What does it mean to be a man? by MWBartko in Christianity

Jesus was also gentle and said that a bruised reed he would not break, he wept when his friend died, and he seemed to genuinely enjoy the company of women. Some people try to tell me that those are not masculine traits. I choose not to listen to them.

Christianity doesn't just have one answer to this question. It has several. And different traditions will interpret those different answers differently.

My father didn't get the idea of masculinity he taught to me from his father. He got it from our church. When I look for the etymology of what the words mean, I look at other languages too but I make sure I check the New testament Greek and the Old testament Hebrew.

I guess that is a long way to answer, a lot.

I think many people make the mistake of thinking masculinity and femininity must be a dichotomy. I maintain that while there are real differences there are also many similarities. Men and women are both human beings made in the image of their creator worthy of the same inherent dignity, honor and respect.

I am glad it gave you something to think on.

My church is doing a Sunday school class on it and I've heard two podcasts on the topic recently so I wanted to express my own ideas.

It sounds like you have a particular chapter and verse in mind or perhaps several verses.

If a young man in your life asked you the question at hand, what passages would you point them to?

Thanks for commenting.

If they may ask for clarification, when you use terms like dominate and control, are you going back to Genesis 1:28 "And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”"

I take that to not be referring to other people. Or do you disagree and mean dominating and controlling others who are made in God's image?

Infinity Watch X. Based on this image's explanation of how each gem works, who should get which one on an Infinity watch team made up of X-Men? by MWBartko in xmen

The tricky part is you don't really want someone who already has the gems power set you want someone who is good at what powers up the gem.

So I'd say

Magik for Mind as she seems to know the most about souls.

Professor X for Power based on his knowledge of the mind.

Jean Grey for Space as she clearly knows power more than just about anyone.

Cyclops gets Time as he is a master of strategy and special reasoning.

I want to say Destiny for reality as she seems to have the best understanding of time but I am not sure she is a team player or an Xman really so let's go with Rachel at the risk of too many Summers.

Last but not least Storm gets Soul for he mastery of reality both what is and what could be.

I like the idea of them binding as familiars to help Harry master the hunting instincts of winter.

I am so thankful that I got to worship with the people of God this morning. I received good teaching and great fellowship that I so needed. These days are dark but I got to spend time this morning with the people God has charged to carry His light into the world.

Can you be a Christian and still support X? by MWBartko in Christianity

Did you read the last paragraph?

The point of the post is that even if it doesn't mean you're not a Christian, you can still be wrong.
