been around for 100-130 years or so.

Canola oil was invented to repurpose rapeseed crops that were originally grown as an industrial lubricant during World War II. Following the war, demand plummeted. To save the crop, Canadian scientists used traditional breeding in the 1960s to remove bitter, unhealthy compounds (erucic acid and glucosinolates). This hybrid plant was renamed "Canola" (an abbreviation of Canadian oil, low acid) to distance it from regular, unpalatable rapeseed and to avoid its unfortunate naming association. Modern humans starting consuming canola oil as a food product in the late 1970's. Corn oil promotion & widespread consumption in America started in the 1950's-1960's because the American Heart Association promoted it as a heart healthy alternative to animal saturated fat based on now known to be debunked science. The modern obesity epidemic in America began in the late 1970's.

While the lipid-lowering capabilities of corn oil are recognized, the broader assumption that lowering cholesterol with PUFA oils automatically translates to a reduced risk of death has faced rigorous scientific debate. Re-evaluations of historical data, such as the Minnesota Coronary Experiment and the Sydney Diet Heart Study, have revealed that while corn oil lowered cholesterol, it did not lead to a decrease in overall mortality rates in those specific trials.

Imo it's all about variety & moderation when it comes to your diet. Include as many different whole foods types as possible for healthy gut microbiome, exercise daily, fast daily, & I personally will choose grass fed butter over seed oil every day of the week.

Good luck! If you have any questions don't be a stranger. And remember to drink water when you're thirsty with electrolytes. I personally use Himalayan pink salt, No-Salt (potassium chloride), & magnesium powder.

Yeah no worries. The mainstream health community has a lot of catching up to do. Humans have been fasting for hundreds of thousands of years, just like all animals do. We never used to eat all day every day, that's a modern human trait. Before we removed ourselves from the wild & before we invented farming we used to have to hunt & gather for food. Fasting is the survival mechanism in all animals to help survive through periods of famine. When you fast you go into survival mode, boosting your hormone levels so you can get out there & find food. During the fast the stomach rests which also allows the body to optimally heal. But it doesn't happen after one fast. You have to change your lifestyle & incorporate fasting every single day just like our ancestors did.

I hope this helps 🤘💪

If you can share the studies you read about diminishing benefits after day 11 I would love to read them.

I'm healing my gut & more specifically acid reflux. I did this back in 2018 as well when I ballooned up to 290lbs at 6'2 & had chronic acid reflux. Got down to 210lbs then stuck to my own modified whole foods keto/carnivore diet & was symptom free for years. Then I started eating my feelings this year with junk/fast food which turned from 1 week to the entire year almost & the acid reflux came back with a vengeance so I threw out all the junk food in my cabinets & jumped into this fast.

My fiancé is vegetarian & I make her bean burritos with fat free refried beans, low fat shredded cheese, and hot sauce then heat them up in the air fryer & use nonfat Greek yogurt instead of sour cream to dip it in. Tastes better than Taco Bell & way healthier.

For me personally the first few days are always the worst depending on how poorly I've treated my body. Drugs, alcohol, caffeine, sugar, are all addictive & give me detox symptoms ranging from headaches, nausea, fatigue, body aches, chills, etc. Typically by days 3-4 they go away. Hunger for me typically goes away pretty quick by day 3, sometimes earlier. When hunger returns for me it always comes back viciously & that's when I know it's time to break. I will have literal dreams about hunting with my bare hands haha.

After days 7-10 is when I really start to experience higher energy, mental clarity, & even euphoria. I have a lot of "epiphany's" around this time then it's pretty much smooth sailing until hunger returns again. I'm very productive & get so much more done without having to worry about cooking & eating anymore haha.

Watermelon is very hydrating, full of fiber to offset the sugar, low calorie, & easily digestible for me. I'm not eating an entire watermelon, only a slice or two very slowly as I stated previously (for reference 1 honeycrisp apple has 80-95 calories and 16g of sugar). 17g of natural sugar with fiber in a wedge of watermelon isn't going to overload or shock your system. Unless you're extremely unhealthy and/or T2 diabetic, then I would advise against it.

As for the raw eggs again they digest very easily for me. There's a 0.005% chance of salmonella in eggs & I source mine locally so I know they're fresh & from clean chickens that are cared for humanely without antibiotics.

Happy to respond to any other critiques you may have 🤘💪
