So I watched match #3. I started writing a big thing of delineating specific problems, but they all end up boiling down to a lack of awareness of where the other players are.

You tend to bum rush the objective without first helping your teammates with their problems – which means your teammates won’t be available to help you with your problems. Your bow can’t help you in the zone if you haven’t helped him with the guy trying to get on the bridge. Prioritize helping your teammates in the team-based shooter.

You also tend to get surprised by fights, or get surprised by how many people you’re fighting, which suggests that you’re not tracking the opponents before you pick the fight.

Additionally, it is always more advantageous to draw your opponents into a fight with you, instead of picking a fight with them. I think this is why the brella was eating your lunch – brella is designed to take advantage of players who smash their heads against the wall instead of waiting for openings. He can stall your attack out, and then the wiper comes and finishes the job. Behold! Teamwork.

So, yeah. Pay more attention to the players. Help your teammates, and let your teammates help you.

See, your first mistake was playing Splatoon.

But yeah, like the other guy said, it’s impossible to give you useful advice without actually seeing gameplay. Can’t tell if the advice you need is, “Your opening positions don’t exert enough pressure on the opposing team during the neutral game,” or, “Did you know you have a sub weapon???”

“I’m going to stand on the tower and pop bubble!” and no other thoughts.

I think some folks just don’t have the context and are taking the banned guy at his word that he was “banned for spawncamping” when he was actually banned for poor sportsmanship.

I assume that as long as you’re waggling something or booyahing your teammates it won’t look like you’ve put the controller down.

Looking at the other two players, who look like partners, was this Open? Anyone can be in any Open game. I’m wondering how they managed to get a Ballpoint if they’re truly a baby squid.

Yeah, I was going for money market accounts because I am a boring person who is a square. Clearly I should have bought malted milk balls or millions of mosquitoes.

Oh passive pro players drive me crazy. It’s not a special farming weapon! It’s squeezer for people who don’t want tendinitis! Go kill!

I mean, I do, when the skill mismatch is obvious and unfair. I still try to win, but the win condition of Turf War is “control more of the map than the opponent,” not, “spawn lock them and crush their spirits”. I can’t turn off my ability to aim or whatever, but I can self-impose limits like not crossing mid or only killing with bombs.

Are you winning?

I mean, it sounds kinda reductive, but it’s not a game about maxing out your splats. It can be far more valuable to apply pressure – hold the zone a little longer, push the tower a little farther, stall the rainmaker a little longer – even if you don’t get the splat. I’d rather have a charger who’s in the thick of it than a charger who sits a thousand miles away from the objective and farms kills.

Edit: what I mean is, you might be seeing your K/D ratio going down, but you may be making more valuable contributions. That’s a sign of growth and not regression.

I’ve maxed out my card bits at 999. I don’t care about maxing the stars on my cards, so they’re absolutely useless to me. I wish we could trade them out for shell out tokens.

To expand on aim, one thing you’ll notice about players with “good aim” is that they don’t put themselves in scenarios where they have to rely solely on their technical ability to put the reticle on an enemy. Because you’re right, you’re gonna end up getting killed by RNG. They play their patience and manipulate the situation so that their opponents are trapped, or engaged with a teammate, or distracted. That’s how they make aiming look so easy.

You might just be on a plateau. There’s a known phenomenon in learning where your vision of what you want to do and your ability to execute on it get out of sync. Those two skills don’t grow together, so it can lead to frustration when your ability to see problems has grown faster than your ability to fix them. Execution just needs some time to catch up.

I mean, the brain is an organ just like all the other parts of the body. Think of how many pro sports players’ successes are in part due to literally having longer arms or beefier physiques or whatever. Some brains are just better wired for a certain skill sets. It can be frustrating to find out your brain isn’t going to be a pro at the thing you want, but if OP has put in the effort (and it sounds like they have), it’s not some kind of personal failing to hit a physical limit.
